Yerevan To Host CSTO Informal Summit On August 20-21

YEREVAN TO HOST CSTO INFORMAL SUMMIT ON AUGUST 20-21

ArmInfo
2010-08-13 13:38:00

ArmInfo. The issue of military assistance to Kyrgyzstan will be
discussed the next week during the upcoming CSTO informal summit in
Yerevan on August 20-21, Kommersant Russian daily reports.

According to the source, leaders of CSTO member-states will gather
here not in full muster. As of August 12, President of Uzbekistan
Islam Karimov was not going to visit Yerevan. Instead, the Belorussian
leader Alexander Lukashenko will arrive. President of Kyrgyzstan Roza
Otunbayeva will also be present at the summit. The six presidents
will discuss the Kyrgyz issue not only in the context of military
assistance. In particular, according to the Kommersant’s data, the
heads of states will touch on the issue of using CSTO peacekeeping
forces during crises, in the same way that happened in the south
of Kyrgyzstan.

As Kommersant reports, the Kyrgyz president applied to the allies on
CSTO, just after the beginning of inter-ethnical conflict in Osh and
Jalal-Abad regions (the conflict broke out on June 10), with request
to assist the Kyrgyz Army and law machinery in weapon. The request was
admitted to examination. However, as Deputy Secretary of the Security
Council of Kyrgyzstan Vitaliy Orozaliyev told Kommersant yesterday,
Bishkek has not yet received the promised military assistance. The
sources of Kommersant in Russia’s Foreign Ministry and CSTO Secretariat
confirmed the availability of the request and said that such issues
are solved only after coordination among the Defense Ministries of
all the CSTO member-states (CSTO member-states are: Armenia, Belarus,
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan). “The issue
is under consideration. Its solution is expected in the near future”, a
diplomatic source of Kommersant, familiar with the Kyrgyz issue, said.

Meanwhile, Bishkek is still receiving humanitarian assistance from
allies on CSTO. Moreover, an advisory group numbering 50 people
has already been formed. It includes specialists from Russia,
Kazakhstan, Armenia and Tajikistan. They will make an investigation
of international conflicts and will be based in Osh. It is not ruled
that CSTO advisers will start working jointly with OSCE policemen
who will expectedly arrive in early September.

Massachusetts Court Confirms Prohibition On Armenian Genocide Denial

MASSACHUSETTS COURT CONFIRMS PROHIBITION ON ARMENIAN GENOCIDE DENIAL

ArmInfo
2010-08-13 13:40:00

ArmInfo. The US court of appeals has upheld a ruling that blocks
schools in the state of Massachusetts from teaching literature that
denies the mass killing of Armenians in Turkey in 1915 was a genocide.

Press service of the Voice of America says, the decision of the lower
court has thus remained in force. According to the decision, in 1999,
the Massachusetts authorities fairly excluded from textbooks the
information saying mass killings of one and half million of Armenians
by Turks in Ottoman Empire was not a genocide.

The lawsuit was initially filed by the Assembly of Turkish American
Associations, the lawyers of which claimed that exclusion of such
materials from the education curriculum is a censure. They think that
schoolchildren must be acquainted with the modern Turkish version
of presentment of the events in order to have a balanced idea of
the tragedy. The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) and
Armenian Assembly of America (AAA) welcomed the decision of the US
court of appeals.

Karabakh War. The Story Of A Patriot

KARABAKH WAR. THE STORY OF A PATRIOT
Mariam Matnishyan / PanARMENIAN News

PanARMENIAN.Net
July 7 2010

There is nothing higher than let your enemy know that you can remain
a human being even in the battle field.

The 1988 events in Sumgait, Azerbaijan, shocked the entire
Armenianhood. Dozens of people were slaughtered, majority of them
after tortures and severe beatings. Over 200 apartments were robbed
and burnt. Thousands of refugees remained homeless. This year changed
the lives of many people. 27-year-old Manvel Yeghiazaryan was not
an exception…

His life after 1988 is the story of a patriot, the story of commander
of legendary Arabo detachment.

“Warriors must look fit and be obedient to the commander, who, in
turn, must be ready to give his life for them. I did not see these
qualities in the Armenian liberation army when the war broke out. The
men just grew beards, as if trying to frighten with their appearance,”
Yeghiazaryan recollects.

In 1989, he formed his Arabo detachment to defend the homeland.

Remembering those years, Yeghiazaryan seems to go through them again:
ruined houses, burnt down fields…

“The best day was probably when we took a group of captives, among
whom was a 3-year-old Azerbaijani child. We were all ill then, the
child too. He was coughing terribly. I gave my medicine to his mother.

In two days, when the child recovered, his mother thanked me saying:
“God bless your children.” There is nothing higher than let your enemy
know that you can remain a human being even in the battle field,”
Yeghiazaryan said, smiling.

When he avoids misfortune, he still remembers that woman’s blessing.

The summer of 1992 , when Arabo soldiers went missing, was the most
severe blow… “That day I was accusing everyone. True, we were
prepared for death. But the thought that we could save our friends
and didn’t hurts badly,” Yeghiazaryan said.

Today, he collaborates with public organizations and keeps fit. Will
he fight if war resumes?

“You know, I can’t but fight. If I do so, many will follow me,”
Yeghiazaryan said as a real leader.

AAC Celebrates Feast Of The Dormition Of Holy Mary On August 15

AAC CELEBRATES FEAST OF THE DORMITION OF HOLY MARY ON AUGUST 15

GMTPanARMENIAN.Net
August 13, 2010 – 15:49 AMT 10:49

Armenian Apostolic Church will celebrate the feast of the Dormition
of Holy Mary on August 15.

As the legend goes, three days before the death of Mary, the Archangel
Gabriel appeared and announced to her from her Son, Jesus Christ,
the time of her departure into eternity. On the day of her death, in
a miraculous manner the Apostles gathered in Jerusalem, although they
had been scattered in various countries of the then known world. St.

Thomas was the only Apostle absent. The Apostles, while singing holy
hymns, carried the body of Mary to the grave where they remained
keeping vigil for three days. On the third day, St. Thomas came from
afar and desired very much to view for the last time the Most Pure
Mother of God. When the grave was opened, her body was not there, only
the funeral clothes in which the body had been wrapped. The Apostles
then realized that Mary had been taken up body and soul into heaven.

Upon completion of the Divine Liturgy the traditional Blessing of
the Grapes ceremony will be performed.

August 16 is marked as the day of commemoration of the dead, announced
by RA government as a day off instead of Saturday, August 21.
