YEREVAN. – Iravunk daily of Armenia writes: According to a reliable source, the ANC [Armenian National Congress party] is deeply offended by [PM] Nikol’s [Pashinyan] statement that the judges in the CC [Constitutional Court] are the lackey-fraudsters of [ex-Presidents] Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Robert Kocharyan, and Serzh Sargsyan.

The ANC has been deeply offended by putting [First President] Levon [Ter-Petrosyan] on the same plane as Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan, and though it has been announced that they will not express [views in this regard] until after the [forthcoming constitutional] referendum, other passions are boiling over at the backstage.

According to our source, Levon has clearly said to Nikol that such ingratitude will not be forgotten, and the time will come and unpleasant compromising materials will be made public about Nikol.

An incident took place during Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s campaign in Kapan today. While Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia, head of the YES campaign for the constitutional referendum Suren Papikyan was giving a speech, one of the citizens started screaming to have the right to ask the Prime Minister a question.

Nikol Pashinyan came down from the stage, approached the citizen and tried to calm the latter down. “I’m not here to disturb or start a fight. Somebody took the microphone from me. I’m a citizen deprived of freedom of speech,” the citizen said.

Seeing that the man isn’t calming down and can’t stop screaming, Nikol Pashinyan said he was sorry and had to go and give a speech and left.

On March 2, 1992, Armenia became a member-state of the United Nations, and the Republic’s first minister of foreign affairs (and later ACNIS founder) Raffi K. Hovannisian raised the nation’s tricolor standard in front of UN headquarters and delivered its first official address to the General Assembly.

This week, to mark that historic day, in lieu of editorial we provide a link to Public Television’s interview with Hovannisian on March 2, 2020.

Armenia is a landlocked country in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia. It is a small market with positive economic growth prospects. The structural reforms and sound macroeconomic policy in the country enable it to maintain low inflation and attract foreign investments.

The rise in purchasing power parity (PPP) of Armenian consumers has generated a positive impact on the consumption of consumer goods. Armenia’s annual household income per capita reached $ 1,516.748 in December 2018 from $ 1,453.618 in Dec 2017. Shoppers in Armenia spend almost $ 100 million monthly on consumer goods, primarily on food and food products. In addition, the demand for convenience goods has gained high traction in recent past. Rise in internet penetration, denser urban population, fast pace lifestyles, and challenging working hours are deepening the complexity of consumer lives. Consumers are constantly opting for products which provide efficiency and are time saving. These factors cumulatively generate a positive impact on the growth of consumer goods market in Armenia.
However, Armenia faces geopolitical issues with its neighboring countries. All the goods traded with Armenia have to pass through Georgia. During this process, high transport tariffs are levied, which ultimately increases the end price of the product. Hence, the presence of trade barriers cause hinderance in the growth of the Armenian consumer goods market.
