ANCA CALLS UPON U.S. CONGRESS TO COUNTER AZERBAIJANI AGGRESSION AND CUT ARMS SALES TO BAKU

12:20, 20 February, 2013

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 20, ARMENPRESS: Armenian Americans mark the ninth
anniversary of the murder of Armenian Lt. Gurgen Margaryan with calls
upon Congress to counter Azerbaijani aggression and cut arms sales
to Baku. As reported Armenpress, referring to The Armenian National
Committee of America, on the occasion of the ninth anniversary of
the brutal axe-murder of Armenian Army Lieutenant Gurgen Margaryan
by Azerbaijani Lt. Ramil Safarov, ANCA expanded an outreach campaign
to the Washington, DCforeign policy community about Azerbaijani’s
escalating threats of war, destabilizing arms build-up, and ongoing
threats to peace

“Lieutenant Margaryan’s premeditated and brutal murder nine years ago,
and, more recently, President Aliyev’s pardon, praise, and promotion of
his unrepentant killer, Ramil Safarov, reflect and reinforce the very
same toxic, anti-Armenian hatred that fueled the Azerbaijani pogroms in
Sumgait, Kirovabad, Maragha, and Baku,” said ANCA Executive Director
Aram Hamparian. “It is this officially-sanctioned hatred that would
surely – if Artaskh were ever to fall into Aliyev’s angry grasp –
lead to an all-out drive by Baku to destroy the entire Armenian
population of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic.”

Lt. Margaryan was axed to death in his sleep on February 19, 2004,
by Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov, during a NATO-sponsored English
language training program. The convicted murderer, who confessed and
never expressed regret for his offense, was extradited by Hungary in
2012 to Azerbaijan, where he was immediately given a hero’s welcome,
pardoned, promoted and financially rewarded for his hate crime.

TheU.S. condemned the action, with an immediate White House statement,
issued in the name of National Security Council Spokesman Tommy
Vietor, underscoring the President’s view that, “This action is
contrary to ongoing efforts to reduce regional tensions and promote
reconciliation.” Similar statements were issued by Members of Congress
and elected officials around the world.

A detailed ANCA overview of Azerbaijani aggression against its
Armenian population in Sumgait, Kirovabadand Baku as well as concrete
ways Congress can assist in the peaceful resolution of the Karabakh
conflict.

IN WELL-KEPT ARMENIAN VILLAGE AYLIS THERE ARE MANY SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES, AND PEOPLE THERE RESEMBLE THE FRENCH

Collection of Azerichild.info site replenished by another publicistic
work written in early 20th century called “Journey of Mozalan Beck”.

It’s from journal of “Molla Nasreddin” of 1909 in which the author
Gurbanli Sharifov shares his impressions after visiting the Armenian
village Aylis (Agulis) and compares it with the Muslim (Azerbaijani)
Ordubad city.

It is noteworthy that at the time when this story was going to be
printed, the magazine, founded by Jalil Mamedkulizade in 1906 and
censored by his Armenian colleagues was fully under the control of
young writers, editors and censors – Transcaucasian Tatars.

“It seems that even fools would be stupefied. First of all I want to
note that the village was like a well-kept area of Tbilisi. Beautiful
mansions, clean streets, many large and beautiful bridges, a lot
of schools, libraries, reading rooms and buildings with an amazing
educational equipment and decorations. I swear by Allah, I was
petrified.

And people are not recognizable as if they had just arrived from
France, their clothes, their behavior, impeccable purity (speaking
of purity, I mean appearance of the people do not think of something
else.) I was truly amazed.

Returning from Aylis to Ordubad I saw that in one of the houses they
again read a prayer and Muslims gathered there are again crying.

And I really wanted to ask them my dears, why are you crying? What is
wrong with you again? Or have you already realized that our neighbors,
who are armed with enlightenment, will come here, will seize all of
your property, and will turn you all in their own servants?

And let no one say that it is not like that. If you pay a little
attention to the history of world culture, you will realize that in
the end it will be so.”

