Rock Climbing Festival To Be Held In Armenia

ROCK CLIMBING FESTIVAL TO BE HELD IN ARMENIA

“Rocks above” festival of rock climbing will be conducted May 21-31
in Armenia, organized by “Rocks above” club with the assistance of
Armenian Competitiveness Foundation. Public relations officer of
the Foundation Zara Amatuni told Armenpress that the rocks climbing
festival will be conducted in Garni, Arpa River and Noravank gorges.

Representatives of 10 countries are going to participate in the event.

Zara Amatuni said besides being a sport event it is of tourism
significance as well. In future it is going to be an interesting
event for tourists.

“The festival will be of important significance as there are many
tourists interested in such kind of events. Besides climbing the
rocks they will get acquainted with the sightseeing of our country”,
she said.

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian received today the
delegation headed by the President of the European People’s Party,
Wilfred Martens.

MFA press office reported that the interlocutors discussed in detail
the process of continuous development of cooperation between Armenia
and the European Union, as well as issues related to the Eastern
Partnership Program.

Edward Nalbandian and Wilfred Martens exchanged views on a number of
international and regional questions.

Minister Nalbandian presented the latest developments in the process
of settlement of the Karabakh conflict. In this context he noted that
the international community should properly respond to Azerbaijan’s
threats of use of force and provocations.

Chairman of the Armenian National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan awarded
today four veterans of Great Patriotic War with Orders of Honor
and gave them money awards. Congratulating the veterans on the May
holidays – Day of Victory and Peace, Shushi liberation day, Hovik
Abrahamyan noted that the Armenian soldiers and officers had great
contribution to the victory in Great Patriotic War.

The awarded veterans thanked the NA chairman for the attention and
wished new achievements to the country.

Armenian Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan received today
director of the World Wildlife Fund Norway Office Rasmus Hansson. The
ministry and WWF are cooperating since 2007 within the framework
of “Biodiversity and Community Development: the implementation of
eco-regions nature protection goals in the South Armenia” program.

Within the framework of the program work has been carried out,
particularly in “Khosrov’s Forest” and “Shikahogh” state reserves.

Press service of the ministry told Armenpress that during the meeting
the interlocutors discussed the implemented work and possible ways of
cooperation. Aram Harutyunyan highly assessed the meeting and expressed
hope that it will be of continuative nature giving positive results.

Youth Parliament To Operate From Late May

Armenia’s Youth Parliament will finally be formed and start functioning
from late May, head of the NA’s Education, Science, Culture and Youth
Affairs Standing Committee Artak Davtyan said at a news conference
today, adding that the initiative of creation of the youth parliament
belongs to the chairman of the National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan.

According to Davtyan, the Youth Parliament will become NA advisory
body, the decisions of the institution will not have obligatory force
but will be taken into consideration by the senior partners.

The structure of the Youth Parliament is like the NA’s. The main goal
is to form new political culture in the country, ensure participation
of active young people in adopting decisions.

Construction Of The House-Museum Of Charles Aznavour Completed

CONSTRUCTION OF THE HOUSE-MUSEUM OF CHARLES AZNAVOUR COMPLETED

The construction of the house-museum of Charles Aznavour has been
completed. Urban development minister Vardan Vardanyan said the
building is ready. Now the samples must be transported to the museum.

Aznavour’s Paris office is organizing the stage by stage transportation
of samples. Vardanyan noted that the date of opening of the museum
will be reported additionally.

The building is situated in the left side of Cascade complex. The
construction of the building started in 2007. The house-museum will be
multi-functional cultural center. It will have 150-seat closed hall,
reception hall, museum, open-air cafe.

By the way Charles Aznavour visited earlier the territory and approved
the territory.

France-Based Participants Of Artsakh War Awarded With Memorial Order

FRANCE-BASED PARTICIPANTS OF ARTSAKH WAR AWARDED WITH MEMORIAL ORDERS

A ceremony of awarding memorial orders to some Armenian and
Diaspora-Armenian participants of the Artsakh War was held May 6 at
the AGBU Alex Manoogian Cultural Center in Paris.

An official from the press, information and PR department of the
RA foreign affairs ministry told Armenpress that Hayk Harutyunyan,
chairman of “Azatamartik” military-patriotic benevolent NGO, former
commander of the Sose Mayrik Detachment, awarded the “Azatamartik”
memorial order to 6 France-based participants of the Artsakh War.

Several participants were awarded with certificates by the NGO.

A documentary on the organization’s activity was presented. At the
evening Richard Hovhannisyan, UCLA professor, delivered a lecture.

Armenia is ready to meet the mission from MAGATE, Prime Minister
Tigran Sargsyan said at a briefing today, saying that preparatory
works in respect of increase of the level of security of the Armenian
nuclear plant have already been conducted.

According to the head of the government, Armenian Energy and Natural
Resources Minister Armen Movsisyan has been assigned to once again
review and conduct checking in accordance with all the rules together
with all stakeholder establishments.

In May MAGATE specialized mission will visit Armenia to conduct
two-week long test checking to reveal the strong and weak sides of
the Armenian Atomic Plant.

More frequent sniper attacks on the border are not enough to trigger a
war, a former Nagorno Karabakh Republic (NKR, Artsakh) deputy foreign
minister says.

In an interview with the Capital Daily, Masis Mayilyan said the
Karabakh war may resume only as a result of political decisions.

“Politicians, not militaries start wars,” Mayilyan said. “What they
do now is a military blackmail. It is Azerbaijan’s attempt to resort
to military diplomacy to achieve success in the negotiations.”

Mayilyan added that neither Stepanakert nor Yerevan are going to
follow the rules of the game imposde by the Azerbaijani authorities.

Meantime he stressed the importance of being ready for any situation
and developments.

Mayilyan also said he finds Karabakh to be absolutely prepared for
a war at present.

Armenian delegation headed by Vice-Premier, Minister of Territorial
Administration Armen Gevorgyan went on Tuesday with a three-day
working visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for participation in
the first annual investment forum.

For Armenia the forum is important in the context of attracting
investments, presenting the Armenian products in the Arab market,
discussing opportunities for the implementation of joint programs
and detecting new areas of cooperation.

The speech of Armen Gevorgyan is envisaged in the forum.

Armenian delegation will participate in the round tables which are
particularly devoted to trade and investment opportunities of UAE and
Gulf countries, economic development in the region, new opportunities
conditioned by the development of China’s economy, attraction of
direct foreign investments, prospects of development of free zones
and investment strategies.

This event provides a new and unique opportunity of meetings for
potential investors, introduction to investment opportunities
in international markets and beginning cooperation with large
international investment companies. In the frames of the forum an
exhibition and presentations of participant-countries is organized,
during which international investors will get acquainted with the
large projects implemented in these countries.

At the presentation of Armenia, which will be held on May 12, heads of
Armenian Development Agency (ADA) and National Competitiveness Fund
(FNC) will present major projects implemented in Armenia which are
also of regional importance.

Armenia will have a separate pavilion in the exhibition. Besides ADA
and FNC, programs and different products of four companies will be
presented in the exhibition.

Seminars on the exchange of experience in the investment sphere will
be organized.

Armenian vice-premier will have a number of meetings with high
management of UAE with the purpose of discussing bilateral agenda.

Armenian delegation consists of representatives of Armenian Foreign
Ministry, Economy Ministry, ADA, FNC and businessmen.
