Ashot Manucharyan: "Who Cares Who The President Is?"

ASHOT MANUCHARYAN: “WHO CARES WHO THE PRESIDENT IS?”

05:47 pm | June 28, 2012 | Politics

“”Foreign gods” rule Armenia,” said Ashot Manucharyan during a press
conference today. According to him, all “foreign gods” have one name,
and that is money.

“We Armenians are “wandering in the deserts” because those “foreign
gods” want us to do that,” said the member of the “Karabakh” Committee.

According to him, the “foreign gods” are the political value systems
outside of Armenia, that is, the Russian or Anglo-American systems.

Manucharyan says the Russian “gods” have chosen Prosperous Armenia
Party (BHK) in Armenia and they will determine whether the BHK will
have a presidential candidate or not.

“The BHK will nominate its own candidate,” says Manucharyan.

For instance, Ashot Manucharyan sees Serzh Sargsyan and Levon
Ter-Petrosyan under the dominance of the Anglo-American “gods”.

“Nothing will really change in Armenia, if Serzh Sargsyan or anyone
else becomes president,” says Manucharyan.

Who are the “gods” that the Armenian people and the authorities must
follow? Manucharyan doesn’t prefer to mention names, but can say what
Serzh Sargsyan has to read to govern Armenia in a reasonable way.

“He has to listen to Komitas’s music and read Narekatsi’s books.”

Manucharyan also suggests that Serzh Sargsyan, who wants to become
president for the second time, read Christian books. “I have seen
Sargsyan in church on television. I can suggest he read Karen
Yervandyan’s book “Second Coming of Christ”.”

BAKU: Document ‘Metsamor NPP – Constant Threat For South Caucasus An

DOCUMENT ‘METSAMOR NPP – CONSTANT THREAT FOR SOUTH CAUCASUS AND EUROPE’ CIRCULATED IN PACE

Trend

Azerbaijan

The draft resolution “Metsamor nuclear power plant is a constant
threat for the South Caucasus and Europe”, prepared by a member of
Azerbaijani delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council
of Europe (PACE), Ganira Pashayeva, will be discussed at the Bureau
and in other structures of the Council of Europe.

The draft resolution has been signed by MPs of different countries,
and an official document, which will be discussed at the PACE Bureau,
is distributed during the structure’s session. Under the procedural
rules, the document must be signed by 20 MPs from the five member
countries. Further, the document shall be discussed at the PACE Bureau,
and then relevant decisions shall be made. The mentioned project was
signed by some 25 European deputies.

“The Metsamor NPP located in Armenia is one of the biggest threats to
the South Caucasus and the European region. An issue on an immediate
cessation of activity of the Metsamor NPP located in a seismically
active zone has been repeatedly raised at the Parliamentary Assembly.

If severe accident happens at the NPP, the Azerbaijani authorities
will have less than a day for evacuation of population from the
danger zone. Such an accident may destroy all life in most parts of
the South Caucasus. Last year, Armenia has once again rejected the EU
proposal to close the Metsamor nuclear power plant in exchange for
the allocation of $ 100 million to cover its energy needs. Yerevan
reopened in 1995the NPP built in 1974,” the draft resolution reads.

The draft resolution stresses that Metsamor NPP, which is located at a
distance of 16 kilometers from Turkey, 60 kilometers from Iran and 120
kilometers from the border of Georgia and Azerbaijan, poses a threat
not only to Azerbaijan but also to other countries in the region.

The document contains several recommendations over Metsamor NPP.

“Given the importance of maintaining security in the region and
Europe, the Assembly recommends the following: – to appoint a
special rapporteur to carry out an urgent and full investigation
of the matter; – to form a group of parliamentarians who have the
appropriate specialty to study the issue; -to urgently the basis for
dialogue with the participation of renowned experts of the Committees
on Environment, Agriculture and Local and Regional Affairs and the
Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights,” the document says.

Metsamor NPP was built in 1970. After the devastating earthquake in
Spitak in 1988 it was closed, but in 1995, despite international
protests, the activities of the station were resumed, moreover,
the second reactor was launched.

Given the large number of minor earthquakes in the past 10 years in
this area, as well as the intensification of seismic processes, as
indicated by research of seismologists, in the event of a serious
accident at the Metsamor NPP not only Armenia, but also all the
countries of South Caucasus and the Middle East will seriously suffer.

Paruyr Hayrikyan Is Going To Run For Presidency In 2013

PARUYR HAYRIKYAN IS GOING TO RUN FOR PRESIDENCY IN 2013

arminfo
Tuesday, June 26, 22:09

In view of Armenia’s serious democratic and demographical problems,
the leader of the National Self-Determination Union party Paruyr
Hayrikyan is going to run for presidency in 2013.

During a press-conference on Tuesday he said that today Armenia needs
70% rather 7% economic growth.

“Our per capita GDP is just $2,000 against an average of $8,000 in
Europe. In order to reach their level, we need at least 50% economic
growth, while the 7% growth planned by the Government means that we
will remain among the poorest nations,” Hayrikyan said.

According to Armenia’s National Statistical Service, in 2011 the
country’s per capita GDP was $3,000 (9.1% more than a year before).

The Government’s program 2012-2017 stipulates 5-7% economic growth.

No Obstacle To Prosperous Armenia, ANC Cooperation – Opposition Lead

NO OBSTACLE TO PROSPEROUS ARMENIA, ANC COOPERATION – OPPOSITION LEADER

TERT.AM
26.06.12

Chairman of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) Levon
Ter-Petrosyan delivered a speech at the ANC rally in Yerevan, Armenia,
Tuesday.

He particularly domestic policy issues, the ANC’s cooperation with
the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), and the opposition’s role in
Armenia’s newly formed parliament.

After Armenia’s new parliament was formed and discussed the government
program a completely new situation has developed in the country. Not
only political circles, but also media outlets admit the fact,
Ter-Petrosyan said.

“Four parliamentary factions strongly resisted the program by the
government headed by Mr. Tigran Sargsyan: the Armenian National
Congress, Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), Armenian Revolutionary
Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D) and Heritage were severely critical
of not only the program, but also the team,” the ANC leader said,
quoting a comment by the Zhoghovurd newspaper.

He also made a number of similar quotations.

Hardly anyone will sincerely think that this new situation has
developed by itself, but not due to well-thought-out steps by
opposition forces – specifically due to the cooperation between the
ANC, PAP, ARF-D and, in part, Heritage party.

Although the PAP, both during the elections and discussion of the
government program efficiently cooperated with the other opposition
forces, which, however, does not prevent some from playing down
the importance of the new political reality in Armenia, which is a
universally admitted fact.

To achieve their aim, they resort to the following methods: first,
intimidating the people with Robert Kocharyan’s return; second,
convincing society that the PAP is not real opposition because it
did not made a relevant statement in Armenia’s parliament.

The following should be noted: since last October the so-called
independent media outlets and political forces, as well as “elements”
that fell away from the ANC, have been doing their utmost to prevent
the PAP from turning an opposition force and establishing cooperation
with the ANC. The aim is to force the PAP into siding with President
Serzh Sargsyan.

With this end in view, Armenia’s authorities will apply various
administrative mechanisms. Any political forces laying claims to
becoming a serious political factor must be able to resist the
pressure, Ter-Petrosyan said.
