HAYK DEMOYAN SAYS TURKEY EVEN DOES NOT WANT TO STUDY ITS OWN HISTORY

YEREVAN

The statement of the Foreign Ministry of Turkey is an attempt to
distort the call of the Armenian president burdening the guilt of
failure of establishment of peace in the region on the Armenian side,
Hayk Demoyan, director of the Armenian Genocide museum-institute, told
the reporters Thursday, commenting on the statement of the Turkish
FM which condemned the speech of RA President Serzh Sargsyan voiced
July 23 in Tsakhkadzor.

“Our neighbor Turkey has not studied well even its own history and
calls of its leaders. It will not be wrong if I cite the words of
Kemal Ataturk that were on time fixed on all the establishments and
are being often used today: “time will come when Russia becomes weaker
and we will be able to give a blow and liberate our lands from the
Russian influence, as well as unite our brotherly nations. But this
more probably will be the issue of our future generations””, Demoyan
cited, calling the Turkish party to study their own history and only
after doing it make statements.

Stepan Shaumian’s House Is Falling Apart

STEPAN SHAUMIAN’S HOUSE IS FALLING APART

Only a vane has remained untouched in one of the gardens in Yerevan’s
Arami street. The garden belonged to the Piloyans family who were
expelled from their homes in the name of “public interest.”

Tigran Piloyan says he had 40 fruit trees, 60 Dutch roses, lilac
and vanes which were razed to the ground in one day. The area was
alienated five years ago but so far no construction has been carried
out on the site.

“Look how the site which was abandoned in 2006 looks today,” said
Piloyan.

Then he recalled the words of Judicial Acts Compulsory Enforcement
Service employees, who visited them on March 13, 2006.

“They apologized to me and said that they had evicted many families,
but they had never seen such a well-maintained house with a magnificent
garden,” said the former owner.

Each square meter of the land was valued at $250 and each square
meter of the house – at $434.

“Everywhere in the globe land is more expensive than a building. But
here, in the heart of the Armenian capital, my land was valued at $
250,” said Piloyan.

He appealed the decision in different courts, including the European
Court of Human Rights.

Piloyan says the area has been privatized by the President of the
Union of Armenians of Russia, Ara Abrahamyan. The house formerly
belonged to revolutionary Stepan Shaumian.

An Armenian In Adjara: Armenian Eyes Don’t Lie

AN ARMENIAN IN ADJARA: ARMENIAN EYES DON’T LIE
Kristine Aghalaryan

hetq
July 26, 2011

Larisa herds the cows in the direction of the green pasture. The woman
makes a beehive towards her neighbor’s house.

She’s heard that some Armenians have arrived and Larisa is interested
in seeing them. After all she’s Armenian as well – at least on her
father’s side.

Larisa only remembers a few Armenian words from when she grew up in
Akhalkalak; ‘how are you’, ‘what would you lie’, etc.

When her father passed away, Larisa and her mother, a Georgian, moved
to Kobuleti, a town on the Black Sea coast of Adjara.

She married a local and has remained in Kobuleti ever since.

Larisa told me that making a living is hard here since jobs are
scarce. She says that every other person is engaged in the buying and
selling of something or other and that many residents travel to Turkey
for work.

In fact, Larisa’s eldest son has only left for Turkey to seek
employment. Her other son plies the beaches in a canoe-type boat
selling this and that.

Summer is the time to make as much money as one can. Come the winter,
things shut down.

Larisa tends to her cows and owns a bit of land on which she grows potatoes.

She and her family live on the upper floor of her brother-in-law’s
house. Hopefully, they will have a roof of their own in two years.

During our conversation, Larisa noted that tourists from Armenia
seemed to be well off financially, even though they complained about
not having a sea to swim in.

“OK, they have no ocean but they sure have money in their pockets,”
Larisa joked.

The family lives only 100 meters or so from the ocean. A highway is
the only thing separating their house from the water.

But Larisa never goes swimming – it’s just not acceptable for local women.

“What would the neighbours say,” notes Larisa.

Sitting at the table, Larisa turns to me and gazes at my eyes.

She then turns to her Georgian neighbour and tells her, “See? Our eyes
look the same. They’re Armenian eyes.”

The sun has set behind the sea’s horizon.

Larisa’s cows begin to grumble and groan.

She gets up to herd them into the shed.

“I’ll be back tomorrow,” Larisa says as she skirts around the fence.

BRONISLAW KOMOROWSKI STRESSES THE IMPORTANCE OF RIGHT OF PEOPLE TO SELF-DETERMINATION

BAKU

President of the Republic of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski stated in
Baku that territorial integrity and self-determination of people are
inseparable principles in the Karabakh conflict settlement issue. At
the joint press conference of the two presidents, the Polish president
avoided expressing support to Azerbaijan’s position in the Karabakh
conflict settlement issue, moreover, emphasized the significance of
the right of people to self-determination.

“The NK issue should be settled in a peaceful way. The right of people
to self-determination is as important as the territorial integrity.

The most dangerous is that some approach this issue stemming from
geographical and political conditions”, Komorowski said.

GENOCIDE EXPERT CALLS ON ISRAEL TO ‘PUT ARMENIAN GENOCIDE ISSUE BEFORE POLITICS’

Tert.am
27.07.11

An American born Genocide expert, Israel Charney, calls on the Israel
to put the Armenian Genocide issue before politics, according to the
Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

Charny who currently lives in Jerusalem, is said to be wary of a
renewed push for detente between Israel and Turkey, a move which may
reportedly torpedo his campaign for recognition.

“The whole business of rapprochement with Turkey is a game that
politicians should and must play, because we want to get out of that
process as much as possible,” the paper quoted him as telling Anglo
file earliwe this week. “But I don’t think it should be done with the
illusion that we’re dealing with anything but a totalitarian,
dangerous government. I don’t think we should ever compromise again on
the ethical principal whether to deny the Armenian genocide or not –
that should not be a basis for the attempt to remarry after the
divorce.”

Import Of Motor Cars To Armenia Has Sharply Grown And Of Oil Product

IMPORT OF MOTOR CARS TO ARMENIA HAS SHARPLY GROWN AND OF OIL PRODUCTS FALLEN

arminfo
July 27, 2011

The import of motor cars to Armenia has sharply grown by 86% – up to
13 thsd units in the first half-year of 2011, against 7thsd at the same
period of 2010. At the same time, import of oil products reduced by 7%
– to 159 745 tons against 171 565 tons in the first half-year of 2010,
the report of the Customs Service says.

The motor-cars were imported to the republic over the reported period
for the total sum $108 589 thsd against $66 146 thsd in the first
half-year of 2010. The customs cost of the imported oil products
amounted to $162 880 thsd against $141 908 thsd at the same period
of 2010.

Incidentally, although the import of the oil products fell by 7%,
their customs cost increased by 14,8%. This is because of sharp
growing of prices for the oil products in the republic this year,
which is conditioned by the world prices growth.

The fact that import of motor-cars to Armenia has grown almost twofold,
and import of fuel reduced, is evidence of the fact that because of
high price for petrol and diesel fuel in the republic, more and more
motor-cars start using an alter4native fuel – natural gas. As oil
traders say, more than half of the motor-car fleet of the republic,
almost the whole public transport and taxi, use gas.
