BAKU: Azeri experts dismiss Iran’s offer to create Muslim military a

Azeri experts dismiss Iran’s offer to create Muslim military alliance

Azerbaijani experts have dismissed Iran’s offer to create a military
alliance of Muslim countries, opposition Yeni Musavat newspaper
reported on 15 July.

Political analyst Vafa Quluzada ruled out the possibility of creating
Muslim countries’ military union and said Iran was simply being
diplomatic by making the offer, the paper said.

“Iran is Armenia’s and Russia’s ally. In this case, how can it unite
Muslim countries? Russia is the country that has suppressed Muslim
states throughout history,” Quluzada said.

The paper quoted Aydin Mirzazada, a member of the ruling New
Azerbaijan Party’s Political Council and deputy chairman of the
parliamentary committee for security and defence affairs, as saying
that Iran should put forward “certain initiatives and take action”
prior to making this kind of proposal.

“Iran, which proposes the formation of a military union, is helping
Armenia in every way and is directly assisting it in keeping
Azerbaijani lands under occupation,” Mirzazada said.

Military expert Yasar Cafarli noted that creating Muslim countries’
military union “was not the right approach”, Yeni Musavat said.

“Countries should negotiate with one another regardless of their
religion. We should build peaceful ties with all countries. I think
this is better than having Muslims unite against Christians or vice
versa,” the newspaper quoted Cafarli as saying.

The many faces of genocide

Azril Mohd Amin
11:08AM Aug 17, 2012

How many instances of attempted genocide have we seen since the 1900?
Some would say the Turks tried to eliminate the Armenians. The
Armenians are sure of it. Hitler admittedly tried to eliminate all
Jews from the face of the earth.

People did not quite believe him until the actual death camps were
discovered. If you stand in one of them, for example Auschwitz in
Poland, there can be no question what went on there. There can be no
question anything ELSE went on there. It is plain as day. Even then,
the world didn’t want to believe it.

Genocide is such an impossible concept to think about, we are missing
examples right now. What are the Israelis trying to do to the Gazans?
What are the Burmese attempting to do to the Rohingyas?

One difficulty is that we cannot quite grasp WHY one people would want
to literally erase another. And the present `people’s favorite’ Aung
San Suu Kyi is going about the face of the earth without accounting in
any way for the unspeakable suffering that has been visited upon the
Rohingyas for some time now.

We can coddle the `new Burma’ all we like, but we must face the truth
of the matter. Many Rohingya refugees right here in Malaysia can fill
in the details of how, whatever direction they turn, nobody wants
them. People wish them gone, erased, simply eliminated. Is it because
they are Muslims?

The Rohingyas would like to help their people, yet nobody gives them
the slightest toe-hold, for example, some sort of address or clear
refugee status by which the government could assess their needs and
direct its assistance.

It is commendable to note that the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation
(OIC) has suspended Syria’s membership at the recent summit of Muslim
leaders in Mecca, citing President Bashar al-Assad’s violent
suppression of the Syrian revolt.

Mere condemnations not enough

In a final statement, the OIC also decided to take to the United
Nations the issue of Myanmar’s Muslim Rohingyas, displaced by deadly
sectarian violence. It described as a `crime against humanity’ the
Myanmar government’s handling of minority Muslims. But it should not
stop at mere condemnations.

The OIC must press for the International Criminal Court (ICC) to
investigate the massacre, and indict and prosecute the Myanmar
government responsible for the massacre of thousands of Rohingyas for
violations of international criminal law based on the provisions
stipulated under the Rome Statute of the ICC.

There is no denying that the ensuing killings of the Rohingyas are
also a clear violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

It is sheer hypocrisy; that many countries go around claiming credit
for trusting the Burmese and bringing them into the `modern democratic
world’, or at least the Asean world, while at the same time totally
ignoring a human rights travesty which should be referred to the ICC
for adjudication – and especially Muslim-majority countries helping
the Burmese while ignoring the deadly plight of their own Muslim
so-called brothers and sisters within that same country.

No better example of hypocrisy could be found, and for this alone the
members of the OIC, if they fail to act fast, should be defrocked and
consigned to the garbage heap of accomplices to attempted genocide, if
not traitors to the Muslim Ummah.

`Sukhoi Civil Aircraft’ may sue `Armavia’

Mediamax, Armenia
Aug 17 2012

`Sukhoi Civil Aircraft’ may sue `Armavia’ if it doesn’t pay off the debt for SuperJet

Yerevan/Mediamax/. Representative of “Sukhoi Civil Aircraft’ (SCA)
threatened to sue “Armavia’ if the latter doesn’t pay off the debt for
purchased aircrafts.

As RBK daily reports, two SuperJets belonging to `Armavia’ are
currently at the repair base of SCA test-flight complex in Zhukovsky,
because the aircraft operator hasn’t paid for the scheduled repair
works for one of the aircrafts. SCA vice president Yevgeny Konkov said
this yesterday, adding that `Armavia’ doesn’t negotiate and pay for
anything.’

`In accord with contractual obligations we can sue `Armavia’ for both
aircrafts,’ said Konkov. He refused to name the amount of the debt,
noting that `taking into consideration its financial position, it will
be a significant amount for the Armenian air carrier.’

