The action of cleaning Veri cemetery of Tbilisi was initiated by
the National Congress of Armenians of Georgia with the support
of representatives of other organizations, including the Assembly
of Tbilisi Armenians, Nor Serund, Shen, etc, as well as ordinary
residents of the city.

“This is our cultural heritage and we should preserve it. Previously,
Surb Khach Church was operating at the cemetery’s territory, but
its activity has been stopped during the Soviet era. Famous and
respected residents of Tbilisi are buried at the cemetery. Today,
due to the fact that heirs of these people do not live in Georgia,
their graves are neglected. Besides, tombstones of famous people
disappear with the lapse of time,” representative of the Armenian
community Mikhail Avagyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

The activists cleaned up 12 neglected graves, vaults and sepulchers.

The action was covered by Georgia’s RegionTV television channel.

Eduard Abrahamyan: Armen Ashotyan’s Educational Policy Incomprehensi

EDUARD ABRAHAMYAN: ARMEN ASHOTYAN’S EDUCATIONAL POLICY INCOMPREHENSIBLE TO SOCIETY

PanARMENIAN.Net
June 14, 2010 – 14:29 AMT 09:29 GMT

RA Education Minister Armen Ashotyan’s educational policy is
incomprehensible to society, according to National Neoconservative
Movement leader Eduard Abrahamyan .

Commenting on introduction of a bill on opening foreign-language
schools in Armenia, Eduard Abrahamyan stressed the importance of
improving education quality in Armenian schools.

“Armenian schools are the only hope and stronghold of powerful Armenian
statehood of future. Instead of bringing Armenian-language education
up to international standards, a number of Armenian officials are
doing their best to cut off current generation from their roots.”

“I am opposed to opening foreign-language schools in Armenia. Growing
generation is what determines the future of the country. Our education
should become a reflection of Armenian world view and mentality, rather
than a result of foreign cultural expansion,” National Neoconservative
Movement leader emphasized.

P. AVETISYAN, “LAWS ON PRESERVATION OF RA MONUMENTS NEED IMPROVEMENT”

ARMENPRESS

YEREVAN

YEREVAN, JUNE 14, ARMENPRESS: The territory of the Republic of Armenia
is distinguished by a great number of monuments, the considerable part
of which are of archeological nature, Director of the Archeology and
Ethnography Institute of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences
Pavel Avetisyan said today at a meeting with journalists.

He said that issues can arise during the activity of people living
in that environment connected with preservation of monuments, which
must be discussed on several platforms. According to him, the laws on
monument preservation need improvement and updating. “We should not
forget that all the monuments of Armenia are of global significance,
they give exclusive information for all the rounds of the human
civilization and are unique sources,” P. Avetisyan said.

According to him, any monument needs professional care and which is
the most important, the monuments of the territory of Armenia must
be socialized and become the property of the society. Director of
“Erebuni” historical-archeological reserve-museum Gagik Gyurjyan
noted that there are two reserve-museums under the liability of the
Armenian Culture Ministry – “Agarak” historical-cultural, which has
been established in 2001 and occupies 118 hectares area, and “Erebuni”
historical-archeological, which is situated in Yerevan and occupies
100 hectares area with its 3 sub-buildings.

According to G. Gyurjyan, the law must be able to regulate not only the
territories of the historical-archeological reserves of the republic,
but the archeological territories as well. G. Gyurjyan said that
the whole territory of Armenia must be proclaimed an archeological
territory, like in Italy, thanks to which archeological studies are
carried out in those territories before starting any construction.
