ISLAMABAD: Armenia has appointed Karen Grigoryan as its first-ever ambassador to Pakistan.
According to a presidential decree, Grigoryan, who serves as Armenia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Arab Emirates, will also serve as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Pakistan, with residence in Abu Dhabi.
Pakistan and Armenia officially established diplomatic relations in August last year. Earlier, Pakistan was the only UN member state that did not recognise Armenia’s independence due to the former’s strong support to Azerbaijan against Armenia in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. However, following Azerbaijan’s full restoration of control in Nagorno-Karabakh and a peace agreement between the two nations, Pakistan and Armenia established diplomatic ties.