However, SCA can’t take away the planes from `Armavia’. `The first
liner is in pledge. `Armavia’ has put the plane in pledge in one of
the Armenian banks without informing us about it and without having
any right to do it. There are only two ways to return the planes-
either in court or in a pre-trial order,’ Yevgeny Konkov noted.
According to him, it’s not difficult to sue the Armenian air carrier
`as the contract was concluded in accord with Russian laws.’

According to non-official data, the first serial aircraft is put in
pledge at Ardshininvestbank as `Armavia’ owes $1,2mln to the bank.
This plane is a security for a $3,4mln loan the air company has taken
to buy Bombardier.

At the same time, SCA and Vnesheconombank were ready to help `Armavia’
and invented a scheme to re-finance the company’s debt, RBK reports.
`This was a loan-leasing scheme, Deputy Chairman of Vnesheconombank
Alexander Ivanov said. The financial position of `Armavia’ is not
ideal. But we were ready to allocate a $40mln credit for 8 years to
finance the purchase of two aircrafts.’ According to him, the
aircrafts were supposed to be released from pledge and re-registered
in the Netherlands. Very competent consultants were invited to carry
out the deal.

`We incurred costs for restructuring the deal, which, in accordance
with the agreement with `Armavia’, should be compensated by the
Armenian air company, and we hope to resolve this issue in the nearest
future,’ said Ivanov.

However, `Armavia’ refused the deal and announced in early August that
it refused to buy the previously ordered aircrafts complaining on the
economic inefficiency of their exploitation. The air carrier stated
that it didn’t have any debts to SCA. Early this week, Russian Prime
Minister Dmitry Medvedev ordered the ministries of Industry and Trade
and Foreign Affairs and the United Air Construction Corporation to
resolve the case by September 15.

Yevgeny Konkov believes that other air carriers in Russia and abroad
may get interested in the `Armavia’s’ aircrafts. According to him, one
of Indian carriers is interested in the liners. The company wants to
reconfigure the liner into a business-class plane. The market
participants assure this company is Aviotech.

As the edition reports, theoretically the court can resolve the case
in favor of the declarant and a writ of execution can be issued. As
far as `Armavia’ operates flights to Russia, its aircrafts can be
arrested on the territory of the Russian airport, managing partner of
`Korelsky, Ishuk, Astafiev and partners’ Law Company, Andrei Korelsky,
says, adding that `such actions can deteriorate relations between two
countries. At the same time, the writ of execution can be a good
argument in negotiations on buying the SuperJet.’

Protesters demand freedom for ANC activists

Protesters demand freedom for ANC activists

tert.am
17:02 – 17.08.12

Activists of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) opposition bloc have
conducted their regular protest rally in front of the office of the
prosecutor general, demanding freedom for their convicted friends.

The participants of the rally were calling to set free ANC activists
Tigran Arakelyan, Artak Karapetyan, Sargis Gevorgyan and Davit
Kirimijyan.

The young people have been convicted from 6 to 2 years of imprisonment
for using force against law enforces on August 9, 2011.

Speaking to Tert.am, ANC MP Nikol Pashinyan said the goal of the rally
is to alarm the public.

`No one, irrespective of state, social position is guaranteed from
illegalities. Today many are speaking in Armenia about national
reconciliation, national ideology. In contemporary county the national
reconciliation and ideology fit in the limits of Constitution and
legality. When one sector of the population is being persecuted by
another one, it becomes senseless to speak of national
reconciliation,’ Pashinyan said.

The ANC MP said the rallies are addressed to all as nothing is being
changed in the country. This action is aimed at finding a way out.

Nikol Pashinyan said he is sure each injustice may be solved through
public opinion.

Like during the previous days, this time as well no response came from
the prosecutor general’s office.

Deceived Owners of Apartments Will Intrude

Deceived Owners of Apartments Will Intrude

Roza Hovhannisyan

Story from Lragir.am News:

Published: 14:46:18 – 15/08/2012

The owners of apartments in the new building at Saryan and Yekmalyan
Streets who had been evicted from demolished buildings tried to
intrude into the building but the guards stopped them. These people
still have to rent apartments. Part of apartments of this building
will be provided to the owners of demolished buildings on Pavstos
Buzand Street.

They were promised apartments in the place of the demolished building.
Construction began 11 years ago but the contractor, Vizcon Company,
whose founder Pavel Anderson has left for the United States, leaving
the job halfway. Yerevan City Hall later decided to provide apartments
in the building at Saryan-Yekmalyan. The people signed contracts in
2004 but have not received apartments yet. The contractors are Simon
Aghazaryan and Gagik Papoyan. Gagik Papoyan has been detained. The
future owners of apartments have received no answers to their
questions.

The builders sold each apartment to 4-5 buyers. The building has been
sequestrated by the City Hall. The evicted citizens get neither
compensation, nor an apartment.

The citizens intend to intrude into their apartments. They have
learned from the City Hall that the place of their former apartments
where only the fundament has been dug, is put on sale to solve the
housing issue of the former citizens.

Two months ago the deceived residents of demolished buildings stopped
Serzh Sargsyan’s car on his way to work. The president promised that
in ten days there will be certainty about their issue but nobody has
answered their questions yet.
