Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, accompanied by senior government officials, including Speaker of Parliament Ruben Rubinyan, toured Yerevan on October 24, speaking with residents of the Ajapnyak administrative district, where he presented an idea for building a new residential district through an investment project, subject to residents’ consent.

Pashinyan said one possible approach would involve direct negotiations between investors and residents.

“A major investment project is needed, with investors coming in and negotiating directly with you, without the state getting involved. They could either buy your homes from you or commit to providing you with homes in a newly constructed building,” Pashinyan said.

Under the option he outlined, temporary accommodation for residents would also have to be provided during construction. The Prime Minister emphasized that residents’ consent would be a prerequisite, adding that this would make it possible to build a district based on an entirely new concept.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
