“WE SHOULD RESPECT THE CENTRAL ROLE OF THE ARMENIAN MOTHER IN THE FAMILY”,
SAID HIS HOLINESS ARAM I

As part of the celebrative events of 2013, Year of the Armenian Mother,
around 200 women met with His Holiness Aram I. After his warm welcome, the
Catholicos said, “Celebrating the year of the Armenian Mother should become
integral to our daily lives. The Armenian mother is the foundation of our
nation and, hence, should remain the essential partner in family and public
life. We expect our mothers to socialize our children through the spiritual
values of our church, the cultural heritage imparted through our schools and
community organizations.” His Holiness Aram I concluded his message with a

THE PROJECT “NEW CILICIA” VILLAGE OF THE CATHOLICOSATE OF CILICIA
INAUGURATED IN ARTZAKH (KARABAGH)

On 11 May a delegation representing the Catholicosate of Cilicia left for
Artzakh to inaugurate the “New Cilicia” village, a recently renovated
intermediary school and 32 houses for young families and widows of the war.
The repopulation of the village is a joint project between the government of
Artzakh and the Catholicosate of Cilicia.

The seven-person delegation included Archbishops Sebouh Sarkissian (Prelate
of Iran), Moushegh Mardirossian (Western Prelacy, USA), Bishop Papken
Charian (Prelate of Isphahan), Messrs. Ara Demirdjian and Vahé Yakoubian
(Members of the National Council of the Catholicosate), Mr. Yervant
Papakhanian (representing the Diocese of Tehran), and Mr. Khatchik Dedeyan
(Chancellor of the Catholicosate). Upon its arrival the delegation met with
the President of the Republic of Artzakh, Pago Sahakian. After receiving the
good wishes and blessings of His Holiness Aram I, the president thanked the
Catholicos and hoped that the cooperation to repopulate the “New Cilicia”
village will continue”.

The delegation then left for “New Cilicia,” accompanied by the Prime
Minister, Ara Haroutunian. At the village the mayor, the director of the
school and the residents met the visitors. After inaugurating the school,
the delegation presented a Letter of Blessings from Catholicos Aram I. In
his letter the Catholicos wrote, “Karabagh regained its independence because
of the sacrifice of our people. Sustaining this young Republic is a major
responsibility and requires careful planning. The current projects of the
Catholicosate of Cilicia reflect its commitment to strengthening Karabagh.”

After the speeches of the prime minister, the mayor of “Cilicia Village” and
the director of the school, the delegation announced the decision of the
Catholicosate of Cilicia to continue its cooperation with the government by

bande criminelle organisée”, a déclaré Me Fethiye Cetin.

Ligue 2 – Nantes: Der Zakarian réécrit l’Histoire

Ligue 2 – Nantes: Der Zakarian réécrit l’Histoire

UN: Azerbaijan violates embargo on trade in arms with North Korea

UN: Azerbaijan violates embargo on trade in arms with North Korea

20:25 20/05/2013 » REGION

The UN report accuses Azerbaijan of violating the embargo on trade in
arms with North Korea. The report is prepared by the panel on
monitoring sanctions against North Korea of the UN Security Council,
the agency of “Ruskor” reports by the reference to `Associated Press’.

The report says that, `The panel also recommended sanctions against
the Hesong Trading Corporation, a subsidiary of the Korea Mining
Development Trading Corp., which was involved in trying to sell 70
North Korean portable anti-aircraft missiles to Azerbaijan. British
arms dealer Michael Ranger was convicted in July 2012 of attempting to
sell the missiles, and the panel also recommended that the U.N. put
his primary contact at Hesong, O Hak-Chol, on the sanctions list.

“There is an e-mail correspondence with his arms supplier in North
Korea. Ranger boasted that he was a guest of the Azerbaijani
government, where he was taken around by a prestigious limousine at
the time of the visit, while he was discussing the procurement of
missiles. He also told the American producer of pistols Berettas, that
in February 2010 he had received orders from the Ministry of Emergency
Situations of Azerbaijan after meeting with “two people who were
directly working with the president.” This confirms Ranger’s intention
to break the embargo,” in the material states.

The UN report also point out a citizen of Kazakhstan who was involved
in supplying arms to North Korea. The panel said it had closed its
investigation into Thailand’s seizure of an arms shipment from a plane
originating in North Korea in 2009 that was valued at over US$ 16
million. It recommended sanctions against Alexander Zykov of
Kazakhstan and Ukrainians Iurii Lunov and Igor Karev-Popov, who were
involved in the arms transfer.

Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry reacted on this information: “We have
noticed in media reports information about the possible involvement of
a citizen of Kazakhstan in violation of international sanctions
against North Korea. We would like to note that this information is
not confirmed. We would like to add that Kazakhstan has always
supported and supports the policy of non-proliferation of arms and is
always open for cooperation,” said the spokesman of the Ministry
Nurjan Aytmahanov.

Zykov also personally responded to media reports: “I have the
documents proving my non-participation in this story and my innocence.
I reiterate: I have no relation with this scandal! In the end, I have
the right to defend my honor and dignity. If you insist that such a
thing happened, I will have to go to court,” said Zykov in an
interview with “Vremya” on May 16.

He said that he does not work in aviation anymore. “I stopped aviation
business after the incident in Thailand. I will not deny that the
incident in Thailand has forced me to switch on to another activity.
This has undermined my nerves and knocked me out of the rut, but now
all that is left in the past. At least, I thought that it was left in
the past,” Zykov said.

There is no information about the reaction of the Azerbaijani Foreign
Ministry on this matter.

Iran Begins Production of New Mobile Air Defense System

Iran Begins Production of New Mobile Air Defense System

13:24 | 2013-05-20

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian Defense Ministry on Monday started
mass-production of a highly mobile home-made air-defense system.

The production line of the new system, Herz (Protector) 9, was
inaugurated in a special ceremony attended by the country’s Defense
Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi on the occasion of the
liberation of Khorramshahr city from Iraqi occupation during the
eight-year Iraqi imposed war in the 1980s.

Addressing the ceremony, Vahidi said that the system which has been
designed and developed by Iranian experts at the Defense Industries
Organization is a “sophisticated smart air-defense system and is
capable of detecting, identifying and intercepting low-altitude
targets through automatic controls”.

He said that the system enjoys high mobility and night operation
capability and can be connected to the country’s integrated
air-defense network.

The Iranian Armed Forces have recently test-fired different types of
newly-developed missiles and torpedoes and tested a large number of
its home-made weapons, tools and equipments, including submarines,
military ships, artillery, choppers, aircraft, UAVs and air defense
and electronic systems, during massive military drills.

Defense analysts and military observers say that Iran’s wargames and
its advancements in weapons production have proved as a deterrent
factor, specially at a time of heightened threats by the US.

ISTANBUL: Where did these Turks pop up from?

Today’s Zaman, Turkey

Where did these Turks pop up from?

20 May 2013 / ADEM YAVUZ ARSLAN, BUGÜN

The Anatolian Cultures and Food Festival held in LA is certainly a
success in many aspects. The fairground, which covers 55 hectares, is
like a microcosm of all of Turkey. Someone who has never seen Turkey
and knows nothing about the country whatsoever got to know quite a lot
about our country by touring the festival.

The replicas of Turkey’s popular sites and performances by the Ottoman
Janissary Band and whirling dervishes deserve appreciation. But I
think what makes this event unique is the idea behind it. Whether you
accept it or not, the US is the center of the world, and if you have
something to say or some richness to show, you have to do it there.
And the fact that the Armenian lobby, which opposed the festival in
the past, supported the event is the biggest evidence of its success.

Heydar Aliyev and Armenian Flag Make Joint Appearance

EurasiaNet.org, NY
May 20 2013

Heydar Aliyev and Armenian Flag Make Joint Appearance

Tbilisi’s Old Town has long been an area where ethnic Armenians,
Azeris, Jews, Kurds, and Georgians intermingle.

There’s the Azeri teahouse run by ethnic Armenians on one street, and,
on another, one run by ethnic Azeris, where an ethnic Armenian
waitress serves customers.

A mosque frequented mainly by ethnic Azeri Muslims sits atop a hill
just a few minutes away from an Armenian church where Sayat Nova, the
18th century troubadour who wrote songs and poetry mainly in Azeri, is
buried.

A statue to Sergei Paradjanov, the surrealist ethnic Armenian
filmmaker whose last film was shot in Azerbaijan, stands just meters
away from a shisha café, staffed by ethnic Armenians from the Middle
East and often frequented by customers from Azerbaijan.

Home to sizable ethnic Azeri and Armenian populations, Georgia is
well-accustomed to such coexistence. But, nonetheless, that doesn’t
mean that awkward situations cannot occur.

Recently, for example, an Armenian flag appeared flying outside a
privately owned, neighborhood bathhouse that adjoins a park featuring
a bust of Heydar Aliyev, the late Azerbaijani president.

The flag was still flying until the eve of Azerbaijan’s May 10 Flower
Day celebration, an event to mark the birthday of the late president.
On the day itself, the flag reportedly disappeared. A day later, it
reappeared.

