“This is not a final decision. This depends on how soon we will be

ZHOGHOVURD: EMPLOYEES OF ARTIK MATERNITY HOSPITAL HAVE NOT RECEIVED SALARIES FOR 2 MONTHS

11:29 11/02/2014 >> DAILY PRESS

Employees of the maternity hospital of the city of Artik applied to
Zhoghovurd daily yesterday, complaining that they have not received
salaries for about two months. Zhoghovurd’s correspondent inquired
about the reason from Artik Mayor Arsen Abrahamyan.

“I don’t have such information. I am well familiar with the financial
situation of the hospital, and I can say that they have no problems
with salary payment. There are perhaps some organizational problems.

The law allows the director to delay payment of the salaries for
January until February 20. If there were problems, I would know about
them,” the Mayor is quoted as saying by the newspaper.

Armenia’s Syunik Mining Industry May Endanger Local Forests

ARMENIA’S SYUNIK MINING INDUSTRY MAY ENDANGER LOCAL FORESTS

February 11, 2014 | 11:05

YEREVAN. – The mining industry in Syunik may endanger the local
forests, says the “Socioeconomic Development Program for Syunik Region
for 2014-2017,” which the Armenian Government approved on February 6,
“EcoLur” NGO reports.

“Syunik, which is relatively rich in forests, is in a contradictory
situation; rich and picturesque forests, on the one hand, and the
metallic mines and rich subsoil subject to mining, on the other hand,
which caused various environmental problems in the region, together
with positive socioeconomic consequences,” the program specifically
says.

But the program also proposes a solution: “…banning mining in forest,
or nearby territories, until the use of new and up-to-date technologies
by the coming generations.”

The total forest area of Syunik makes up 94,825 hectares, including
68,912 hectares of forests and 25,913 hectares of bushes.

Armenian Genocide Denial’s Criminalization In Europe Can Be Concrete

ARMENIAN GENOCIDE DENIAL’S CRIMINALIZATION IN EUROPE CAN BE CONCRETE STEP BY EU – ANALYST

February 11, 2014 | 14:24

YEREVAN. – The creation of a pan-European legislative base for the
criminalization of Armenian Genocide denial can be a concrete step
by the European Union (EU) toward the recognition of the genocide.

Turkologist Levon Hovsepyan stated the aforesaid at a press conference
on Tuesday.

Hovsepyan commented on German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s recent
statement that Turkey should confront its history.

“The Turkish media covered [Turkey PM Recep Tayyip] Erdogan’s visit
to Germany quite thoroughly. But [it was] only some time later [that],
Hurriyet [daily of Turkey] publicized that conversation between Merkel
and Erdogan.

“The processes both by Turkey and the international community are
getting active on the threshold of the centennial of the Armenian
Genocide,” the turkologist noted, in particular.

In Levon Hovsepyan’s words, precise actions need to be taken after
each statement. Otherwise, they become political declarations.

As reported earlier, Turkey’s Hurriyet daily publicized some details
from Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s meeting with German Chancellor
Angela Merkel, during his visit to Germany. According to the article,
in the lead up the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in
1915, Erdogan cautioned Germany to be careful with respect to the
Armenian issue. In response, the German Chancellor stated: “Germany
is a democratic country; we cannot interfere. Turkey must confront its
history. The Armenians in Armenia are in a difficult situation. Turkey
should open its border with Armenia.”
