Azerbaijan, Baku/ Trend , corr. S. Aghayeva/ Robert Simmons, the
Special Envoy of the NATO Secretary General to South Caucasus, has
stated that the Azerbaijan Defence Ministry is carrying out works with
some NATO member-states on acquiring a corresponding status for one of
the airdromes based in the country, Trend reports.
According to him, the airdrome may accept the status for further
redeployment of NATO Forces to Afghanistan. Negotiations on this issue
will be resumed soon. The implementation of the project on utilization
of jet and rocket fuel is expected to be completed in Azerbaijan by
2008. He expressed a wish that owing to the implementation of the
above-mentioned project, all reserves of this dangerous kind of fuel
called `Melange’ would be rooted out .Mr. Simmons once more stressed
that NATO did not have any military plans toward Iran, however, he
emphasized, if the U. S. Security Council impose sanctions on this
country, then all NATO member-states will certainly support them.
