CULTURAL GENOCIDE PRECEDES ALL PHYSICAL PRESSURE – ARMENIAN EXPERT

YEREVAN. – All physical pressure is preceded by cultural genocide,
Chairman Ashot Grigoryan of the Forum of Armenian Associations of
Europe stated during a press conference on Tuesday.

“We continue our fight for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide,
and we also are fighting at UNESCO, in the matter of destruction
of the cross-stones of the [Armenian] cemetery of Old Jugha [Julfa,
in Nakhichevan, Azerbaijan].

“Azerbaijan paid $1.5 million to UNESCO, and we will [launch a] protest
to Director-General Irina Bokova of this organization,” Grigoryan said.

The expert also stressed that they issued a letter to UN
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, with a request to set up a UNESCO
commission and, within the scope of whose activities, the Azerbaijanis’
destruction of 10,000 Armenian cross-stone-monuments is aimed to
be recognized.

“The British Museum is another matter. Armenian exhibits are displayed
there, [but] with the inscription: ‘Ancient Turkey,'” Ashot Grigoryan
noted.

DEMONSTRATIONS IN FRONT OF FOREIGN EMBASSIES IN YEREVAN

A group of people have gathered today in front of foreign embassies
in Armenia protesting against the congratulations of the presidents
of the countries on Serzh Sargsyan’s re-election.

The demonstration started from French embassy where the protesters
handed a letter addressed to the ambassador. The letter says that they
are deeply disappointed with the French president’s assessment of the
elections and his congratulation addressed to non-elected president.

“We want to see such manifestation of democratic values that is proper
to declared European states. With your activities or inactivity you
have no right to devalue the moral capital formed among the people of
Armenia and which the European people formed during the years. Such
policy will result in the loss of our trust and creation of gap
between Europe and Armenia,” the letter runs.

Afterwards, the participants moved to Italian embassy in Armenia
where they handed the same content letter to the Italian ambassador.

The participants also went to the Russian embassy but the police did
not allow them to approach the building. One of the demonstrators
was allowed to drop the letter to the post box.

RAFFI HOVANNISIAN CALLS ON POLICEMEN TO OPEN ROADS IN ETCHMIADZIN (UPDATED, PHOTOS)

Leader of Armenia’s Heritage party started his second say of provincial
visits from the town of Armavir where many people were waiting for him.

As usual, before addressing the gathered he walked in the streets of
the town, greeted the people and congratulated on victory. Hovannisian
promised to take this victory till the end.

“We will go forward, it is the fight of our flag, our children,”
he said, kissing Armenia’s flag.

Raffi Hovannisian welcomed the resignation of Armavir mayor Ruben
Khlghatyan and said the resignations will reach Syunik and tomorrow
Syunik’s governor will resign. “Your mayor displayed least fortitude
and resigned, he violated the law and that is why he did it,” Heritage
party’s leader said.

He said that he will again visit Armavir province but not to
congratulate but implement the victory. The gathered demanded the
resignation of governor of the province.

Speaking to Tert.am a number of residents said they are pleased with
the resignation of the mayor, claiming he should have done it earlier.

In Armavir Raffi Hovannisian polled 58,32% and incumbent president
Serzh Sargsyan 37,29%.

After Armavir, Raffi Hovannisian visited the town of Metsamor calling
on the people there not to be afraid of anything and get prepared
for the struggle as he cannot do it alone.

“It does not matter whether nine months ago you voted for Heritage,
ARF-D or Prosperous Armenia party. Despite the frauds you believed
in your victory,” he said, adding that with its voting Metsamor said
it takes back the power.

Speaking to Tert.am about “Revolution of Hello” one of the Metsamor
residents said he believes in it, while the other said everything
should have been done before the elections, and it is already late now.

In Metsamor Raffi Hovannisian and Serzh sargsyan received equal votes
– 40%.

Later Raffi Hovannisian reached Etchmiadzin where the policemen were
trying to keep public order and calling on people to leave the roads.

Addressing the police Raffi Hovannisian said, “No fear, no threat, open
the roads of the Armenian people. Hence policeman is with us, be sure.”

