U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Iran with further military action later on July 8 while speaking to reporters alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara.

The remarks were reported by the BBC.

“We hit them very hard last night, very, very hard,” Trump said.

He added that the United States would most likely launch another round of powerful strikes against Iran later in the evening.

“I gave them a little warning: we’re going to hit them hard again tonight,” Trump said.

U.S. forces overnight on July 8 struck around 80 targets in Iran in response to the recent targeting of three vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran, in turn, launched retaliatory strikes targeting 85 U.S. military facilities across the region. The United States also cancelled plans to ease oil-related sanctions on Iran.

Against the backdrop of the latest escalation, Trump said the ceasefire with Iran was no longer in effect and that Washington no longer intended to hold negotiations with Tehran.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
