Why did they remove Amiryan’s surname? Karen Igityan

June: 27, 2026

Caucasian scholar Karen Igityan writes: “Why did they remove Amiryan’s last name? Everything is clear. He does not like the Aliyev regime, and therefore also the Pashinyan one. The Aliyev regime invented the “genocide committed by the Armenians of Baku” in 1918, and declared the Armenians, the leaders of the Baku commune, including Amiryan, guilty. In addition, the Azerbaijani propaganda machine declared Tadevos Amirov, the commander of the cavalry detachment, Arsen Amiryan’s brother, a separate enemy from the others.

Therefore, this “simple name change” has two implications. on the one hand, to remove Amiryan as a symbol of Baku Armenians and erase their role in the Baku Commune, which is an irritating factor for Aliyev and his “West Azerbaijanis”, and on the other hand, the Pope symbolizes the struggle against the Church, which is also understandable in the current political context of Armenia.

The man with the hat (fur hat) is Tadevos Amirov, the other photo is Arsen Amiryan.”