Addressing the present he said the Armenian people won. He also said
that those who are not with them and do not agree with them should
be respected.

WHITE HOUSE DECLINED AZERBAIJANI PETITION ON KHOJALY

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 26, ARMENPRESS. The efforts of the Azerbaijani
diplomacy and lobbyists have again faced failure in Washington. The
White House has declined the Azerbaijani petition asking the U. S.

President to make an official statement on the Khojaly events. The
White House responded to the petition in the official website of the
White House initiated by the Azerbaijani state propaganda machine,
which was aimed to extort official statement from the U. S. President
regarding the Azerbaijani version of the Khojaly events and Nagorno
Karabakh conflict. Essentially this is a crushing blow to Azerbaijan.

As reports “Armenpress” despite the huge sums and administrative means,
direct involvement of the state, statements of the Azerbaijani higher
officials, diplomats, and lobbyists, the White House underlined that
the President will not make any statement, and urged the sides to
focus their efforts on the peaceful regulation of the conflict. In
particular it was stated that the White House is terribly sorry for
the tragic human casualties during the war. Among other things it was
stated: “It reminds us that there cannot be a military solution to
the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and that only a lasting and peaceful
settlement can bring stability, prosperity, and reconciliation to the
region. As a Co-Chair of the Minsk Group, the United States remains
firmly committed to working with all sides to achieve peace.”

QUAND ISRAEL ARME LA TURQUIE

Ils n’entretenaient plus de relations diplomatiques depuis un an
et demi. Depuis qu’un rapport des Nations unies a exonere Israël
de toute responsabilite dans l’affaire du Mavi Marmara. Ce navire,
affrete par quelque 600 militants humanitaires pour contourner
le blocus de Gaza, avait ete pris d’assaut le 31 mai 2010 par un
commando israelien, faisant neuf morts turcs. La Turquie, qui a depuis
expulse l’ambassadeur israelien a Ankara, demande a Israël des excuses
officielles, une indemnisation pour les familles des victimes et la
levee du blocus de Gaza.

PUBLICATION D’UN LIVRE SUR L’HISTOIRE DE LA LANGUE ARMENIENNE EN IRAN

Emilia Nercissians a ecrit un nouveau livre intitule ” ”
l’anthropologie de l’education ” dans lequel elle realise une etude
interdisciplinaire de l’anthropologie et de la linguistique de
l’histoire et de la sociologie de la langue armenienne.

Emilia Nercissians a declare que le livre est un travail base sur les
bibliothèques de recherche interdisciplinaire avec un travail sur la
fondation educative, linguistique et sociologique de la langue dans
la communaute armenienne.

Elle a poursuivi en disant que la societe armenienne etait vide de
tout gouvernement central qui programme et poursuit l’education de la
langue de facon systematique. Cependant, les elites armeniennes et
les beaux esprits ont reussi a mettre en place un système normalise
d’enseignement de la langue et de l’enseigner aux illettres.

Ne en 1953, Emilia Nercissians est titulaire d’un doctorat en
sociologie de l’education de l’Universite americain. Elle est
professeure agregee a l’Universite de Teheran et a deja ecrit plusieurs
livres dans son domaine d’etudes.

LES ” VOLONTAIRES ARMENIENS 1914-1916 “, UN ALBUM-PHOTO DATANT DE 1916, TEMOIGNAGE SUR LE GENOCIDE ARMENIEN EN COURS

Le livre ” Volontaires Armeniens 1914-1916 ” paru aux editions
La Bouquinerie de Valence est un album-photo de temoignages du
genocide armenien en cours. Ce livre majeur, sorti en 1916 a Petrograd
(Russie) et qui connut plusieurs reeditions etait epuise depuis fort
longtemps…etait meme inconnu des bibliothèques de la planète.

L’editeur Rene Adjemian (qui signe la preface) ne se trompe pas : cet
ouvrage est une mine de documents pour comprendre le drame en cours
en Armenie turque. Cette reedition tombe donc a pic pour accuser une
nouvelle fois la Turquie et affirmer que les volontaires Armeniens
etaient venus au secours de la population civile armenienne qui
subissait un veritable genocide de la part du gouvernement Jeune-Turc.

