Tigran Abrahamian: Azerbaijan’s proposal cannot be taken seriously

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov recently declared that
his country is `ready to sign a great peace agreement on the Nagorno
Karabakh conflict’.

In this connection the expert Tigran Abrahamian wrote on his blog: `At
first glance, it may appear that Azerbaijan is taking a `step
forward’, agreeing to make progress in the negotiating process, but in
reality the statement contradicts the logic of the negotiating process
and is a sham one.

Azerbaijan proposes bypassing the first stage of the negotiating
process, which presupposes reaching an agreement on the fundamental
principles, and immediately launching the second round of the
negotiations.

For the second year, Baku tries to consign to oblivion its steps aimed
at torpedoing the meeting in Kazan on 24 June 2011 when the sides were
to reach an agreement on the fundamental principles. At that meeting,
Azerbaijan – against all expectations – withheld its consent and made
10 additional proposals. Azerbaijan not only ruined the work done by
the Co-chairs for a long time, but also delivered a blow to the whole
negotiating process by its destructive actions.

Following the Kazan meeting, it is not the first time that Azerbaijan
tries to put forward new `initiatives’, which are not taken seriously
by the Co-chairs for the reason that everybody understands – without
reconciling the principles that form the basis of the negotiating
process, it is impossible to start the development of a great peace
agreement. Besides, without official Stepanakert’s consent, the sides
may not launch the next round of the negotiations, in which the direct
participation of the NKR is anticipated’.

“Today marks the day, 98 years ago, when more than 300 Armenian
leaders were taken from their homes, arrested and systematically
executed. They were the first massacred in a genocide that would leave
1.5 million innocent men, women and children dead, families broken,
and few survivors. Generations later, families of the victims and
survivors, cannot and will not forget those who were lost and the
families that never came to be, when everything changed on that
fateful day.

I join the Armenian community in my district and around the world in a
moment of reflection as we pay tribute to the victims and survivors of
this horrific genocide that took place not even a century ago. Across
this nation and the world, we share a common humanity, union and
strength that continues to serve us. The memory of the dead and the
legacy of those who survived will forever remain etched in our hearts.
I am inspired by the strength of the Armenian people, so many of whose
lives have been touched by tragedy but have persevered and resolved to

Congressmen and Co-Chairs of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian
Issues Frank Pallone Jr. and Michael Grimm observed the 98th
Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide with other members of Congress on
Tuesday, April 24, 2013.

Pallone and Grimm, with members of the Congressional Caucus on Armenia
Issues, affirmed their commitment to fight for official Congressional
recognition of the Armenian Genocide and announced a renewed campaign
for membership into the caucus.

“Today is an opportunity for us to remember one and a half million
victims of the Armenian Genocide and to condemn the continued denial
by the Turkish government and our own government’s inaction in using
the word genocide to describe these events. It is time for the United
States government to do the right thing, the moral thing and recognize
the Armenian Genocide for just that-genocide. While the wheels of
democracy may move slowly, they continue to move, and I will continue
to fight for issues that are important to the Armenian community.”
said Pallone.

“I am proud to join with my colleagues on this somber day in
commemorating the 98th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. So much

unapologetically stand up for justice and human rights throughout the

Joined by 23 of their colleagues, the Co-Chairs called for support for
Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh through robust foreign assistance in a
letter this month to the House Appropriations Committee.

Tsarnaev’s friend native of Azerbaijan

FBI has revealed that they identified Misha, a friend of Tamerlan
Tsarnaev, CNN reported quoting its sources.

According to the reports, he had major influence on Tamerlan which
brought to his radicalization. Misha is said to be a man in his 30s
with red beard, The Daily Mailreported.

Earlier, during a press conference, the parents of Tsarnaev brothers
said Russian-speaking Misha is a native of Baku, Azerbaijan. His
brother Sergei is a professor of history. Their mother said `this nice
man’ was in their house. However, Tsarnaev’s parents said they did not
know his last name.

Iranian website: While Aliyev speaks about Islamic unity, Azerbaijani
pro-hijab activists are sentenced to 11 years in prison

While Ilham Aliyev speaks about Islamic unity, more than 200 clerics
have been jailed with false accusations in Azerbaijan, says an article
in Arannews.ir.

According to the Iranian website, during a meeting with Labor
Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member
states, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev voiced concern about the
fact that pressure is used against Islam in some countries.

Ilham Aliyev called representatives of OIC member states for Islamic
unity, thanked them for supporting Azerbaijan in Karabakh issue and
added, `Some forces deliberately voice negative opinions about Islam
and then begin a huge fight against Islam. And we should give a strong
response to that fight.’

`While the Azerbaijani President speaks about Islamic unity, he
recently destroyed several mosques, banned hijab in schools, jailed
more than 200 clerics with false accusations and sentenced pro-hijab
activists to 11 years in prison,’ the article says.

Children in Armenian border village dream of peace (photos)

It’s about 20 years a big family in Nerkin Karmiraghbyur, a border
village in Armenia’s Tavush region, has been living in a in a dingy
house, deprived of minimal living standards.