Armenia’s Wounded Presidential Candidate To Remain In Hospital For A

ARMENIA’S WOUNDED PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE TO REMAIN IN HOSPITAL FOR AT LEAST 5 DAYS

NEWS.AM
February 19, 2013 | 13:55

YEREVAN. – Armenian presidential candidate, opposition National
Self-Determination Union (NSU) Chairman Paruyr Hayrikyan-who was
discharged on February 11 from capital city Yerevan’s Surb Grigor
Lusavorich Medical Center after being treated for a gunshot wound
following an assassination attempt-spent Monday night at the hospital
and he will stay there on Tuesday night, too, Center Director Ara
Minasyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He noted that Hayrikyan is in satisfactory health condition, and his
rehabilitation and physiotherapy sessions are still in progress.

In Minasyan’s words, the NSU leader still has pain in his right hand,
but the pain has reduced to some extent. The director also noted
that the presidential contender will remain in hospital for at least
five days.

To note, Hayrikyan had returned to the Center after having cast his
ballot in Monday’s presidential election.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, an assassination
attempt was made against presidential candidate, opposition National
Self-Determination Union Chairman Paruyr Hayrikyan, on January 31 at
around 11:20pm in downtown Yerevan, in front of his home. Hayrikyan was
shot and hospitalized with a gunshot wound. He underwent a successful
surgery on the morning of February 1, and a bullet-which was located
in the soft tissues of his right elbow shoulder-was removed.

Also, a criminal case is opened in connection with the assassination
attempt against Hayrikyan. It is launched on charges of carrying out an
assassination attempt against a statesman, political or public figure,
which-that is, the attempt-is carried out to end this person’s noted
activities. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for 12-20 years,
or life in prison. The National Security Service is conducting the
investigation. On February 7, formerly convicted Khachatur Poghosyan,
and Samvel Harutyunyan were detained on suspicion of carrying out an
assassination attempt against Paruyr Hayrikyan. And on February 10,
Poghosyan, 46, and Harutyunyan, 40 were arrested. Both have pleaded
guilty.

Separately, Hayrikyan had announced, on February 1, that he planned
to petition to the Constitutional Court for a postponement of the
presidential election-which is slated for February 18-for two weeks.

Subsequently, however, he changed his mind several times in this
respect, but, ultimately, he did submit a corresponding petition to
the Court on February 10. On February 11, however, he withdrew the
petition and, also, he was discharged from hospital on the same day.

But the presidential contender’s long campaign trips to the regions had
an adverse effect on his health condition, as the pain in Hayrikyan’s
right hand intensified and, as a result, he was taken back to Surb
Grigor Lusavorich Medical Center.

February 19 marks the 9th anniversary of the murder of Armenian
Officer Gurgen Margaryan during NATO courses in Budapest.

Lieutenant of the Armenian Armed Forces Gurgen Margaryan was hacked to
death, while asleep, by a fellow Azerbaijani participant, lieutenant
Ramil Safarov, in Budapest during a three-month English language course
in the framework of NATO-sponsored Partnership for Peace program.

In 2006, Safarov was sentenced to life imprisonment in Hungary with a
minimum incarceration period of 30 years. He was extradited on August
31, 2012 to Azerbaijan where he was greeted as a hero, pardoned by
Azerbaijani president, Ilham Aliyev despite contrary assurances made
to Hungary, promoted to the rank of major and given an apartment and
over eight years of back pay.

Following Safarov’s pardon, Armenia severed diplomatic relations with
Hungary and immediate protests broke out in Yerevan.

AZERBAIJANI ANALYST TO CONDUCT FESTIVAL OF ARMENIAN FILMS, DESPITE NOISE OVER ACRAM AYLISLI’S NOVEL

TERT.AM
19.02.13

Still in summer 2012 Azerbaijani analyst Zardust Alizade stated about
readiness to conduct festival of Armenian films in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani vesti.az, tried to clarify the reasons of delay and whether
it is connected with the Stone Dreams novel written by Acram Aylisli.

In the beginning the analyst said the festival would take place
in fall and then in December and then in January 2013. But it was
followed with the noise over Aylisli’s novel.

“I want to say that the noise over Aylisli’s novel has nothing to do
with the delay and has not affected his intention to organize the
festival of Armenian films. I am sure each person has a right to
express his/her opinion,” the Azerbaijani analyst said.

He said he has not changed the idea to organize the festival but was
busy with other projects during the recent months.

L’Ambassadeur D’Iran En Azerbaidjan : La Turquie Repand Le Panturqui
