On May 15-17, a delegation of the Armenian National Assembly
participated in a sitting of 3 standing committees of the
Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of
Independent (IPA CIS) in Saint Petersburg.

Member of the Armenian delegation to the IPA CIS Eduard Sharmazanov
told a press conference in Yerevan that, as part of a sitting of the
Council of the IPA CIS, Turkic-speaking countries made an initiative
to provide Turkey with observer’s status in the IPA CIS, thus creating
a new platform for Ankara’s anti-Armenian activity.

“The Azerbaijani delegation offered to unite in one package the
matters of provision of TURKPA (Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic
Speaking Countries) and Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy with
observer’s status in the IPA CIS. However, we noted that these are
two different organizations, and provision of observer’s status to
them should be considered separately,” said Sharmazanov. Eventually,
the Azerbaijani side was forced to vote against its own project.

A reporter of the Russian radio station Echo Moskvy has been denied
entry to Azerbaijan for what appears to be an earlier visit to Nagorno
Karabakh without Azerbaijan’s ascent.

Sergey Buntman, the deputy chief editor of Echo Moskvy told Russian
news agency Interfax that he was denied entry because “he had been
in Karabakh and had an interview with Karabakh’s president [Bako]
Sahakyan.”

Buntman also said currently he is in Yerevan and is planning to
return Moscow.

Azerbaijan, which considers Nagorno Karabakh as an inseparable part
of its territory, is believed to refuse entry to all foreigners who
have visited Karabakh without its permission.

Commenting on the incident, Alexei Venediktov, the Chief Editor of
Echo Moskvy, said he is planning to send a letter to Azerbaijan’s
President Ilham Aliyev on the issue.

He also said that “reporters can visit various countries without
letting the authorities”.

“Reporters are tasked with collecting information, analyzing and
telling about what happens,” Interfax quoted him as saying.

Venediktov also said he has planned Buntman’s visit to Baku and is
not going to cancel it.

titled Georgia: The Javakheti Region’s Integration Challenges.

According to Shirak Torosyan the report contains sound views. “The

discontent over the absence of the status of the Armenian language,
social and economic issues, urging to take efforts to solve the
situation,” Torosyan said.

At the same time, Torosyan indicated a number of omissions in the

Armenia’s readiness to compromises pledge of successful "sale of pip

Armenia’s readiness to compromises pledge of successful “sale of
pipes” by OSCE MG mediators

arminfo
Friday, May 20, 13:11

Armenia’s readiness to compromises is a pledge of successful “sale of
pipes” by the mediators of the OSCE Minsk Group on resolution of the
Karabakh conflict, because this is what they are inherently engaged
in.

Deputy Head of the Noravank Research and Education Foundation Center
for Political Studies, military expert Sergey Sargsyan made such
statement at a seminar entitled “Nagorny Karabakh Conflict: Scenarios
of Military and Political Confrontation” at Noravank Fund, Thursday.

“For mediators now and ever it is most important to sell pipes. They
do not even care if it is a gas or oil pipe or if it operates or not.
It is important that these mains are not subjected to destruction or a
threat of destruction. In this light, it is important for any mediator
mission to achieve a compromise by the parties to the conflict or at
least readiness to a compromise. Azerbaijan has always had an
aggressive and uncompromising stance. In this light, at least before
2009 the Armenian party had expressed readiness to these concessions,
at least, verbally. Therefore, the efforts of the mediator mission
were addressed first of all to the Armenian party to the conflict. It
was inherently not important for the mediators which of the parties
would make a concession and which wouldn’t,” he said.

Nevertheless, the expert said, the situation has changed now because
the Armenian parties to the conflict have exhausted the limit of the
supposed concessions and reached the red line. “In this light, today
theoretically and practically the supposed resolution of the conflict
can be just peaceful, or through resumption of military actions by
Azerbaijan. An interim agreement is not ruled out either in case of a
strong pressure on Armenia and Azerbaijan by the mediator-countries.
Anyway, the key mission of the mediators are pipes and not the
resolution of the conflict,” Sargsyan said.

The OSCE MG represented by the co-chairs of Russia, U.S. and France
has been engaged in resolution of the Karabakh conflict since 1992.