But the Petrosyans do not complain of life and say they are relying
only on themselves. The house was built in 1994, during the
Nagorno-Karabakh war that also saw Armenia’s border villages and towns
coming periodically under the enemy’s gun attacks. The family has been
living there ever since and raised three children.

`My father-in-law’s house was leveled during the shootouts, and this
part of the village was then the safest place,’ says the 43-year-old
mother of the family, Sargyul Hakobyan. `In May 1994 this house was
built in soil; we married in August, and live here.’

The house in which the spouses stay with parents and three children is
divided into three parts – a bedroom with three beds for the children
and the couple. The other part is a sitting room, which has only one
sofa, a table and a fireplace. And the front part is a kitchen
protected by wooden boards.

All the three children – two daughters and a son – are secondary
school students.

`My elder daughter is very industrious but not quite smart. My son is
smart but not hard-working at all. My youngest daughter is both clever
and hard-working, so we’ll see what she will make,’ the mother says,
smiling.

The son, Alik, dreams to become a sportsman. He has chosen karate and
wishes very much that the village have a dance group where he could
attend dancing classes.

The only dream of those children, who grow up in such shabby
conditions, is to live in a peaceful county.

`Yes, our house is in a gorge; this is a safe place, but once the
shootouts begin, we grow sad too, sitting silently and waiting till
they are over,’ says Alik, 9.

The mother says it is two years they haven’t cultivated their vineyard
which is 400 meters far from the border.

`There was a desert near the house; we cleaned it and made it a yard.
We had arable land and keep cattle – a cow, a pig and a hen. I do not
complain. We work and live. The children help us a lot. We rely on
ourselves,’ adds the resident of the border village.

Le BDP exhorte le Parlement turc à enquêter sur le génocide de 1915

Idris Baluken vice-président du parti de la Paix et Démocratie (BDP) a
soumis une proposition au Parlement turc afin d’ouvrir une enquête sur
le génocide arménien de 1915 et d’ouvrir les archives afin de «
découvrir la vérité et mettre l’accent sur les souffrances ».

Rappelant que des discussions sont en cours sur ce qui s’est passé
lors de la déportation des Arméniens et les atrocités commises et que
plusieurs pays ont reconnu l’acte de massacres comme un génocide, la
proposition continue : « Sans mesures prises pour faire face et
rechercher la vérité, ce type de la souffrance sera toujours utilisé
».

La proposition a souligné que faire face à l’histoire et révéler la
vérité aideront à améliorer une vie meilleure à l’avenir.

Le point important de la proposition est que « L’impasse politique que
la République de Turquie connaît sur la question sera résolue qu’en
faisant face à ses conséquences. Partant de cela, une enquête
parlementaire approfondie est nécessaire afin de découvrir la vérité
derrière les incidents de 1915. Nous proposons d’ouvrir une enquête
parlementaire visant à ouvrir les archives, analyser les décisions
politiques connexes, faire la lumière sur la vérité qui est restée
dans la mémoire collective et analyser les documents internationaux
dans le but de découvrir la vérité, mettre l’accent sur les
souffrances et faire face à la vérité ».

Le Parti pour la paix et la démocratie ou BDP (BarıÅ? ve Demokrasi
Partisi) est un parti politique de Turquie. Ses coprésidents sont
Hamit Geylani et Filiz Koçali. Il milite pour la résolution de la
question kurde, les Droits des femmes, l’écologie et l’instauration
d’une société démocratique en Turquie. Le BDP représente le PKK dans
le parlement turc.

La Turquie condamne les propos de Vincent Peillon sur le génocide arménien

Le ministère turc des Affaires étrangères a rejeté vendredi les
remarques du ministre français de l’Education Vincent Peillon qu’il a
faites lors d’un rassemblement à Paris mercredi.

Le ministère turc des Affaires étrangères a déclaré dans un communiqué
qu’il a fermement condamné les propos de Peillon qui a qualifié de
génocide les incidents de 1915 dans l’Empire ottoman.

`Il est encore plus regrettable que de tels propos dénigrant
injustement notre histoire et fomentent la haine ont été faites par un
membre du gouvernement chargé de l’enseignement` indique le
communiqué.

