Why Is Multiple Sclrosis So Common Among Young People In Amenia?

WHY IS MULTIPLE SCLROSIS SO COMMON AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE IN AMENIA?

Tert.am
16:05 01.11.10

Like all over the world, an increased rate of nervous and
cardiovascular diseases is observed in Armenia by every year. Those
diseases tend to “get younger,” which according to specialists,
is caused by hard “socio-economic” conditions.

On the one hand, young people nowadays have more prospects than
30-40 years ago, on the other hand, however, life has become very
complicated for them, Elmira Gevorgyan, chief neurologist of Yerevan,
told jounrlists today.

Specialists are concerned by the sharp increase in the number of people
suffering from multiple sclerosis. The incidence of this disease has
grown 20-30 times over the past 20 years. It should not be linked to
the sclerosis which occurs in elderly people. This is something new
for Armenia, and its causes are unknown. It has different sympotms in
different people and is believed globally to be caused by some virus,
the chief neurologist stressed.

According to her, the treatments methods help mitigate the disease.

Although such patients live long, they may acquire disability in
case they don’t get treatment at the early stages of the disease,
she added.

Touching upon the most widespread diseases in our popoulation, the
doctor pointed out to myocard ifnarction which commonly occurs in men
and appopplexis which is more widespread among women. As a main cause
of these diseases she pointed out to high blood pressure. To that
end, the specialist recommended that patients having blood pressure
problems permanently take medicines regularly.

Beklevic Said "Great Calamity" And Armenians Didn’t Notice It: Polit

BEKLEVIC SAID “GREAT CALAMITY” AND ARMENIANS DIDN’T NOTICE IT: POLITOLOGIST

Tert.am
15:51 01.11.10

The ideas expressed by members of Powerful Turkey Party are reasonable
and in line with common-sense, politologist Stepan Grigoryan told a
press conference today.

“That party says that the Armenian-Turkish border should be opened
and that it should not be linked to others issues, such as Genocide
and Karabakh,” said he, adding that he personally knows the young
leaders of that party.

According to Mr Grigoryan, Tuna Beklevic, the leader of that party,
made an important statement in his press conference in Yerevan.

Particularly, he used the expression “great calamity” as he referred
to the Armenian Genocide – something the Armenian mass media did not
pay due attention to.

“When the US Congress says ‘great calamity, everybody write about it.

No one paid attention to Turkish party member’s use of such statement
in Armenia,” explained he.

Further Mr Grigoryan mentioned that the visit of those Turkish
politicians to Armenia boils down to the fact the Armenia is what he
called “free country” where one can come and freely express opinions.

“When they said that they had crossed the border, a sensitive
situation was created, but our state bodies, the foreign ministry
and the National Security Service, behaved correctly,” said he,
adding that Armenian’s might well not be treated likewise in Turkey.

High Inflation Rate And Foreign Debt Are Main Impediments To Armenia

HIGH INFLATION RATE AND FOREIGN DEBT ARE MAIN IMPEDIMENTS TO ARMENIA’S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, ANALYST

Tert.am
15:18 01.11.10

As a result of the global economic recession, the total economic output
in CIS countries made 7% in 2009, according to Nickolay Ivchenko,
Head of ForexClub companies’ information and analysis center.

Analyses show that the country suffering maximum losses was Latvia
while Kazakhstan easily overcame the crisis impact, he told journalists
on Monday, adding that reduced transfers and imports from Russia were
the main cause of Armenia’s economic downfall.

According to Mr Ivchenko, the main reasons leading to a downfall in
Armenia’s economy have been a reduction in private transfers from
Russia and the reduction in scales of Armenia’s exports.

Analyses have also shown that high inflation rate and large amounts
in foreign debt were the main impediment to the economic development
in CIS states, including Armenia

Michael Verdyan, analyst of “ForexClub” companies’ group, said in
turn, that Armenia’s GDP fall, which made about 15% last year, was
conditioned by the negative indices in construction (42.3 %) and trade
(4%) sectors.

Speaking about the current year’s economic growth, the expert said
it was accounted for by the positive indices in industry sector.

By the end of 2010, Armenia’s economic growth is expected to be 3.7
per cent, which is lower than it was in the first half of the year.

According to Andrey Dirgin, Head of the Analytic Department of
ForexClub, Armenia’s economy is not open and will remain so unless
the land connection with Turkey is re-established.

The foreign trade turnout between the two countries is carried out
via transit routes, which leads to increased prices on products,
he said, adding that compared to Georgia and Azerbaijan Armenia is
overcoming the crisis impact more easily.

No serious developments are expected over the Nagorno Karabakh conflict
according to Vahan Hovhannisyan, Head of Armenian Revolutionary
Federation (Dashnaktsutyun, ARF-D) parliamentary faction.

“We don’t see progress in the political resolution of the conflict
yet,” he told a news conference Monday, hailing the agreement between
Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents in Astrakhan envisaging exchange
of prisoners of war and returns of the bodies of those killed on the
line of contact.

Armenian MP didn’t rule out the possibility that a road map on Karabakh
conflict settlement may be submitted to the parties during the upcoming
OSCE meeting in Astana.

“Experience shows that a roadmap in our country may be adopted
overnight without the knowledge of the people and political forces,”
Mr Hovhannisyan added.
