Though 7-15% of children and adolescents in Armenia have serious
mental health problems, the parents don’t want to see the specialists
to avoid the "labeling", said the Chairman of the Pediatrists and
Children Psychologists’ Organization Eghia Marukian. She also added
that though in Armenia was not recorded a large number of children
suicides, the reason of those suicides were not examined yet. Marukian
informed that there was not a culture of taking the services of
psychologists and psychiatrists in Armenia yet.
Together with the World Psychiatric Association they realized an
amendment project related to the protection of mental health of
children. A project titled "Amendments in Children and Adolescents’
Mental Health Sphere in Armenia" has already been worked out.
The aim of this project is to create a working network of children’s
mental health services and to deepen the cooperation with the public
and state institutions.
