Elman Mammadov Military doctrine as a document which is an integral
part of the concept of national security of the state has filled the
blanks in this sphere.

Deputy of Milli Majlis (parliament), member of the Azerbaijani
community of Karabakh Elman Mammadov said the military doctrine is an
excellent document to ensure protection and security of the state,
liberation of its lands from occupation, confrontation with some
separatist formations acting against the state.

‘Everyone has been looking forward this military doctrine for already
many years’, said Elman Mammadov.

He said there are a number of reasons hindering the adoption of this document.

‘This was related to some situations in the region of Azerbaijan.
There were such things that took time to be fixed in the military
doctrine’, said he.

According to Mammadov, the military doctrine satisfies him as an
excellent document.

‘I am sure that we based on the military doctrine and the document
preceding will free our lands from occupation’, he said.

‘I will not be surprised at Obama’s visiting Azerbaijan after Hillary Clinton’
Sat 12 June 2010 | 06:04 GMT Text size:

Zurab Kananchev The South Caucasus region has acquired a great
geostrategic importance for the United States.

The intensification of the mediation mission of Turkey, Russia and
even Iran in the issue of Karabakh force the United States also to
take steps in this direction, said official of the Research Center for
Central Asia, Caucasus and Ular-Volga of the Oriental Studies
Institute Zurab Kananchev.

I think the definite tensions in the relations between the United
States and Azerbaijan and delay in the appointment of the ambassador
and so on were caused only by the fact that the new administration of
the White House has developed an exact position on the problems of
this region including Azerbaijan especially because new US ambassador
in Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza is well familiar with the country, its
main problem Nagorno Karabakh and also the specification of the
region. This means that the US intensification on Azerbaijan is clear
and logical.

I will not be surprised if Barack Obama will also pay an official
visit to Azerbaijan after Hillary Clinton in the nearest future.

Pasadena ANC Continues Meeting with Local Political Leaders

Pasadena ANC Continues Meeting with Local Political Leaders

Friday, June 11th, 2010
by Asbarez

PASADENA – Leaders of the Pasadena Armenian National Committee discussed
a host of local issues, including the financial state of the city,
with Councilman Victor Gordo (District 5) on June 4.

The meeting is part of a comprehensive, year long plan, by the
Pasadena ANC to engage political and community leaders to ensure that
the Armenian American community’s interests are advanced and protected
in the City of Pasadena.

`Victor Gordo has been a strong and steady leader in the City of
Pasadena for nearly a decade,’ remarked Pasadena ANC Executive
Director Ishkhan Boghossian. `His work and collaboration with our
community over the years is appreciated and we look forward to
engaging him to ensure that our community is well represented on city
commissions and other municipal bodies,’ Boghossian added.

Among the issues discussed with Gordo is the state of the City of
Pasadena’s budget. As major stakeholders in the city, Armenian
Americans have a strong interest in the fiscal strength of the city
and its ability to deliver first class services to its residents. The
Pasadena ANC also conferred with Gordo on Pasadena’s General Plan and
how that will impact the future growth of the city for decades to
come. Gordo was also briefed on the new Armenian Center on Foothill
Boulevard, which is now home to local chapters of the Homenetmen,
Armenian Relief Society, Armenian Youth Federation, Armenian Cultural
Foundation, Hamazakyin and other important community organizations.

Over the course of the coming months, Councilman Gordo shared that he
looked forward to holding a town hall meeting with his Armenian
American constituents. The Pasadena ANC consistently encourages
political figures in the city and community leaders to reach out to
our community to better understand the needs and interests of
individuals and groups in our community. For example, many Armenian
Americans have shared in the past with public officials the need for
more open space in the city, so that their children can play in a safe
and secure environment. Fighting for quality of life issues like this
is an important part of the Pasadena ANC’s agenda.

Victor Gordo was born October 22, 1969, in Zacatecas, Mexico and
arrived in the United States at the age of five. Since arriving in the
United States he and his family have lived in Pasadena. Victor is a
proud product of the Pasadena Unified School District, having
graduated from Pasadena High School in 1987. He became the first
person in his family to attend college when he enrolled, first, at
Pasadena City College and, later, at Azusa Pacific University. He
began his service to Pasadena’s District 5 in 1997, when then Vice
Mayor Bill Crowfoot invited him to serve as Field Representative for
the district. Victor accepted the challenge and from 1997 to 2001 he
successfully handled many kinds of constituent issues, from problems
affecting a small number of people to citywide concerns, of key
importance to the Vice Mayor. In 2001, after receiving a law degree
from University of LaVerne, Gordo ran for the seat of his retiring
boss, and won.

The Pasadena ANC advocates for the social, economic, cultural, and
political rights of the area’s Armenian American community and
promotes increased Armenian American civic participation at the
grassroots and public policy levels.

Congressman Xavier Becerra Joins with Community Activists

Congressman Xavier Becerra Joins with Community Activists to Rally
Support For Armenian American Issues

Friday, June 11th, 2010
by Asbarez

LOS ANGELES – Representatives of the Armenian National Committee of
America – Hollywood (ANCA Hollywood) and Armenian National Committee
of America – Western Region (ANCA-WR) discussed Congressional
affirmation of the Armenian Genocide and a broad range of community
concerns during a meeting with Congressman Xavier Becerra (D-CA) at
his Echo Park district office earlier last week.

