We reaffirm our readiness to jointly form sovereignty

We reaffirm our readiness to jointly shape the agenda of Armenia’s sovereignty with the opposition political and public forces and coordinate the steps for its implementation. The party “Eaves of Unity” issued a statement about this.

“The “Wings of Unity” party has repeatedly come out publicly with the proposal to unite on issues of national significance. Today, we reaffirm our readiness to jointly shape the agenda for the protection of Armenia’s sovereignty, state security, constitutional order and national identity together with the opposition political and public forces and coordinate the steps for its implementation.

The existence of political disagreements, disagreements on many previous issues cannot be decisive for uniting the motherland in a crisis situation.

The need for this consolidation is due to the interrelated dangers of external coercion and internal political pressure. In our assessment, the government, instead of accepting its own political responsibility, exclusively presents the fulfillment of another demand of foreign forces as an inevitable condition for maintaining peace, and the forces resisting this policy as obstacles to peace, limiting the possibility of free discussion and political opposition on decisions of state importance.

In Armenian society, there is no and cannot be a demand to abandon the declaration of independence. Therefore, such an agenda is the agenda of our foreign enemies, which serves the current government, and any such concession will lead to new demands and concessions.

In this context, we also evaluate the investigative actions carried out on November 4 against Samvel Karapetyan and his related persons. Without expressing a position on the criminal-legal circumstances of the case, their volume and political environment give grounds for assessing that the objective of weakening the opposition’s resistance and creating favorable internal political conditions for constitutional changes is pursued.

Talks of exerting “public pressure” on the opposition and leading it by the ruling majority deepen this concern. We strongly condemn any practice of using state leverage to oppress opponents, restrict political dissent, and replace public discussion with an atmosphere of fear.

Faithful to our public position and noting that the “Wings of Unity” party was informed by the press about the joint statement of the opposition forces on November 4, we are ready to participate in consolidation initiatives based on these principles.

That cooperation should be built on:

a clear general agenda,

equality of participants,

on mutual respect and accountability to the public, being open to citizen participation as well.

Our goal is joint political work and concerted actions to protect Armenia’s sovereignty and constitutional order, strengthen national solidarity and achieve a dignified and stable peace without external coercion and concessions at the expense of national and state interests,” the statement said.
