On August 16, the National Costume Festival will take place in “Yeraz Aygi”, which will unite the Armenian national costume, traditional crafts, music, ethnodesign and the centuries-old tradition of Grape Blessing on one platform.
The organizers of the festival are “Teryan Cultural Center” and “Yeraz Aygi”. “Teryan Cultural Center” has been organizing the National Costume Festival for many years, making it a unique platform for the presentation of Armenian cultural heritage, traditional crafts and modern ethno-design.
This year’s first festival coincides with one of the important holidays of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church, the Feast of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin and the Blessing of Grapes.
Grape blessing is one of the most beloved and beautiful traditional holidays of the Armenian people. After the Holy Liturgy, the ceremony of blessing the grapes is performed in the churches, and the blessed grapes are distributed to the people. Over the centuries, this holiday has become a symbol not only of church, but also of national culture, traditions and celebrating together.
On that day, from morning to evening, a festive environment filled with Armenian culture will be created. Visitors will have the opportunity to get acquainted with traditional Armenian crafts, watch the work of masters, see the process of creating national dolls and handicrafts, as well as meet the people who preserve and continue traditional Armenian crafts today.
One of the key events of the festival will be the exhibition of the National costume. Designers creating in ethno style will present their collections, and “Teryan Cultural Center” will present its new collection of national costumes.
For the center, each new collection is not only a fashion show, but also the result of the continuous work of studying, restoring and publicizing the Armenian cultural heritage. Through the collections, the costume characteristics of different regions of Armenia are presented: colors, shapes, ornaments and the stories related to them.
The festival will also have a concert program. The Ethno Colors band will participate in the musical part of the day, which has been cooperating with “Teryan Cultural Center” for many years and gives a special touch to the center’s festivals with its music.
At the same time, this grape blessing event will signal the beginning of the big festival season of “Teryan Cultural Center”.
TarazFest in Meghri with participants from CIS countries is planned next, and after that, Future of the Past international festival.
The implementation of the event is also supported by “Nika Foundation”, a partner of “Teryan Cultural Center”, which continuously supports the center’s initiatives and implementation of cultural programs.
The festival will provide an opportunity to discover different layers of Armenian culture in one day, from national costumes and traditional crafts to music and the centuries-old tradition of the blessing of grapes.