The juxtaposition, needless to say, is unusual. Aliyev, in office from
1993 until 2003, was Azerbaijan’s president when the war with Armenia
and Karabakhi separatists over the breakaway region of Nagorno
Karabakh ended with a cease-fire in 1994.

Precise reasons for the flag’s appearance, disappearance, and
reappearance could not be confirmed. The management of the bathhouse
that displays the flags was not available for comment. `They just
chose some international flags from somewhere,’ an employee commented,
with a shrug.

The Armenian flag appears alongside those of the United States,
Israel, European Union, and Georgia, at the end closest to the Heydar
Aliyev Park.

The Azerbaijani embassy to Tbilisi and the Georgian office of the
State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic, which maintains the
Heydar Aliyev Park, did not respond to requests for comment about the
flag’s appearance.

Reaction to the above photograph, posted on Facebook, was mixed, with
activists weary of the cult of personality surrounding Aliyev sharing
the image, while others alleged Photoshop manipulation.

But sources familiar with the circumstances claim that the Azerbaijani
ambassador to Tbilisi personally visited the owners of the baths to
request that the Armenian flag be taken down.

An Azerbaijani TV crew also apparently visited the Heydar Aliyev Park
to film the bust and the offending flag, but allegedly was denied
permission to do so.

When the flag reappeared, the Azerbaijani ambassador, reportedly
furious, made another visit to the bathhouse, the sources claimed.

The bathhouse employee, who did not give his name, denied that the
facility’s Armenian flag had caused any controversy.

But given increasing tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan, they
might yet find that the potential for controversy is far from over.

Joint probe into Russia’s Eurovision votes `stolen’ in Azerbaijan

21/05 16:42 CET

Russia and Azerbaijan are joining forces to investigate a Eurovision
scandal that saw votes for Russia’s entry vanish.

Moscow’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has described as `outrageous’
the revelations by Azerbaijan that although its country’s voters had
put Dina Garipova’s ballad second, she got `nul points’ instead of
ten.

At a joint news conference in Moscow, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister
Elmar Mammadyarov spoke of his government’s `shock’ when the data was
published.

On Monday Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev ordered an inquiry. The
head of the country’s public broadcaster said he was `very worried and
surprised’ by the breakdown of the votes.

Eurovision fans in each of the 39 countries voted by text or phone and
their collective votes counted 50-50 with those of a professional
jury.

Russia’s ten `lost’ votes made no difference to the final outcome. Its
song came fifth, 17 points behind fourth-placed Norway.

"Do you know who I am? I am Prime Minister’s adviser."

“Do you know who I am? I am Prime Minister’s adviser.”

2013-05-21 13:16:14

The fate of the government’s program is in question. If tomorrow,
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan once again comes to Parliament, that
is, he did not put end to his life, then, it means that a miracle
happened, it was possible to make a superhuman effort and swallow an
insult to his address.

Here’s how all that began.

On the day of presentation of the government’s program for 2013- 2017,
Prime Minister was asked questions. The deputies were asking
questions, of course, because according to their brains and abilities.
Thus, the more valuable were the MPs’ questions, who understood
something in this case. Hrant Bagratyan, Artsvik Minasyan, Gurgen
Arsenyan, Michael Melkumian, Aghvan Vardanyan, Vahan Hovhannisyan …
many asked several questions. There were also, of course, questions,
comments with offensive emphasis. For example, Hrant Bagratyan
immediately said to Tigran Sargsyan that he was surprised at the
poverty of analytical skills of drafters of this program, in response
to which Prime Minister, very quietly, said that they were willing to
enrich the analytical skills with Hrant Bagratyan’s help.

Zaruhi Postanjyan also in her style asked the Prime Minister: “Why did
you come again…to cheat…?” But it was a series of “flowers.” The
climax was to come later. RPA MP Naira Karapetyan also decided to ask
a question. More precisely, she did not decide herself, but it was
decided to ask such a question, to voice it…

The deputy, with a straight face of lawmaker joined a queue and with a
very serious tone began to utter the given lesson (question concerned
the construction of a new nuclear power station), then in the same
position of examiner started listening to Premier’s report, then,
turned on the microphone for an answer, aaid, “I would advise you…
“.

The fact that the former Prime Minister Hrant Bagratyan can give the
incumbent Prime Minister advice, it is clear, moreover, even
desirable, such advice should be sought. But the fact that Hovik
Abrahamyan, Minasyan, Michael Melkumian can give the Prime Minister
advice… But tha fact that Tigran Sargsyan went so far, that already
Naira Karapetyan, who still stands only a short skirt and meddling,
even without having a clue, or at least a clue about the issues being
discussed and at the mention of whose name the colleagues are barely
holding their smile, gives him advice…
