YEREVAN, AUGUST 13, ARMENPRESS: The first gala-exhibition of Armenian
abstract artists will open August 17 in the Museum of Contemporary
Art, which, according to organizers, is a huge attempt to draw the
public attention to the abstract art.

“Abstract art can basically change a person, turn into quite another
individuality,” artist Garik Karapetyan noted at today’s meeting with
journalists adding that this year the 100th anniversary of formation
of abstract art is marked as well, which coincides with the exhibition.

A painting was created by artist Vasili Kandinski in 1910, which
in future was considered the first abstract work. According to the
organizers of the exhibition, it is high time to change the current
standards in art in Armenia, as it is already for a long time that
the world lives with quite another art and merits.

Sculptor Ashot Harutyunyan noted that a way of free thinking is
necessary to shape, and the goal of the exhibition is just that.

Forty five paintings of 15 artists arrived from Australia, Canada,
Europe and other places and 10 sculptures will be exhibited till
September 2.

YEREVAN

YEREVAN, AUGUST 13, ARMENPRESS: We have not had such great number
of singers in our history; this is a new florescence of the Armenian
song, according to Djivan Gasparyan, world-famous Armenian master of
duduk. At today’s press conference he spoke on the current state of
the Armenian song and music. He says the Armenian melody should be
preserved anyway.

‘The Armenian culture has always been captured, our songs were sung
in Turkish, but now we have our state, we can protect our song,
our copyright,’ Arsen Grigoryan (Mro) said. The singer added that the
Turks do not have anything, which comes from their roots: ‘their songs,
alphabet and their country are captured’.

Djivan Gasparyan added that in Istanbul he played the ‘We are sincere
soldiers’ martial-patriotic song and the Turks informed him that
the same song is sung by the Turks as well, but they noted that the
Turkish variant of the song is romantic. Djivan Gasparyan says the
Armenian culture and Church played a great role in the process of
preservation of the Armenian nation.

Djivan Gasparyan is invited to Turkey to partake September in a
concert, dedicated to peace. He says he has not decided yet whether
accept the invitation or not. ‘I shall consult with my friends and
then make the decision,’ the musician said.

YEREVAN

YEREVAN, AUGUST 13, ARMENPRESS: Trainings are intended to conduct
for the working staffs of 4 daytime child care centers within the
frameworks of the joint program of the OSCE Yerevan office and of
“Resource Center for Fighting against Trafficking” of the Armenian
Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

Consultant of the center on social affairs Eleonora Virabyan
told Armenpress that these are the institutions which work with
children of socially insecure families, are well aware of the way of
life, possibilities and social issues of those families; hence the
involvement of suchlike institutions in fighting against trafficking
is of great importance. Currently survey is conducted in those centers
for assessing the needs and knowledge on trafficking of the working
staff. After summing up the results, classes of special inclination
will be organized for them. The assessment work is implemented by
“Communities’ Development Social Center” NGO. The Resource Center for
Fighting against Trafficking has conducted numerous workshops in the
provinces of the republic on the theme of “Increase and strengthening
of capabilities of the parties involved in the process of providing
aid to the victims of the trafficking, in which employees of province
centers for defense of children’s rights, of healthcare and social
departments, police, employment services, as well as representatives
of NGOs partook. E. Virabyan said that at the workshops the activity
of the center and the legislation of the sphere have been presented.

The consultant noted that there are still considerable works to be
carried out in the direction of increasing the competence level of
the population especially in the provinces”. It is strange but most of
the victims of trafficking either do not know about the institutions
which display support or know but do not apply, as do not believe in
support,” she said. Sixty victims of trafficking have been revealed
last year in the Republic. The 24 of them have been extended support
within the programs of NGOs and state programs. Three victims of
trafficking have been revealed in the first quarter of this year.
