U.S. Warning to Armenia: Ahead of Developments

U.S. Warning to Armenia: Ahead of Developments

  • Politics – , 18:04
The U.S. President Donald Trump has congratulated the Georgian prime minister  on the Independence Day.“Since independence, Georgia has emerged as a democratic leader and a contributor to global security,” the letter runs.“In a region that faces insecurity and outside pressure, Georgia has shown courage and determination in charting its own future. We will continue to support that choice, as Georgian independence and democracy remain an inspiration to the world. The United States also remains steadfast in supporting Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders,” Donald Trump states in the letter. There was a time when Armenia was a democratic leader or “island” in the region. In addition, this opinion was expressed in the first years following the independence of Armenia, during the war. Armenia and Artsakh won the war despite a lot of hardship because their fight was for democracy, sovereignty and human rights, in line with the development of the civilization, which was an important achievement of international security in our region. It was the victory of the new and progressive against the regressive and anti-human system and was therefore possible and legitimate. In those years Georgia was in chaos and anarchy and sovereignty and democracy were out of discussion. Georgia was losing everything. Years went by, Armenia lost everything that was the result of the heroism and faith in the future. After the victory the country was surrendered to the military oligarchy, then the criminal oligarchy.  In domestic life, gradually nothing was left of freedom, human rights and civilization. The constitutional order was destroyed, and most importantly, people’s faith and motivation was destroyed, which is the basis of all progress. Currently Armenia has appeared on the anti-civilization camp while Georgia has leaped to escape tis system. Georgia has thus appeared in the side which is building the new world order with the ensuing preferences in security and economy. And on the contrary, Armenia has appeared on the side which is going to be the “object” for the creation of the new world order with the ensuing consequences. Armenia is already experiencing the consequences in the sphere of economy and security. Trump’s letter to Georgia should be a warning for Armenia which has been pushed back by external pressure and chosen a system which is outside international security and sovereignty.

BAKU: Will Armenia sign an agreement with the European Union?

Turan Information Agency, Azerbaijan
 Friday
Will Armenia sign an agreement with the European Union?
Yerevan / 26.05.17 / Turan: The European Union is full of hopes that
this time Armenia will sign a new comprehensive and expanded
partnership agreement. David McAllister, head of the Foreign Affairs
Committee of the European Parliament, said this at a press conference
in Yerevan. Answering the question of Radio Liberty, he said that he
came to this conviction after discussions with Armenian President
Serzh Sargsyan.
"Yes, Armenia is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, we know what
happened in 2013. But now President Sargsyan is ready to sign an
ambitious agreement with the European Union, which is important for
us, for the European Union," McAllister said.
It should be reminded that the European Union negotiated with Armenia
about the Association Agreement. However, in September 2013, after
almost 3.5 years of negotiations, unexpectedly, Serzh Sargsyan stated
that Armenia prefers to join the Eurasian Economic Union headed by
Russia.
At the same time, Armenian politicians admitted that in case of
refusal from the union with Russia, Moscow threatened Yerevan with the
loss of Karabakh.-02D-

Entertainment: Comedian Kev Orkian to release film ‘Armenia Uncovered’

Public Radio of Armenia
09:16,

Asbarez – Comedian Kev Orkian is so proud of his Armenian heritage, he’s on a mission to tell the world about his homeland and its talented people in an exciting new film‒Armenia Uncovered‒to be released in early 2018.

“The film, ‘The Promise’ tells the world about the Genocide and our history a century ago and it’s something we’ll never forget, but there’s another story waiting to be told and it’s about Armenia today!” said Kev. “I want to take viewers on a tour of our incredible country which was part of an ancient Armenian kingdom for thousands of years. We have such a dynamic culture, stunning scenery, a vibrant city nightlife, and the most generous and hospitable people on the planet and that needs to be told,” he added.

With an estimated 10 million Armenians in the diaspora and only a small percentage having visited Armenia, Kev wants to introduce his people to their homeland, by taking viewers on an hilarious ride across the country, to find out what makes Armenians so Armenian.

“We are one of the most fragmented populations on earth and we suffer from a bit of an identity crisis. I want to get to the bottom of some of the funny customs we engage in and show the world what a beautiful country we have and who knows, tourism could soon take off and that’s got to be great news for the people and the economy,” Kev said.

Kev will be joined on his travels by an extensive film crew as he meets taxi drivers, farmers, chefs, wine makers, pop stars, sport stars, super models, and an opera singer – you name it – if it’s good, Kev will uncover it.

“I want the world to know there’s a lot more to us than apricots and eyebrows,” he laughs.

“I’ve been told Armenia has more doctors per capita than any other country. We’re a highly skilled and educated nation with a booming IT industry and home to some of the smartest brains in the world. The MRI machine, the ATM machine and Colour TV are just some of the incredible inventions from Armenian minds and these stories need to be told,” he explained.

Kev has already interviewed several leading Amercian-Armenian artists like Sebu Simonian from the band Capital Cities, the hugely popular Tamar Kaprelian, and the legendary Armenchik.

“To hear these guys speak passionately about their homeland brought tears to my eyes,” Kev said.

But to appreciate everything great about Armenia today, according to Kev, viewers need to know about the country’s past.

“My great grandparents were killed in the Genocide and I don’t think any tourist should go to Armenia without visiting the Memorial and museum. I see this film as an awesome opportunity to continue to raise awareness for Genocide recognition around the world,” said Kev.

Another key story Kev wants to share, is that of the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Republic.

“Besides Yerevan, we want to get out of the city and visit as many rural villages and towns as we can and if we’re lucky, we’d love to go all the way to Stepanakert – the most beautiful city in Artsakh,” he said.

A lot of work has already gone in to making the film and for the past year Kev has been busy producing a series of promo videos to raise awareness.

