Affaire Safarov : Valerie BOYER s’engage pour les droits de l’Homme

La grâce accordee par le President azeri Aliev a Ramil Safarov,
coupable de l’assassinat particulièrement barbare de l’officier
armenien Gourguen Markarian dans son sommeil, a profondement choque
la communaute armenienne et au-dela la communaute internationale dans
son ensemble. Accueilli en heros dans son pays, Safarov ne purgera
pas sa peine de reclusion criminelle a perpetuite, condition pourtant
requise par la Hongrie pour accorder son extradition. Promu au rang de
major, dote d’une maison et paye de son salaire pour les huit annees
passees en Hongrie, le criminel azeri est en realite recompense par
l’Azerbaïdjan.

Partout des voix s’elèvent pour condamner cette glorification odieuse,
mais que dit la France qui avait invite le Ministre des affaires
etrangères azeri le 3 septembre ? Il y a un an, je me suis rendue au
Haut-Karabagh pour connaître cette terre ancestrale armenienne où se
joue depuis des annees un conflit ethnique oublie auquel le nouveau
gouvernement est totalement indifferent. L’Azerbaïdjan demontre une
nouvelle fois que ses intentions a l’egard de la Republique d’Armenie
ne sont pas a l’apaisement mais bien a la provocation. La voix de
notre pays doit s’elever pour defendre les valeurs de la Convention
de sauvegarde des droits de l’homme et des libertes fondamentales.

A l’approche du centenaire du genocide armenien, il ne faudrait pas que
les armeniens du Haut-Karabagh soient encore l’objet de persecutions
du fait de leur origine. C’est pourquoi j’ai saisi le Ministre des
affaires etrangères en lui adressant une question ecrite et serai
aujourd’hui aux côtes de la diaspora armenienne et des armeniens
d’Armenie pour la marche de protestation. Le petrole n’achète ni la
memoire, ni les Droits de l’Homme.

soit transforme en heros”

Strasbourg, le 04.09.2012 – Dans une declaration publiee le 4
septembre, le Secretaire General du Conseil de l’Europe Thorbjørn
Jagland estime qu’un meurtre tel que celui commis par Ramil Safarov
ne saurait etre glorifie. “Ramil Safarov a ete juge pour meurtre et
condamne a la prison a vie en Hongrie.

Le 31 août, il a ete transfere en Azerbaïdjan, où il a ete
immediatement gracie. Je ne veux pas commenter les procedures
judiciaires, mais j’estime inacceptable qu’un individu condamne pour
meurtre soit accueilli en heros.” “Je rejette l’idee d’un monde où
la morale se delite, où les principes fondes sur le respect de l’etat
de droit et de la dignite humaine sont nies.

Ce n’est pas l’Europe que nous devrions souhaiter pour les generations
futures. Je condamne cette glorification du crime et appelle instamment
chacun d’entre nous a ~uvrer pour le respect de la vie et de nos
valeurs, telles que les defend le Conseil de l’Europe”, a-t-il declare.

IRAN TO ATTEND QUADRILATERAL MEETING ON SYRIA IN CAIRO

Iran will attend a quadrilateral meeting on Syria in Cairo, Iran’s
Fars news agency said.

It is reported that Cairo will host a meeting of Iran, Turkey, Egypt
and Qatar on September 12 to discuss the latest developments in Syria
and find a solution to the Syrian crisis.

Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian will represent Iran
at the meeting.

Reporter is kept in Police department

A while ago the reprter of Lurer.com informed, that a few young people
approach `Aspares’ club journalist Karen Harutyunyan in 34/65 and
34/63 precincts and demand to stop shooting gatherings in the
precincts and threatened to beat him. Then Karen Harutyunyan
approaches the policeman and informs on threats, after which the
policeman talks to the people threatening him.

The policeman invites Karen Harutyunyan to the nearest Police
department to report on crime. The reporter is kept in the department
for 2 hours reasoning that the investigator is out.

At the moment Karen Harutyunyan is in the department and as a result
of non-professional work of the Police his reporting activity is
obstacled.
So, instead of real criminals the reporter is in the Police department.

Azerbaïdjan: l’ONU “très préoccupée” par l’affaire Safarov

AFP – Le Haut-commissariat des droits de l’Homme de l’ONU est “très
préoccupé” par l’affaire Ramil Safarov, un officier azerbaïdjanais
condamné en Hongrie à la prison à vie pour le meutre d’un officier
arménien en 2004 à Budapest mais libéré et promu après le retour dans
son pays, a déclaré vendredi un porte-parole de l’instance onusienne à
Genève.

Le lieutenant Ramil Safarov avait été condamné en Hongrie à la
perpétuité en 2004 pour avoir décapité l’officier arménien Gourgen
Margarian. Extradé vers son pays par les autorités hongroises, il a
été grcié aussitôt par le président azerbaïdjanais Ilham Aliev et a
reçu une promotion.

“Notre préoccupation s’explique par le fait qu’il y a environ une
semaine, Safarov a été extradé de Hongrie vers l’Azerbaïdjan, où au
lieu de purger le reste de sa peine, il a été grcié par le président,
couvert de louanges et reçu une promotion au ministère de la défense,
ce qui a abouti à un mouvement international de protestations”, a dit
le porte-parole.

