The statement of return of Robert Kocharyan to the political arena is
his own business and no one has a right to violate one’s constitutional
right, member of the NA’s Republican faction Hamlet Harutyunyan told
a news conference today. “If Levon Ter-Petrosyan returned after 10
years why the second president cannot return.

Moreover, Robert Kocharyan’s chances are much more, he is in more

for ten years and during his presidency many reached success.

MAINTENANCE OF STATUS QUO OVER KARABAKH UNACCEPTABLE – AZERI OFFICIAL

Tert.am

The maintenance of the current status quo over Nagorno-Karabakh
threatens a new war in the region, according to an Azerbaijani
official.

Ali Hasanov, the head of the Public-Political Affairs Department at
the Azerbaijan presidential office has said the world community is
making every possible effort to prevent Azerbaijan from unleashing
a war against Armenia.

“But the Azerbaijani president has numerously announced that the
country may run out of patience. It cannot expect the status quo to
last forever. To maintain its territorial integrity Azerbaijan is
resorting to legal, as well as other methods,” Trend news quoted the
Azerbaijani official as saying.

Hasanov emphasized that the world community, particularly the Minsk
Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe
(OSCE), calls for changing the current situation, considering it
unacceptable.

“Azerbaijan is not a militaristic country to have claims to others’
lands. It seeks to maintain its own sovereignty, reinstate the violated
rights of its citizens and establish peace in the region. Not to
unleash military operations, it is trying to gain maximum benefit
of the negotiation process. But is the status quo does not change,
Azerbaijan will certainly exercise its right, without any concession,”
he said.

Robert Bradtke (U.S.) and Igor Popov (Russia) warned Azerbaijan

Karabakh conflict, member of the Armenian delegation to OSCE PA said

As Artak Davtyan noted, during a special presentation on the OSCE
role in Karabakh conflict settlement, the Co-chairs warned Baku
against hoping for ever getting demographic and economic advantage
over Armenia to be used in the conflict.”

“The Co-chairs also commented on one of the parties’ refusal to
withdraw snipers from contact line. Though unmentioned, it was clear
Azerbaijan was implied,” Davtyan said.

“Armenia was urged against using maintenance of status quo to achieve
NKR recognition,” he noted.

The head of delegation, Aram Safaryan, in turn, characterized the
majority of suggestions advanced during the presentation as balanced

FFA Protests Gonzalez Decision In Armenia V Ireland Match

FFA PROTESTS GONZALEZ DECISION IN ARMENIA V IRELAND MATCH

PanARMENIAN.Net

PanARMENIAN.Net – On his Facebok page, the President of the Football
Federation of Armenia (FFA), Ruben Hayrapetyan, thanked all football
fans for support of the national team after they suffered a 2-1 highly
controversial defeat in the UEFA EURO 2012 qualifier against Ireland.

“I am grateful to and proud of all Armenian fans. We have strong and
devoted players, who deserve victories. But football has tough rules.

We must never despair but support our wonderful team,” Hayrapetyan
posted.

He said the FFA has protested the decision of Iturralde Gonzalez. “I
am not concerned whether this botcher will be punished. I want Roman
Berezovsky to be cleared of red card,” Hayrapetyan said.

He also noted he doesn’t believe that the UEFA could order the result
of the game. “Michel Platini is not the man who could venture such
an injustice,” he said.

Football Federation Of Armenia Appeals Against The Verdict By Eduard

FOOTBALL FEDERATION OF ARMENIA APPEALS AGAINST THE VERDICT BY EDUARDO ITURRALDE GONZALEZ

arminfo
Thursday, October 13, 13:08

The Football Federation of Armenia has appealed against the verdict
passed by referee Eduardo Iturralde Gonzalez during the Oct 11
Ireland-Armenia decider, President of the FFA Ruben Hayrapetyan writes
on his Facebook profile.

To remind, Gonzalez penalized Armenia’s goalkeeper Roman Berezovsky
with a red card for an alleged handball outside the scoring area.

The recording of the episode has shown that there was no handball on
Berezovsky’s part. Even more, in his interview to BBC Irish forward
Simon Cox has said that it was he who handed the ball.

Anyway, by his verdict Gonzalez gave Ireland one-man advantage and
bereft Armenia of the chance to qualify for the play-offs.

In his Facebook message Hayrapetyan says: “Dear football lovers,
I would like to thank you for continuing to support our team even
though it has failed. By doing this you have proved that you are
real football lovers. We are proud of you and happy to have such
supporters. Our players are strong and were worthy of victory. As
regards the referee, we have already appealed against his verdict. I
don’t care if that third-rater is punished or not. What I want is
that Berezovsky’s red card be annulled.