L’Azerbaïdjan émet une monnaie de 1 kg d’or à l’effigie de Heydar Aliev

Au pays des dictateurs du clan Aliev, les Aliéveries n’ont pas de
limite ! La Banque Centrale d’Azerbaïdjan a procédé à l’occasion du
90e anniversaire de Heydar Aliev l’ex-président d’Azerbaïdjan et père
de l’actuel (transmission patriarcale), à l’émission de pi-ces de
monnaies commémoratives. Selon Elmar Roustamov le président de la
Banque Centrale d’Azerbaïdjan -et membre du clan Aliev bien
évidemment- a fièrement présenté les pièces de monnaie à l’effigie de
Heydar Aliev. Ces pièces d’or dont la frappe totale effectuée en
Grande Bretagne en 3 000 exemplaires ont trois poids différents. Elles
sont de 31,1 grammes, 310,1 grammes et…1 kilogramme…Présentées
comme étant des pièces « de grande qualité », ces monnaies sur
lesquelles brillent Heydar Aliev, sont inévitablement également de
grands prix…Summum du culte de la personnalité. L’Azerbaïdjan
n’étant pas dans ce répertoire très loin de la Corée du Nord, deux
dictatures dont les pères-fondateurs disparus sur terre sont devenus
des demi-Dieux… En Azerbaïdjan les rues, boulevards, places ou parcs
publics qui portent le nom de Heydar Aliev se comptent par centaines.
Un juste retour du fils Ilham Aliev qui doit beaucoup à son père, si
ce n’est pas tout. L’Azerbaïdjan compte également plus de 70 musées et
des dizaines de Centres culturels dédiés à Heydar Aliev. Dans les
livres scolaires d’Azerbaïdjan, Heydar Aliev est surnommé du titre de
« Sauveur de l’Azerbaïdjan » ou « Guide Suprême ». L’Azerbaïdjan est
si fière du produit « Heydar Aliev » qu’elle en exporta deux de ses
statues, l’une au Canada et l’autre au Mexique…mais malheureusement
pour le clan Aliev et heureusement pour l’humanité et la démocratie,
les deux statues furent rapidement déboulonnées…

La Hongrie n’est pas prête à faire des excuses à l’Arménie dans
l’Affaire Safarov selon le site hongrois « Hu-lala »

Le site de Hu-lala () qui déclare en en-tête que «
l’actu hongroise est plus piquante en français » consacré le 26 avril
sous la signature de Nicolas Gidaszewski un article titré « Diplomatie
: l’Arménie tend la main à la Hongrie ».

Sous une photo Hu-lala titre « Budapest, mardi 4 septembre : Viktor
Orban a vendu son honneur et celui de son pays avec, selon plusieurs
milliers de manifestants qui ont réclamé la démission du 1er ministre,
devant le parlement à Budapest mardi soir. La manifestation de soutien
à l’Arménie et contre la décision du gouvernement hongrois d’extrader
un meurtrier vers l’Azerbaïdjan a été organisée par le collectif

L’article qui relate la rupture des relations diplomatiques
arméno-hongroises qui firent suite à l’Affaire Safarov écrit «
L’Arménie serait prête à reprendre ses relations diplomatiques avec la
Hongrie, a affirmé la semaine dernière le ministre des Affaires
étrangères arménien, Edouard Nalbandian lors d’une conférence de
presse tenue à Erevan pour la venue du secrétaire général du conseil
de l’Europe, Jagland Thorbjørn. Le gouvernement arménien attend
néanmoins que Budapest fasse « un pas » dans le sens de la concorde.

En septembre dernier, l’Arménie avait rompu ses relations
diplomatiques avec la Hongrie à la suite de la décision du
gouvernement magyar d’extrader le criminel Ramil Safarov Sahib vers
l’Azerbaïdjan, son pays d’origine. Ce dernier, condamné à perpétuité
par la justice hongroise pour le meurtre d’un officier arménien, avait
été immédiatement gracié et accueilli en héros à son arrivée a Bakou.

L’Arménie, en conflit « gelé » avec l’Azerbaïdjan au sujet de la
région du Haut-Karabakh avait alors crié au complot accusant la
Hongrie de connaitre à l’avance le sort réservé à Safarov lors de son
extradition. Le gouvernement hongrois a toujours nié en bloc ses
allégations bien que plusieurs éléments tendent à confirmer le
bien-fondé de la thèse arménienne. Quelques jours après le début de
l’affaire en septembre, le premier ministre Viktor Orban, semblait
d’ailleurs ne pas vouloir s’éterniser sur ce dossier. « L’affaire, qui
ne mérite pas tant de bruit, est close, n’en parlons plus », a-t-il
déclaré

Aujourd’hui, huit jours après la déclaration d’Edward Nalbandian, le
mutisme d’Orban n’a pas changé. Parfois considéré comme « le vilain
petit canard de l’Union Européenne », il n’a sans doute pas envie de
voir revenir l’encombrante question arménienne dans la sphère
médiatique. Il n’est donc pas certain que le gouvernement hongrois
voie d’un bon `il cette « main tendue » par Erevan. De plus, au
souvenir des propos véhéments du président arménien, Serge Sarkissian,
en septembre dernier (« Ni le peuple arménien, ni moi-même ne pouvons
accepter cette décision. Le peuple arménien ne le pardonnera pas »),
il semblerait que ce « pas » vers la concorde ne puisse être pour
Erevan ni plus ni moins que des excuses publiques de la Hongrie.
S’estimant de bonne foi sur la question, Viktor Orban n’a pas l’air de
vouloir se plier à la volonté du gouvernement arménien. Les excuses
devraient attendre, tout comme la réconciliation entre les deux pays
».

L’article ci-dessous met malheureusement une nouvelle fois en évidence
l’attitude scandaleuse du Premier ministre Victor Orban qui donne une
bien mauvaise image de la Hongrie…