“Des crimes de haine, d’origine ethnique, de cette gravité, doivent
être punis, et non pas être glorifiés par des dirigeants politiques”,
a-t-il souligné.

Le secrétaire général de l’ONU Ban Ki-moon s’est également déclaré
“préoccupé” jeudi par cette grce présidentielle, tout comme les
Etats-Unis, l’Union européenne et la Russie.

Ter-Petrosyan visits Pantheon

First Armenian President Levon Ter-Petrosyan visited today the
Yerevan Pantheon after Komitas in order to attend a ceremony marking
the 90th anniversary of world-famous conductor Ohan Duryan’s birth.

Among those present were friends and relatives of Duryan, as well as
admirers of his art.

“He was an elder friend, a great citizen, and, of course, a unique art
expert, popular with everybody. We learned a lot not only from his
art, but also from his personality and his attitude towards art,”
actor and director Yervand Manaryan stated. In his opinion, Duryan was
gullible and easy to deceive, but one also felt that one should not
treat him like that.

Those present said that it was painful to think that the world-famous
conductor is no longer with us.

Writer Karine Khodikyan said that thanks to his modesty and his
aspiration for justice, Ohan Duryan became popular as a person and an
artist. “A market would become a small rally; people would surround
the maestro to give him a fruit or ask him questions about our fate”.
In her opinion, there are few intellectuals today whom ordinary people
can approach and ask questions.

During the last years of his life the maestro was confined to bed, but
he continued to participate in all events of the Armenian National
Congress, considering it his duty to appeal to people from the
Matenadaran rostrum and urge them to become more sober.

A leading player of Armenia’s male chess team, Levon Aronian, has
shared his enthusiasm with today’s victory on his Twitter profile.

`We won the Olympiad !! So proud to be a part of a team like this!
Hurray hurray hurray! Armenia rules !!!!’ the sportsman tweeted.

The team won the world Olympic champion’s title for the third time
today, after gaining advantage over Hungary in the last round of the
competitions.

Three times the champs!: Armenia wins another World Chess Olympiad

Armenia has finished on top in the competition of some 150 nations to
win another World Chess Olympiad title in Istanbul, Turkey. This is
the third Olympic gold won by Armenia in chess.

In the decisive round on Sunday coach Arshak Petrosyan’s team led by
the world’s current number two FIDE player Levon Aronian beat Hungary
2.5-1.5 to gather 19 points in the 11-round competition. Sergei
Movsesian playing with white pieces on the second board brought the
team the winning point.

Russia that beat Germany 3-1 also gathered 19 points, but Armenia
finished on top due to additional showings. Ukraine, which beat China
3-1, took third place.

This is the third Olympiad title in the history of independent
Armenia. The first two were won at the tournaments in Turin and
Dresden in 2006 and 2008, respectively.

Iraq sentences fugitive Vice President to death

PanARMENIAN.Net – Fugitive Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi was
sentenced to death by an Iraqi court on Sunday, Sept 9 after he was
convicted of murder in a ruling likely to further exacerbate sectarian
tension, Reuters reported.

Hashemi, a Sunni, fled the country earlier this year after authorities
accused him of running a death squad. His case triggered a crisis in
the power-sharing government among Sunni, Shi’ite and Kurdish
political blocs.

“The high criminal court issued a death sentence by hanging against
Tareq al-Hashemi after he was convicted,” Abdul-Sattar al-Birqdar, a
spokesman for the judiciary council said.

Hashemi and his son-in-law were both found guilty of two murders.
Under Iraqi law, a conviction is followed immediately by sentencing.
The death sentence can be appealed.

Since the last American troops left in December, Prime Minister Nuri
al-Maliki’s Shi’ite-led government has been hamstrung by political
deadlock among the Shi’ite, Sunni and Kurdish blocs. Upswings in
political tension are often accompanied by a surge in violence as
Sunni Islamists and a local al Qaeda wing seek to stir up the kind of
sectarian killing that dragged Iraq to the edge of civil war in
2006-2007.

Bombings and attacks across Iraq killed at least 58 people on Sunday,
including a bombing outside the French consular office in the southern
city of Nassiriya.

Hashemi, who is in Turkey, has accused Maliki of conducting a
political witch-hunt against Sunni opponents, but the government said
it was a judicial case.

After the fall of Sunni dictator Saddam Hussein and the rise of Iraq’s
Shi’ite majority to power, many Iraqi Sunnis feel they have been
sidelined. Sunni politicians say Maliki is failing to live up to
agreements to share government power among the parties.

Armenians pray in Holy Cross Church amid tight security measures

PanARMENIAN.Net – Local and Diaspora Armenians flocked to the Armenian
Church of the Holy Cross on Akhtamar Island in Turkey’s eastern
province of Van on Sunday, Sept 9, to attend its third annual
religious ceremony.

Today’s Zaman reports that many Armenians traveled to the town of
GevaÅ? in the eastern province of Van early Sunday morning by bus or
minibus, to take the 20-minute journey the island in boats.

Attendees lit candles and prayed in the southern part of the church
during the ceremony which at 11.00 am amid tight security measures.

The Church of the Holy Cross was in ruins and on the verge of collapse
when a restoration project was launched in 2005. It officially opened
for worship on Sept 12, 2010.