L’existence des volontaires Armeniens n’etant qu’une reaction de
defense pour sauver une partie de la population armenienne de l’Empire
ottoman de l’aneantissement total. D’ailleurs, les faibles moyens
des Armeniens (armes ou canons recuperees sur les troupes turques
ou fabriquees de facon artisanale) prouvent que les volontaires ou
fedayis Armeniens n’avaient pour seule arme que leur courage face a
une armee turque regulière massacrant la population civile armenienne.

La defense de Van par les resistants Armeniens Cet album-photo
represente un dossier important a verser dans la documentation
sur le genocide armenien car ces images furent publiees en 1916,
c’est-a-dire lors de l’accomplissement du genocide armenien
(1915-1923). Ces documents sont donc d’epoque et Ankara ne pourra y
apporter un quelconque argument semant le doute. Le negationnisme
de l’Etat turc est ainsi porte a rude epreuve par ces images de
l’autodefense des Armeniens face a l’agression turque qui devait
aboutir a l’aneantissement de 1,5 millions d’Armeniens.

Les combattants Armeniens traversent la frontière entre l’Armenie
orientale et l’Armenie occidentale ” Volontaires Armeniens ” propose
plus de 120 photographies des volontaires Armeniens au front avec des
resistants et heros tels que le general Andranik, commandant du 1er
corps de volontaires Armeniens, les fedaïs (combattants armeniens)
ou heros tels que Sembat, Nikol, Avo, Khetcho, Hamazasp, et des
dizaines de personnages qui ont marque l’histoire armenienne du debut
du XXe siècle. Des images-temoignages egalement de la resistance des
Armeniens a Van, Bitlis ou Kars. Des scènes marquantes comme celle des
” prisonniers Kurdes “, la traversee de la rivière Zanghi par le corps
de Hamazasp et l’entree de ses troupes a Etchmiadzine, les tranchees de
Van, la benediction des volontaires ou l’enterrement des fedaïs. Des
images-temoignages qui marquent le regard completees par des textes
explicatifs en francais, armenien et russe. Dans la preface de cet
ouvrage, Rene Adjemian ecrit ” Depuis quelques decennies, j’edite
principalement des livres sur ma region l’Ardèche et la Drôme avec plus
de 300 ouvrages publies et un seul titre sur mon pays (David Vinson,
Les Armeniens dans les recits de voyageurs francais au XIXe siècle,
(1796-1895). Histoire et voyage & Histoires de voyages. Le Francais,
l’Orient & l’Armenien au XIXe siècle). L’occasion etait trop belle
d’ajouter une page de notre histoire. Mon ami Krikor Amirzayan,
journaliste-caricaturiste et president de l’association culturelle ”
Armenia ” qui chaque annee me donne quelques pages a publier sur les
Armeniens de Drôme-Ardèche dans mon Almanach, s’enthousiasma tout de
suite pour ce projet et vous pourrez lire son etude si pertinente dans
la postface en fin connaisseur de l’Armenie et de son histoire. Ses
yeux brillaient et il s’exclamait en tournant les pages, me disant :
” Tu as la un tresor, je ne connais pas cette photo, ni celle la…,
c’est incroyable !”

J’espère que vos yeux brilleront quelques instants sur ces images
qui sont autant de temoignages sur l’Histoire d’un peuple vivant une
tragedie : celle du genocide qui etait en cours en Armenie. C’est
peut-etre aussi grâce a ces hommes heroïques que le peuple armenien
ne fut pas totalement aneanti et donna quelques annees plus tard
a la naissance de la Republique d’Armenie. Tel le mythique phenix,
l’Armenie renaissait de ces cendres par la magie de ces hommes qui
n’avaient qu’une devise ” la liberte ou la mort ! “.

