Andranik Gevorgyan, a lawmaker from the opposition Strong Armenia faction, has named three women who he says were dismissed from their jobs because of their political views ahead of the June 7 parliamentary elections.
Gevorgyan identified Serine Manukyan, a teacher at the Amalya Karapetyan Kindergarten in the northern town of Stepanavan, and nurses Manushak Lalazaryan and Olga Sahakyan, who worked at the local polyclinic.
According to Gevorgyan, Manukyan was fired over a photo taken with Narek Karapetyan, the leader of the Strong Armenia faction.
Gevorgyan said Manukyan was told that the person she had photographed with “should find her a job”. He also said Lalazaryan, a nurse with 38 years of service, and Sahakyan lost their jobs because of their political views.
The lawmaker’s remarks came in response to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s call for candidates and voters who say they have faced unlawful pressure during local elections to report such incidents directly to him at [email protected].
Pashinyan pledged that any official found responsible for substantiated violations would face accountability.
The prime minister has also urged voters to reject candidates who use administrative resources, threats, coercion or vote-buying to influence elections, saying the appeal applies to candidates from his own Civil Contract party as well.
