AZERBAIJANI MFA HAS HABIT OF MAKING ABSURD STATEMENTS – ARMENIA’S RULING PARTY

news.am, Armenia
Oct 12 2011

YEREVAN. – Statement by Azerbaijani MFA official that the relationship
between Armenia and Russia cause instability in the region is another
absurdity, MP from ruling Republican Party Eduard Sharmazanov told
Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to him, Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security
Council, as a strategic partner of Armenia and as co-chair of OSCE
Minsk Group is a balancing power in the region.

“I see that Azerbaijanis are uncomfortable with Armenian-Russian
fraternal relations. Azerbaijan can do nothing but cope with the
situation and refrain from further mistakes,” stated Sharmazanov.

The MP said that it is Azerbaijan who threatens security in the region
first, pushing a policy of terrorism at the state level. Consequently,
Russia and other OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs should respond adequately
to such statements voiced by Azerbaijan.

At GUAM countries international conference “Establishing relationships
across borders”, the official of Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Elchin
Huseynli stated that “Relations between Russia and Armenia cause
instability in the region. Armenia- the smallest country in the region
has important political and military agreements with Russia,” he said.

Gorbachev To Sponsor Solar Energy In Armenia?

GORBACHEV TO SPONSOR SOLAR ENERGY IN ARMENIA?
by Giorgi Lomsadze

EurasiaNet.org, NY
Oct 12 2011

Armenian solar energy enthusiasts claim that Mikhail Gorbachev
has promised to underwrite production of solar systems in
nuclear-power-addicted Armenia.

Diehard supporters of homemade solar energy solutions vowed on October
11 to go ahead with their plans to set up a solar panel factory in
the Armenian town of Spitak, the Russian news agency Regnum reported.

Gorbachev will back them if the Armenian government will not,
they claimed.

Vaan Amazaspian, energy researcher and the project’s key backer,
said that the green energy charity Green Cross, of which the ex-Soviet
leader is the founding president, pledged $8 million for the ambitious
plan. Green Cross supports sustainable energy and conflict-resolution
initiatives. Reports of the investment surfaced in August, but the
Geneva-based NGO has not yet confirmed its alleged plans to sponsor
the plant.

Amazaspian indicated that the Armenian government, for its part,
had been less than encouraging about the idea of taking Spitak solar.

Rather than to solar energy, the Armenian government has long given
priority to upgrading, or rather replacing, the Soviet-built nuclear
plant Metsamor, the country~Rs main energy provider.

The Reward Will Come: Armenia Looking Ahead To FIFA World Cup 2014

THE REWARD WILL COME: ARMENIA LOOKING AHEAD TO FIFA WORLD CUP 2014

Football remains high on the agenda today. Fans continue slamming
referee Iturralde González and praising the Armenian national team,
the social networks are flooded with various comments. Player of
Ararat -73 and Chairman of the Football Veterans Union Sergey
Poghosyn says the referee obviously made a number of mistakes,
football commentator Karen Giloyan considers thinking about replaying
the match is senseless.

Iturralde González was not unbiased, although it’s hard to prove,
Sergey Poghosyan told a press conference today. According to him,
the most fatal mistake was the dismissal of Armenian goalkeeper Roman
Berezovsky, taking into consideration that Ireland’s forward Simon
Cox confessed it was not a handball by the keeper.

Karen Giloyan says it would be a heroic deed by Cox to declare it
during the game. His words will not change anything now. According
to him, thinking about replaying the game is senseless.

“It’s obvious that the referee made а number of grave mistakes,
but it’s hard to prove now that they were intentional. Victory is so
sweet, that the player would never say during the game that the ball
had touched his hand before reaching Berezovsky. It was the feeling
of remorse that made Cox confesses after the game,” Giloyan said.

Karen Giloyan says to be proud of our team. The victory could well
be ours. Even with ten men Armenia looked better than the rival. “Our
team looked like playing at home with 50 thousand fans cheering.”

“It was a pity. My second impression is that we have a really strong
team and I believe we’re going to play well in the FIFA World Cup
qualifiers,” he said.

Sergey Poghosyan also says the team is very strong. He is impressed
by the quality and style of playing. “Coach Vardan Minasyan is a wise
man, who manages to choose a correct scheme of the game and follow it.

The team did not lose its face. An unavoidable reward will follow
during the FIFA World Cup 2014 qualifiers,” he said.

Iran Says Envoy Assassination Plot Allegations ‘Foolish’

IRAN SAYS ENVOY ASSASSINATION PLOT ALLEGATIONS ‘FOOLISH’

PanARMENIAN.Net
October 12, 2011 – 13:47 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – U.S. allegations that Iran plotted to assassinate
Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Washington are a “mischievous, foolish”
attempt to fuel tension between Tehran and Riyadh, a senior Iranian
official said Wednesday, October 12.

U.S. authorities said Tuesday that they had broken up a plot by
two men linked to Iran’s security agencies to kill the Saudi envoy,
Adel al-Jubeir. One man was arrested last month while the other was
believed to be in Iran.

Parliament speaker Ali Larijani, echoing Iran’s official stance,
denied the charges in an open session of parliament.

“These claims are vulgar … It is a childish and amateur game
… We believe that our neighbors in the region are very well aware
that America is using this story to ruin our relationship with Saudi
Arabia,” Larijani told parliament in a speech broadcast live on state
radio, Reuters reported.

Saudi-Iranian tensions have increased since March, when Saudi Arabia
sent troops to help Bahrain’s Sunni rulers quell pro-democracy
protesters led by the island’s Shi’ite majority, which has long
complained of sectarian discrimination.

Bahrain accused Iran of being behind the unrest, a charge denied by
Tehran and by Bahraini Shi’ite political parties.

Zhamanak: Damaging Evidence

ZHAMANAK: DAMAGING EVIDENCE

Tert.am

Referring to anonymous sources, the newspaper reported that Armenia’s
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Security Service are involved
in the work aimed at bringing back the Armenian citizens that left
the country.

The aim is to conceal the real number of emigrants from the public.

According to another source, the aim is to gather damaging evidence of
the opposition parties’ “business” activities. Over the recent period,
documents proving membership in persecuted political parties have
been “an effective means” of seeking political asylum in European
countries. “So the aim is to find out if the parties did not sell
membership cards,” the newspaper writes.
