Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, stated on Friday, October 16, in an interview with Armenpress, Armenia’s official state news agency, that Tehran has concerns regarding any US presence in its surrounding regions and is closely monitoring developments related to the “Trump Route for Peace and Prosperity” project.

Referring to direct contact between Tehran and Armenian officials, Araghchi said the Islamic Republic trusts the country’s officials and is confident that they will not take any action against Iran’s security. He added that consultations between the two countries on this issue will continue.

The Islamic Republic’s Foreign Minister also referenced the recent visit of Ararat Mirzoyan, Armenia’s Foreign Minister, to Tehran, noting that both sides held constructive discussions. According to Araghchi, Masoud Pezeshkian is also scheduled to meet with the Prime Minister of Armenia.

Pezeshkian traveled to Yerevan on Friday to attend the UN Convention on Biological Diversity summit.

The “Trump Route for Peace and Prosperity” project is part of a regional transport connectivity initiative planned to pass through southern Armenia, facilitating a connection between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan. Pursued within the framework of an agreement between Armenia and the US, the project has raised concerns in Tehran regarding the security and geopolitical implications of a US presence in the region since its inception.