UN OBUS EST TOMBE TOUT PRES DU CLUB ARMENIEN HOMENMEN A DAMAS OU DES DIZAINES D’ARMENIENS ETAIENT REUNIS

Le 24 fevrier un obus tombait sur le qu’atrier chretien Bab Touma de
Damas atteignant l’eglise Santa Rita qui se trouve tout près du club
armenien Homenmen du Parti Hentchakian. Par chance, l’obus n’a pas
endommage le club armenien où etaient reunis de nombreux Armeniens
pour le ” hokehankist ” (paix de l’âme) d’une armenienne tuee dans
les bombardements des derniers jours. Les quartiers armeniens de
Damas sont epargnes par les attaques. Exceptes les tirs provenant
probablement des rebelles qui atteignent quelquefois les quartiers
chretiens de Damas où vivent des Armeniens. Damas comptant une
communaute armenienne evaluee a près de 8 000 membres.

ARMENIA: GIANLUCA, SOPHIE AND NODI TO PERFORM AT ARMENIAN FINAL

ARMTV, the Armenian national broadcaster has informed esctoday.com
that the 2013 Eurovision representatives of Malta and Georgia will be
performing at the forthcoming Armenian 2013 Eurovision Song Selection
show on Saturday 2 March.

Gianluca, the 2013 Maltese representative, and Sophie and Nodi,
the 2013 Georgian Eurovision representatives, will be gracing the
2013 Armenian Eurovision national song selection show and will be
treating the Armenian audience with their Eurovision entries. ARMTV
has some surprises in store for next Saturday’s show which will be
revealed in due course.

Last January Armenia revealed that Gor Sujyan had been selected via an
internal selection to represent Armenia at the forthcoming Eurovision
Song Contest. Gor is the lead singer of the internationally acclaimed
Armenian band The Dorians.

The Armenian broadcaster has revealed further details regarding their
Eurovision song selection final: the number of songs competing in the
show is yet to announced. Gor Sujyan, the 2013 Armenian representative
will be accompanied on stage with his band on stage with his band The
Dorians. It is yet unclear if his band The Dorians will fly to Malmo
with him, this will depend on the winning entry next Saturday, as the
band will be performing some of the competing entries along with Gor.

The 2013 Armenian entry will be selected via a 50/50 jury-televoting
deliberation.

It was reported last week that the Armenian broadcaster received
over 70 submission for the song to represent the country. Many came
from abroad, but the Armenian TV spokesperson is reported as saying
the better quality songs came from Armenia. The names of the authors
will be kept secret until the end of the national final.

The show will be aired live on ARMTV C1, ARMTV C1 (via satellite
Hotbird) and will be streamed live on the official website of ARMTV
and on the official website of the Eurovision Song Contest at around
18.30 CET (provisional scheduled time), just after the evening news
on Saturday 2 March.

Armenia debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006 and is yet
to win the event. The country’s best placing at the Eurovision Song
Contest was in 2008 with Sirusho’s Qele qele.

‘The new government makes Georgia dependent on Russia, it’s very
dangerous’

Baku-APA. ‘Policy of the new government allows Kremlin influencing
Georgia,’ Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said in his interview
to the first channel of Public Television, APA reports: “One of such
leverages is the probability of tension in Javakheti, where majority
of residents are ethnic Armenians”.

Saakashvili noted that one of the leverages is the suspension of the
construction of hydropower stations in Georgia: “The new government
makes Georgia dependent on Russian energy”.

The second leverage is connected with trade. He thinks that selection
of Russian market as a priority is very dangerous for Georgia and
this one day can give a chance to Russia to destroy Georgian economy.

The third leverage is the restoration of railway in Abkhazia.

Saakashvili noted that though the talks are being held, the works
for restoration of the road have already started.

The fourth leverage is Javakheti. The president thinks that the
situation may become aggravated in this region: “Javakheti is now
hostage, while earlier the hostages were Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

If you allow Russia cut power, destroy our economy, close our way
to Europe, then Georgia can become a country under the provincial
dictatorship. Without democracy, pluralism, free mass media, judicial
independence, our country will not strive for Europe. There will be
just one direction – Russia…”.

Saakashvili noted that he does not want to dismiss Ivanishvili’s
government using his authority: “Am I so inexperienced to make these
people heroes? Then they would say that they tried to do something
for people, but Saakashvili did not allow them”.
