President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Petra Bayr has congratulated Ruben Rubinyan on his election as Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, wishing him success in carrying out his responsibilities.

According to the National Assembly’s Public Relations and Communication Department, Bayr praised the Armenian parliament’s commitment to the work of PACE, noting that Rubinyan’s long-standing involvement in the Assembly, including as one of its vice-presidents and as head of the Armenian parliamentary delegation, provides a strong foundation for further strengthening effective bilateral cooperation.

Bayr reaffirmed PACE’s continued support and readiness to work closely with the National Assembly of Armenia to promote the shared values of democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
