The Foreign Relations Committee of the House of Representatives of the US Congress has adopted a corresponding bill, calling on Azerbaijan to immediately release the Armenian hostages. This is reported by ANCA.
“Azerbaijan’s release of Armenian hostages, the safe return of Artsakh refugees and the withdrawal of Azerbaijani occupation forces from the territory of Armenia are unconditional preconditions for peace and not a bargaining tool of Baku, with which the latter forces Armenia to make unilateral concessions,” ANCA Executive Director Aram Hambaryan noted.
The Parliament of Azerbaijan, as expected, reacted negatively to these developments. They described the adoption of the bill as “an attempt to turn the US Congress into an instrument of political pressure on Azerbaijan in the interests of the Armenian lobby.”
Baku “expressed particular indignation over the use of the terms “prisoners of war” and “political prisoners” in the bill.”