`Rep. Becerra’s efforts to engage the Armenian American community are
commendable,’ stated Paul Seradarian, ANCA Hollywood Board Vice-Chair
and 31st Congressional District constituent. `We look forward to
working with the Congressman on a variety of issues of concern to our
community, including efforts to bring an end to the cycle of genocide
and expand US- Armenia relations,’ he added.

Meeting attendees discussed Armenian American foreign aid priorities
in 2011, which include no less than $70 million in direct economic
assistance to Armenia, no less than $10 million in development aid to
Nagorno Karabagh, the enhancing Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act
and maintaining military aid parity between Armenia and Azerbaijan,
among others.

Attendees also expressed grave concern of the nomination of Deputy
Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Byrza for the post of U.S.
Ambassador to Azerbaijan and asked the Congressman to advocate for
close Senate scrutiny of the nomination. Following the Obama
Administration’s nomination of Bryza, the Armenian National Committee
of America (ANCA) has launched a nationwide campaign calling upon U.S.
Senators to carefully scrutinize his diplomatic record on issues
impacting U.S. interests and American values in the Caucasus,
Southeastern Europe, and the surrounding region. In August, 2009, ANCA
Chairman Ken Hachikian called specific attention to Bryza’s public
statements regarding a number of issues, including the application of
the flawed and one-sided Madrid Principles as the basis for the
resolution of the Nagorno Karabagh issue.

Becerra was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in
1992. The Congressman serves as Vice Chair of the House Democratic
Caucus and is a senior member of the powerful Committee on Ways and
Means. He was the first Latino to serve on the Ways and Means
Committee. Rep. Becerra currently serves on the Health, Oversight, and
Social Security subcommittees. He is also a member of the House
Committee on Budget, which oversees the federal budget process.

Located entirely in the City of Los Angeles, California’s 31st
Congressional District is home to a significant number of Armenian
Americans. The district includes all or parts of the neighborhoods of
Atwater Village, Eagle Rock, Echo Park, Garvanza, Glassell Park,
Highland Park, Hollywood, Jefferson Park, Koreatown, Lincoln Heights,
Mid City, Montecito Heights, Monterey Hills, Mount Washington, New
Chinatown, Pico Union, Silverlake, South Los Angeles, Vernon and
Westlake.

The Armenian National Committee – Western Region is the largest and
most influential Armenian American grassroots advocacy organization in
the Western United States. Working in coordination with a network of
offices, chapters, and supporters throughout the Western United States
and affiliated organizations around the country, the ANC-WR advances
the concerns of the Armenian American community on a broad range of
issues.

Premiere of `Aida’ Delayed

Premiere of `Aida’ Delayed

YEREVAN, JUNE 11, ARMENPRESS: The premier of `Aida’ opera by Verdi
intended in June in the National Opera and Ballet Academic Theater
after Al. Spendiaryan has been delayed. Conductor Harutyun Arzumanyan
told Armenpress that the rehearsals are over and only the clothes of
the participants and some accessories connected with decoration are
not yet ready. That is why the premiere of `Aida’ is delayed; it will
probably take place in autumn. The opera is staged with the support of
Armenia and Italy. It will consist of 4 actions.

J. Verdi has written his world famous opera in 1970 on the basis of an
Ancient Greek epos – `Aida’. The premiere of the opera was held
December 24, 1871 in Cairo. `Aida’ epos dates back to the epoch of
regular collisions between ancient Egyptian pharaohs and Nubi tribe.
It is a splendid example of love and devotion, which touches upon love
toward the homeland, parents and clashes for them.

About 7 Thousand People Visited National Gallery during Museum Night

About 7 Thousand People Visited National Gallery during Museum Night

YEREVAN, JUNE 11, ARMENPRESS: Today the Armenian National Gallery is
one of the most important cultural centers of the republic, where not
only new exhibitions open, but also different lectures are conducted,
different joint programs with secondary schools are implemented,
Director of the Armenian National Gallery Paravon Mirzoyan said today
at a meeting with journalists.

`We give an opportunity to different classes of society to come close
to the art,’ he noted adding that those works are being implemented on
a high level. During the chairmanship of P. Mirzoyan the 50% of the
employees of the National Gallery was changed, as the director
attaches importance to replenishment of young cadres.

During the museum night about 7 thousand people have visited the
National Gallery; this index, according to P. Mirzoyan, is a result of
the good work of the gallery. He said that the gallery faces a number
of issues, which hinder the implementation of the woks on its highest
level. There is an initial agreement with the Culture Ministry,
according to which relevant equipments must be brought from Japan.

P. Mirzoyan said that it is also not right that 4 historical-cultural
structures are simultaneously placed in one building – the Armenian
National Gallery, Armenian Museum of History, Literature Institute
after Y. Charents and Arno Babajanyan Philharmonic Hall.
