Open Letter To RF Ambassador: Yuri Davtyan Fears For The Anti-Russia

OPEN LETTER TO RF AMBASSADOR: YURI DAVTYAN FEARS FOR THE ANTI-RUSSIAN HYSTERIA

July 22 2013

Doctor of Philological Sciences, the Dean of the Faculty of Philology
named after K. Aboyvan Yuri Davtyan sent an open letter to the
Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Armenia, Ivan Volinkin, and
extended condolences to the relatives of 18 victims, he felt sorry
for his compatriot to appear in the center of the incident. “It is
also pitiful for me that there were people among us who taking the
advantage of this opportunity did not see 18 innocent victims, but
just the hapless rob, and began to raise anti-Russian calls, trying
to cast a shadow on the Armenian-Russian friendship for centuries.

However, I am confident that the Armenian people are aware of the
value of friendship with the Russian people.” In the conversation
with Aravot.am, Yuri Davtyan once again mentions that he is extremely
concerned about the anti-Russian hysteria. “The current anti-Russian
mood for Armenia can have devastating effect. When Russia “gives up”
with Armenia, Armenia will vanish.” He is adding that we are talking
only about us. “Those 18 people that were deceased, what will their
relatives think about us?” Whether Hrachia Harutyunyan will be
imprisoned in Russia or Armenia. “The crime committer should take
the punishment in the country where the incident occurred.” There
are millions of Armenians, who take their punishment outdoors. The
attitude of Russian Court towards Hrachia Harutyunyan: “In our country
people are treated worse.” And at the end of the letter addressed to
the Ambassador it is written: “Please tell me know the account number
to which I can transfer a small amount of money to the relatives of
the victims for providing assistance.”

Demand For Pay: Nairit Employees Work, Then March, Then Wait

DEMAND FOR PAY: NAIRIT EMPLOYEES WORK, THEN MARCH, THEN WAIT

Employees of Yerevan’s Nairit rubber plant held another protest
Tuesday morning, demanding from the president to settle their salaries,
unpaid for almost a year, and again left after a promise to receive
a one-month salary.

More than 200 employees marched from their workplace to the
presidential residence, where trade union leader Hrach Tadevosyan
along with a few of his co-workers met the deputy head of the control
service and reached an agreement by which one month’s salary will be
paid end of July, and another month’s salary – end of August.

The only producer of chloroprene rubber in all of post-Soviet
territory, one of Armenia’s biggest economic entities Nairit, located
in a Yerevan suburb, has its 90 percent share owned by Rhinoville
Property Limited company, registered offshore since 2006. For three
years now it has not produced anything, with 1,500 of its 2,700
employees in lay-off. The company owes 11 months’ salary to its
employees, who hold protests once every few months demanding from
the president and the government to pay them their wages. The average
salary at Nairit is 157,000 drams (around $380), and the annual salary
fund totals to around $1 million.

Melikset Harutyunyan, Nairit employee since 2006, told ArmeniaNow that
they demand their wages and want to know what is going to happen to
the plant.

“They pay us our salaries only once in 2-3 months, nonetheless we keep
going to work, so we want to know what is going to happen after all?

Every 3-4 months some people come, supposedly to buy the plant, but
nothing changes. I suggest we put out tents in front of Nairit and hold
an indefinite sit-in, until the issue gets resolved,” says Harutyunyan.

For the past several months the government of Armenia has been
negotiating with Russian Rosneft oil company over the sale of Nairit,
but days ago information appeared in the press that the talks were
indefinitely suspended in July, because the company would agree to
purchase the plant only after it settles all its debts.

Head Of Yerevan Municipality’s Department Of Transportation Owns A B

HEAD OF YEREVAN MUNICIPALITY’S DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION OWNS A BUS ROUTE
Grisha Balasanyan

11:24, July 23, 2013

Henrik Navasardyan, who heads the Yerevan Municipality’s Department
of Transportation, is in fact the owner of No. 18 bus route in the
Armenian capital.

The route in question is operated by a company called Dyako-Art,
which is owned by the Navasardyan’s 22 year-old son Andranik. The
director of the company is another relative, Artak Navasardyan.

It doesn’t matter in whose name the route is being operated – it’s
a Navasardyan family enterprise.

Thus, it comes as no surprise that Henrik Navasardyan been the most
vocal government defender of the recent 50% hike in transit fares.

If the fare remains at 150 AMD, that’s a tidy revenue increase for
the family business.

Another son, Davit Navasardyan, owns a company called Motion Time,
which sells advertising space in public buses and other modes of
transport.

We tried to reach Henrik Navasardyan for comment but it appears that
the Yerevan Municipality has blocked all modes of communication to him.

Navasardyan’s office told us that we would have to go through
official channels before talking to him, advising us to contact the
Municipality’s Department of Information and Public Affairs

We did so but were told that all requests for an interview with
Navasardyan would have to be put in writing for review.

TENSE SITUATION ACROSS YEREVAN CITY HALL BUILDING (PHOTOS)

July 23, 2013 | 11:55

YEREVAN. – The members of the “We will not Pay 150 Drams” initiative
gathered Tuesday morning nearby the Armenian capital city Yerevan
Municipality (PHOTOS).

The police, however, do not allow the demonstrators to approach
the city hall building. But the protesters intend to approach the
municipality entrance.

The law enforcement already detained three picketers. Yerevan Deputy
Police Chief Valeri Osipyan told news reporters that the activists
had violated the public order.

In addition, the protesters want to carry out a march and call upon
people not to pay 150 drams (approx. $0.36)-instead of the previous
100 drams (approx. $0.24)-for using the public transport.

Incidentally, the journalists likewise will stage a protest at
noon nearby the municipality building. They demand the dismissal
of Municipality Transport Department Chief Henrik Navasardyan who,
instead of answering to a question that was posed to him by a news
reporter, he had cursed at the journalist.

Another demonstration is slated for 4pm in the vicinity of the Yerevan
Municipality. Until then, however, the activists will walk around the
city, and those joining the “We will not Pay 150 Drams” initiative
will continue to drive the commuters with their own vehicles, and at
no cost.
