Remarks by Zhirinovsky-like politicians not good for Russian-Azeri
ties – Baku official

BAKU. Sept 21

Baku does not take remarks made by Russian Liberal Democratic Party
leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky seriously, but it will continue responding
to his anti-Azeri statements, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister
Araz Azimov said.

“In my opinion, politicians such as Vladimir Zhirinovsky cannot be
taken seriously,” Azimov told journalists, commenting on the Russian
parliamentarian’s speech at a recent rally organized by the Union of
Russian Armenians in Moscow.

The Azeri government should make efforts to prevent similar statements
in the future “because they do not positively influence the
development of bilateral relations, but create obstacles to the
development of friendly ties,” the deputy minister said.

The Russian authorities have not yet responded to Baku’s protest over
Zhirinovsky’s remarks, Azimov said.

The Azeri Foreign Ministry forwarded a note of protest to Russia
following Zhirinovsky’s statement. Russian Ambassador Vladimir
Dorokhin was summoned to the Azeri Foreign Ministry on Tuesday and
Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov notified him of Baku’s
discontent over the remarks made by the Liberal Democratic Party
leader in Moscow on September 14.

According to the Azeri ministry, this event was dedicated to the
possibility of pardoning Azeri officer Ramil Safarov, who was
extradited to Azerbaijan by Hungary, where he was given a life
sentence for killing an Armenian soldier.

The provocative statements made by Zhirinovsky at the rally cast a
shadow over cooperation and friendly relations between Azerbaijan and
Russia, Khalafov said.

Such remarks also harm Russia’s mission within the Organization for
Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group, which has been
mediating a solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, he said.

During today’s session of the government, prime minister Tigran
Sargsyan demanded explanations from the minister of finances Vache
Gabrielyan on the abuses in the sphere of state purchases.

Vache Gabrielyan noted that the problems and mistakes are not reasoned
by the normative field where there are issues too, but mainly by the
administrative norms.

The minister proposed to change the leadership of the Purchase support
center which deals with those issues and shortcomings. The prime
minister instructed to work out the orders to fire the head of the
center, the deputy head and the department heads.

By the way, the head of the Purchase support center is the brother of

Deputy Chief of Yerevan Police: my leaving will give you a great
pleasure, relax and enjoy

2012-09-22 11:02:21

Today `Hraparak’ has written, that according to their data, the Deputy
Chief of Yerevan Police Robert Melkonyan is to be dismissed from his
position in the coming days: he goes for his deserved rest- pension.
According to the newspaper, it was probably the reason, that a few
days ago Serzh Sargsyan awarded Bazaz a 2nd degree medal for the
`service to the country’, going forward to the 21st anniversary on the
Independence.
The Deputy Chief of Police referred to this publication on his page of
Facebook social network:
`Dear editorial of `Hraparak’, I understood that you envied my special
thanks to `Haykakan Zhamanak’, and you too remembered my modest
personality, of course my nickname which has already become a brand,
and of course you bit for `Facebook’ activity, and patented a new term
– meeting disperser … I thought so, that my leaving will cause you a
great pleasure, relax and enjoy… Congratulations on your day, Gayane
Saribekyan…’
Note, that according to the press publication, from now on Mr.
Melkonyan can easily engage himself in public speaking on `Facebook’,
and no one will dare to blame him that he is on the internet while
working: `But Vova Gasparyan has to find a new meeting-disperser,
someone like irreplaceable `Bazaz’.’