“One of the first promos we released online has reached over 1.3 million people, so I guess you could say there is definitely a huge interest out there,” Kev said.

Plans are now underway for Kev to return to Armenia in August to complete work on the film, with many Armenian celebrities and stories now confirmed.

To produce a world class documentary like this requires a lot of funding and Kev and his production team have made it to this point without any sponsorship.

“We wanted to make this film as independent and unbiased as possible and not fill it with unnecessary commercial content for the sake of it and for this reason we’ve decided to Crowd Fund it. Whatever we raise will go 100 per cent towards helping us cover the costs associated with flights, accommodation, film crews in America, England and Armenia and all of the expenses associated with editing, post production and promotion,” Kev said.

but also it was not implementing the agreements reached in Vienna and
Saint Petersburg,” told Shirak Torosyan to Aravot.am.
Pursuant to him, after the April war, the behavior of Azerbaijan
forced OSCE Minsk group to make an addressed assessment.

BAKU: Expected escalation

Turan Information Agency, Azerbaijani Opposition
 Friday
Expected escalation
by Turan Analytical Service
The 25th anniversary of the seizure by the Armed Forces of Armenia of
the Lachin region of Azerbaijan was marked by a military-diplomatic
escalation in the zone of the Karabakh conflict.
The Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group (MG) made a statement on this
issue on May 18, the tone of which speaks of excessive tension not
only on both sides of the contact of the fire, but also in the camp of
the mediating countries wedged between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
We condemn the recent violations of the ceasefire agreement and call
on the parties to take all necessary measures to prevent further
escalation in the conflict zone, the joint statement of the
representatives of the United States, Russia and France says.
According to the MG"s information gathered from several reliable
sources, on May 15, the Azerbaijani armed forces fired a missile at
the contact line, destroying the military equipment of the Armenian
side. In the evening of May 16 and May 17, the Armenian armed forces
struck back with mortar fire of various calibers. These actions
constitute significant violations of the ceasefire on both sides and
are a cause for concern, the statement said.
On May 15 the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan promptly reported that
the antiaircraft missile system "OCA" of the Armenian antiaircraft
forces on the same day was taken to a new position in the
Fuzuli-Khojevend direction of the front, and an attempt was made to
take control of Azerbaijan's airspace. "In order to prevent the threat
to Azerbaijani aircraft and suppress enemy activity, the anti-aircraft
missile system" OSA "and the transport-loading machine were completely
put out of action by fire, the personnel was destroyed."
The question arises as to what purpose the Armenian command put
forward to the advanced positions of the Antiaircraft missile complex
(AMC), which, according to Turan, actually took place. It is possible
that these actions pursued the goal of seizing the position,
convenient destruction of Azerbaijani unmanned vehicles, which until
now have not been reached for Armenian air defense. It is possible
that the Armenian side checked the ability of the Azerbaijani army to
fight against closed, closed targets.
In any case, the moving of the missile launcher to the line of contact
was provocative and resulted in unnecessary casualties among Armenian
Armed Forces personnel, which official Yerevan does not recognize.
This event shows that the parties to the conflict have not changed
their military-political approach to the conflict settlement 25 years
after the occupation of Lachin, which initiated the occupation of the
entire Karabakh region, a bloody war and the long-standing destructive
confrontation between the two South Caucasian states.
The military escalation that took place on May 15-17 was expected in
the light of the March official and unofficial statements of the sides
about the readiness to strike at the infrastructure facilities in the
depths for hundreds of kilometers. They sounded on the eve of the
first anniversary of the April battles, which marked the beginning of
another round of the arms race and mutual threats.
In the article "The April war - the tendency to escalate" of the
analytical service of Turan on April 2, 2017, conclusions were drawn
about strengthening the force line of Armenia and Azerbaijan in the
context of the conflict settlement, the military component of the
Karabakh settlement and the development of much larger events of
military significance.
A tough assessment of the reaction of the co-chairs of the MG by the
Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan and the principled position regarding
the incident, which was expressed in this quote: "The armed forces of
the Azerbaijan Republic are in the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan
and against the backdrop of the occupation of Azerbaijani territories
by Armenia, they provide defense of our country and the security of
the civilian population," testify coming new escalations of a military
nature with the observer position of international observers.

Armenia one of first six countries to sign CoE Convention on Offences relating to Cultural Property

Six states signed today in Nicosia (Cyprus) the .

Armenia, Cyprus, Greece, Portugal and San Marino as well as Mexico, one of the Organisation’s observer states, were the first to sign the convention, which is open for signature to any country in the world.

Adopted in the framework of the Council of Europe’s action to fight terrorism and organised crime, the new convention seeks to stop the looting of antiquities and their trafficking through the art markets. It makes a criminal offence their unlawful excavation, importation and exportation, acquisition and placing on the market, and the falsification of documents in this context.

By bringing national legislations up to the same standards, the treaty will close the existing loopholes and enable much more effective cross-border co-operation in investigating, prosecuting and sentencing persons suspected of the offences listed in the convention.

Crucially, the convention protects the cultural property of any state, be it party or not to the treaty.

The signing took place in Nicosia during a Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers meeting bringing together Foreign affairs Ministers of the Organisation’s 47 Member States. The treaty will enter into force after five ratifications.

The new treaty fills a gap in international law, since none of the existing conventions deal with criminal law issues. It complements the 1970 UNESCO Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property, the 1972 UNESCO Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage and the 1995 UNIDROIT Convention on Stolen or Illegally Exported Cultural Objects.
Protection of cultural heritage is important for the Armenian people that have suffered immense losses of cultural legacy throughout its history and most recently in Azerbaijan by the hands of its government and in Syria by the terrorist groups. In this regard we welcome the adoption of the Convention on Offences relating to Cultural Property,” Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian.
