Nalbandian: Baku should prepare public for compromise

Nalbandian: Baku should prepare public for compromise

January 29, 2011 – 11:00 AMT 07:00 GMT
PanARMENIAN.Net –

The time is not on either side in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict,
Armenian Foreign Minister said.

`As soon as we settle the conflict it will be for the benefit of all
sides of conflict. Regarding the talks, I do not quite agree with the
view that the sides’ positions have never been closer. Back in 2001 we
were close to resolve the conflict during talks in Paris through the
mediation of France. At that time, as a co-chair country of the Minsk
Group, France was more active, and the sides were very close to a
settlement,’ Edward Nalbandian said in an interview with Russia Today.

`Unfortunately, Heydar Aliyev, the then-President of Azerbaijan
rejected the agreements reached in Paris – the so-called Paris
Principles which were later committed to paper in Key West. He
explained his decision by alleged unreadiness of the Azerbaijani
public. But to resolve any conflict, the public opinion should be
prepared in advance, not afterwards. The public opinion should not be
stirred up, as Azerbaijan is doing at the moment, pouring oil on the
fire. It is necessary to prepare public opinion for the settlement,
prepare for compromise,’ he said.

Yerevan shares opinion of international community

Yerevan shares opinion of international community

PanARMENIAN.Net –

All the organizations involved in the settlement of the Nagorno
Karabakh conflict are international, Armenian Foreign Minister said.

`All of them issued statements, resolutions and decisions during those
three years that are concordant with Armenia’s position. I mean the
three principles and six main elements on the settlement of the
conflict. The negotiations are currently conducted on the basis of the
Madrid proposals that were presented to the sides back in November
2007. The six major principles were picked from the Madrid proposals
and voiced in the statements of Presidents Medvedev, Obama and Sarkozy
on Nagorno-Karabakh in L’Aquila and Muskoka in the frameworks of the
G8 Summits,’ Edward Nalbandian said in an interview with Russia Today.

`We are ready to move forward towards the settlement on the basis of
those principles and elements proposed by the OSCE Minsk Group. And we
are totally sharing the approach of the international community that
they have been conceived as an integrated whole, and it is not
acceptable to select some elements or principles over the others.
Azerbaijan, on the contrary, accepts only one principle out of the
three. Moreover, it pushes anti-Armenian resolutions in institutions
like the Organization of the Islamic Conference, whose members support
Azerbaijan,’ he said.

Edward Nalbandian: Karabakh people are masters of their life

Armenia is supporting the elements and principles proposed by the
Co-Chairs as a basis for the resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh
conflict, Armenian Foreign Minister said.

`One of those elements is that the people of Nagorno Karabakh should
themselves decide with whom and how they want to live, in other words
to be the masters of their life,’ Edward Nalbandian told Russia Today.

`And this free expression of will should have a legally binding force.
It has been conceived in the proposals of presented by the Minsk Group
Co-Chairs,’ he added.

`You know, it’s dangerous, when a country boasts readiness to use
force. Contrary to the calls of the international community,
Azerbaijan, unfortunately, continues with its threats and seems to
have forgotten how it all began. The conflict started when Azerbaijan
attacked Nagorno Karabakh, hiring mercenaries with close links to
international terrorist organizations. All know the result. But human
memory is short,’ Minister Nalbandian said.

niveau ».
