"Armenian soldier wounded in Iraq is still undergoing medical
treatment in USA and will be back home after getting accustomed to
the prosthesis. We have a few positions suitable for him to continue
the service", – the Defense Minister of Armenia Mikael Haroutunyan
informed journalists today. Concerning plans on the formation of
professional army on the basis of peacekeeping battalion the Defense
Minister noted: "The project is to form not a professional army on
the basis of peacekeeping battalion but a peacekeeping brigade. The
peacekeeping battalion plays a huge role in armed forces and we make
all efforts to keep it stable and competent".
What comes to accomplishment of Armenian peace-makers’ mission,
M.Haroutunyan said: "They’ll be back in due time. Now they act
according to parliamentary decision and when the term’s over we’ll
negotiate and make new decisions. May be the peacekeepers will return
in half a year, may be a year or five. This is an open issue".
