“Dear Compatriots,
Distinguished Veterans,
I congratulate you on the occasion of Victory and Peace Day.

We have been celebrating this holiday, which is delivered by the
heroic deeds of our fathers and grandfathers, for years. This victory
brought long-awaited peace to Armenia which endured so much tragedy.

This victory opened new doors for progress; it opened new horizons for
bringing up an educated and healthy young generation – a generation
which is true to the vows of its forefathers and which will build a
new Armenia.

For the Armenian nation, the World War II was the Great Patriotic War
indeed. Both Armenia and the Diaspora gave whatever they could. On
various fronts and in the rear, in resistance movements and guerrilla
squads, dedication and heroism of the sons and daughters of our
nations covered their names with glory.

May 9, 1992 once again became a symbol – this time of the Armenian
triumph, the symbol of resolve and immortality.

Now and ever, we will be celebrating wholeheartedly our glorious
victory; this is victory of good over evil and barbarity. With the
liberation of the historical capital of Artsakh, the Armenian soldier
has become a new perception and a new factor. Those, who stepped into
immortality on the battlefield, carry on with their great mission as
moral and political force.

The liberation of Shushi was a break through which showed first to
us and then to the rest of the world what stands for “the Armenian
who learned the lesson.” We silenced, and if need be will silence
again all those fire spots from where our children and our parents
were shot. However, I hope that it will not be necessary: our troops,
who are guarding peace of our Fatherland, hold the greatest promise
that it will not happen again.

Dear Compatriots, I once again congratulate us all on the occasion
of this holiday.

Peace and its bounties are the greatest victory. I wish we, together
fully appreciate every year of peace and stability for the sake of
the next generation, which will be true to the vows of its forefathers
and will continue to build a new, superior Armenia,” the address said,
according to the President’s press office.

and Peace Day.

After laying a wreath at the Eternal Flame Memorial dedicated to the
heroes of the Great Patriotic War, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan,
National Assembly Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan and several parliamentarians
dined with the war veterans in the park.

The veterans shared their problems with the officials, saying in the
meantime that they want to see Armenia in peace.

“We do not want the youth to experience the bitterness of war,”
they said.

Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan said the country’s leadership is doing its
utmost to reduce veterans’ problems to a minimum.

“We must do all our best to ensure normal living conditions for
people. They have done everything possible to overcome difficulties
and hold victory in the war, and today we owe to them. We must do
our utmost to make the final days of their lives prosperous,” he said.

Abrahamyan stressed the importance of becoming unanimous.

“Our people must be unanimous and tolerant to ensure our success in
future,” he added.

He also called on the authorities to join efforts, relying on the

Turkish Schools Continue Anti-Armenian Campaign

TURKISH SCHOOLS CONTINUE ANTI-ARMENIAN CAMPAIGN

Tert.am
09.05.11

The anti-Armenian campaign in Turkish schools continues.

In the run-up to the 96th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide,
a secondary school teacher in Istanbul showed students photos of
Turks allegedly killed by Armenians, the Turkish news agency Etha
reported, citing a 10th-grade student who attended special classes
in National Security.

The student told the agency that most students were unwilling to
watch the photos they were forced to look at, and some even wanted
to quit the classroom against the teacher’s will.

“When we asked the teacher who killed [ethnic] Armenian journalist
Hrant Dink and why, he immediately changed the topic to force us into
silence,” the student was quoted as saying.

The Turkish news agency considers the incident scandalous, comparing
it to the Education Ministry’s earlier ban on a film telling about
the Armenian Cause.

In 2009, the Turkish Ministry of Education issued a decree allowing the
screening of the documentary at schools. A parent of a schoolchild
later filed a complaint with the ministry, saying that the film
had negatively affected her daughter, driving her to “hatred and
hostility”,

In response, the ministry banned the film’s screening at schools. It
said in a statement that the film was intended for history teachers,
not children.

Weeks later, however, the ministry sent the film to schools, asking
them to present it to children and submit a report afterwards.

The Armenian community in Turkey also voiced its complaint in that
connection and sent a letter to Prime Minister Recep Tayip Erdogan.

In 2010, Hrant Dink International Foundation filed a lawsuit against
the Ministry of Education, calling for an action to stop the screening
the film at schools. But the court left the claim unsatisfied.

The film which documents Ankara’s denial policy in relation to the
Armenian Genocide was prepared by the instruction of the Turkish
Armed Forces special headquarters.

Scottish Independence To Accelerate Karabakh Recognition – Expert

SCOTTISH INDEPENDENCE TO ACCELERATE KARABAKH RECOGNITION – EXPERT

Tert.am
09.05.11

Scotland’s move to gain independence from the United Kingdom may
contribute to the process of Nagorno Karabakh’s recognition, says an
Armenian expert.

Speaking to Tert.am, political analyst Sergey Shakaryants said Nagorno
Karabakh does not have to declare independence as the country has been
living independently for 20 years. He said the independence vote in
Scotland and unrecognized states creates only a positive atmosphere
in the Karabakh recognition process.

This comes after Scottish nationalists, who always acted in favor
of the country’s independence from the United Kingdom, celebrated a
historic victory in a recent local election.

“The process will help develop a more positive attitude to Karabakh.

That will produce a positive outcome we have been waiting for since
the signing of the ceasefire,” Shakaryants said.

As for the independence of Scotland, he said the process is complicated
enough to find a speedy solution.

“Respected veterans of the Great Patriotic and Artsakh Liberation Wars,
Soldiers, officers and generals of the Artsakh Republic Defense Army,

I cordially congratulate you on the Victory Holiday, the Day of the
NKR Defense Army and the Liberation of Shushi.

May 9 has become one of the dearest and cherished holidays for us. It
symbolizes unshakeable will and victorious soul of our freedom-loving
nation, selfless devotion and loyalty to our Motherland and, of course,
faith in victory of goodness and kindness.

The conspicuous evidence of has been heroism of our fathers and
grandfathers during in the course of the Great Patriotic War. Together
with other nations struggling against fascism, the brown plague of
the XX century, they saved the whole mankind from destruction.

Years later, when Artsakh found itself in the thick of the imposed
war, the generations brought up by their heroic example proved to
be worthy descendants of their ancestors and registered victories
in the struggle of life and death. It was first of all the birth of
the Defense Army, regular and efficient army, which today is the main
guarantor of our independence and security. It was the liberation of
Shoushi that became one of the glorious victories of our people. It was
also the unity and cohesion of our nation that managed to consolidate
in the fatal hour and defend its freedom and independence.

The best sons of the Armenian people sacrificed their lives to achieve
these victories. Eternal honor and glory to the brave sons perished
in the Great Patriotic and Artsakh Liberation Wars.

Dear compatriots,

I once again congratulate all of us on this glorious Triple Holiday
and wish peace, robust health and new victories in different spheres
of life.”
