Armenians held captive in Baku are subjected to torture and cruel treatment, according to findings and assessments by human rights defenders and various reports, writes Tigran Abrahamyan, a former Member of the National Assembly and member of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).
He noted that Siranush Sahakyan, who represents the interests of Armenian captives before the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), recently provided further details on the matter.
“The prompt repatriation of these individuals is critical, not only because their detention is entirely unlawful, but also because their lives and health are under constant threat. Given that the current regime in the Republic of Armenia has failed to put this issue on the agenda, the rights of these individuals continue to be completely violated, while official Baku exploits the issue as it sees fit, including using it against the Republic of Armenia,” Abrahamyan added.