Concerning the rumored possibility of an order on UEFA’s part,
I assure you that there could be no order on UEFA’s part. Michel
Platini is not the man who can do such a thing.

In the end of this year we will organize an official awarding ceremony
for our players. I would like to thank Armenians all over the world
and wish them to be patient and loyal to our team.”

Meanwhile, passions have been high in Armenia during the last two
days. Our fans are indignant and are discussing the match everywhere,
first of all, on the internet. Some of them have created a special
Facebook community “We Hate Iturralde Gonzales” – a slogan that
reflects the prevalent moods among our fans.

ANKARA: EU Report On Turkey Out Of Focus, Turkish Minister Says

EU REPORT ON TURKEY OUT OF FOCUS, TURKISH MINISTER SAYS

Today’s Zaman, Turkey
Oct 12 2011

İstanbul. (Photo: Cihan)

Turkey’s EU Minister Egemen BagıÅ~_ criticized the European Union
after it expressed concern in a regular progress report over freedom
of expression and said Turkey should do more to normalize its relations
with Greek Cyprus.

BagıÅ~_, speaking at a press conference soon after the release of
the annual report in Brussels, said the report was out of focus.

“Although the report tries to take an objective and balanced picture of
Turkey, we think that the camera used by the commission is old with a
worn out lens and the lens needs to be changed, as the picture taken
has lots of blurred parts and the camera seems to be zooming on the
false points,” BagıÅ~_ said.

In its report, the European Commission urged the European Union to
continue accession talks with Turkey but said no progress was achieved
in the last year. It also expressed concern about tensions between
Ankara and EU-member Greek Cyprus. In a reference to a recent spat
over gas drilling rights in the eastern Mediterranean, the Commission
told Ankara to avoid threats that could further damage ties.

On individual freedoms, the report said “significant further
efforts are required to guarantee fundamental rights in most
areas,” highlighting in particular concerns in the area of freedom
of expression. “…The number of court cases against writers and
journalists and the still frequent disproportionate website bans
raised serious concerns,” the report said.

BagıÅ~_ said no journalist was in jail in Turkey for journalistic
activities, saying journalists do not have criminal immunity just
because they are journalists.

In addition to the EU’s reform concerns, ppposition from Greek
Cyprus as well as French and German reluctance to admit the largely
Muslim state are also a main obstacle to Turkish membership, with a
“privileged partnership” being mooted as an alternative to regular
membership.

“Full membership to the union is Turkey’s only goal, no other goals
can be accepted,” BagıÅ~_ told the news conference. “We hope that
the EU will soon emerge from its eclipse of the mind,” he added in
comments on the report.

EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule said both Brussels and Ankara
were frustrated by the lack of progress in Turkey’s EU accession. Just
under half of Turkey’s exports are sold to the European Union.

Turkey’s main opposition, the Republican People’s Party (CHP), suspects
the government of losing commitment to joining the European Union,
after successfully using EU-backed reforms to curb the military’s
powers, and reduce chances for a return to the era of coups.

“When we look at the present situation it is complete deadlock as far
as relations with the EU go,” CHP lawmaker Rıza Turmen told foreign
journalists in İstanbul on Monday.

Turmen also regarded as counterproductive a threat by the government
to freeze ties with the EU presidency when Greek Cyprus takes over
the rotating role in mid-2012.

CAB DRIVER ATTACKS WOMAN FOR BEING AN ‘INFIDEL’

Today’s Zaman, Turkey
Oct 12 2011

A Turkish citizen of Armenian descent was attacked by a cab driver
in İstanbul recently after being asked about her ethnicity.

According to a Radikal daily report on Wednesday, a woman took a cab
in a central location near the Zincirlikuyu Cemetery, and while inside
the taxi she was asked by the cab driver if she was Armenian or Jewish
“because she has an accent.”

After she replied that she is an Armenian, the cab driver asked:
“What does your holy book tell you? Who are you? Why are you here?”

The woman attempted to get out of the cab, but the driver tried to
prevent her from doing so and said: “You will burn in hell. You are
an infidel,” before suddenly taking a swing at her and then leaving
her in the middle of the street, according to the report.

A lawyer who was passing by helped her and took down the license
plate number of the taxi. The woman decided not to file a complaint at
the police station after finding out that the driver has a criminal
record. However, renowned lawyer Kezban Hatemi has convinced her to
pursue the case.
