ARCHBISHOP CHOLOYAN: NORMALIZATION OF ARMENIA-TURKEY RELATIONS IS ALL-ARMENIAN ISSUE

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Normalization of the Armenia-Turkey relations is
an All-Armenian issue, Archbishop Oshakan Choloyan, the Primate
of the Eastern Diocese of the U.S. of the Great House of Cilicia
said. He praised highly the initiative of the Armenian President to
meet with representatives of Diaspora and hear their views on the
Armenian-Turkish Protocols. Archbishop Choloyan characterized as
natural the reaction of Armenian communities, being concerned over
the future of Armenia.

""It’s positive that Serge Sargsyan is trying to settle relations
between countries, but it shouldn’t be at the cost of the Armenian
Genocide," Oshakan Choloyan said. This will be the first document in
the history to be signed between Turkey and Armenia, he said. Prior to
that, the Armenian side had not participated in negotiation processes,
and then the countries signed a document, the Treaty of Kars, which
was signed by Turkey and Russia. As Archbishop Choloyan noticed,
the president’s visit to the Armenian communities is another reason
to carefully discuss the Armenian-Turkish Protocols.

Serzh Sargsyan continues his pan-Armenian tour in support of the
pre-signed Armenian-Turkish Protocols. Mr. Sargsyan made the second
stop in New York, where he met with representatives of the Armenian
communities of the East Coast and Canada.

Serzh Sargsyan is escorted by President of the RA Constitutional Court
Gagik harutiunian, NKR’s ex President Arkadi Ghukasian, Minister of
Diaspora Hranush Hakobian.

Turning to the process of normalization of the Armenian-Turkish
relations and the concerns connected with the pre-signed Protocols,
Serzh Sargsyan once again underlined that Armenia moves forward to
establish relations with Turkey without preconditions.

"I think we have managed to get the maximum at this point," said Serzh
Sargsyan, referring to the concerns that it was possible to arrive at
a more-pro-Armenian document as a result of the Armenian-Turkish talks.

"When we voted for Armenia’s independence most of us had concerns about
the future as nothing was calculated to the end. Similarly, during
the Karabakh war we fought for Karabakh’s independence and right to
self-determination with many concerns left behind. But we believed our
cause and the struggle was crowned with success," noted Mr. Sargsyan.

Serzh Sargsyan underlined that the fact of the Genocide could not
be discussed within the framework of normalization of relations
with Turkey.

Summing up the meeting in New York, Serzh Sargsyan said: "The most
important for us is to be able to be strong enough to understand each
other in this responsible phase. I believe in the bright future of
Armenia. I believe because I see the correct path."

The 4th of October is the Animal Welfare International Day. Each year
since 1996 the International Companion Animal Welfare Conference
(ICAWC) is held in which the largest animal welfare international
organisations and representatives of local organisations from almost
50 countries around the world come together.

ICAWC is the leading conference of its kind. It is held in a different
European city each year and provides a platform where delegates working
in the field of animal welfare, exchange knowledge and experience,
establish the international and regional cooperation.

One of the main focuses of the 11th Conference will be on the
importance of understanding the issues in animal welfare, breeding
control and neutering.

Topics include public health and safety as well as implementation of
the education programs, publicity, and promotion of legislation.

Armenia is the only country of the Council of Europe which never took
part in Conference. Armenia has an opportunity on participation at
this year’s Conference.

Considering the problem of stray dogs is bad in Armenia and also till
now the attempts to solve a problem are countereffective, a number of
the international organisations have offered the partnership to the
Municipality of Yerevan in developing and implementing of the complex
program on the problem solving of the stray dogs population control.

03.10.2009 15:09 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ RA President Serzh Sargsyan’s meeting with Europe’s
Armenian community representatives in Paris did not particularly
affect Diaspora’s position on Armenian-Turkish Protocols, Head of
Armenians’ Union in Italy Paykar Svazlyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net
reporter.

At that he found Diaspora’s demands for receiving Armenian
authorities’ explanations natural. `Diaspora’s reaction is a
psychological complex which should be overcome through a dialogue,’
Svazlyan noted.

According to him, Turkey is attempting to exert pressure on
Armenia. `We must be strong enough to resist all that with united
efforts,’ he said, considering Armenia’s desire to normalize ties with
Turkey quite natural.

During RA President’s meeting with Europe’s Armenian community,
Armenians’ Union of Italy was represented by RA Honored Consul in
Milano Pietro Kuchukyan.
