Armenia is preparing for the 2029 World Youth Football Championship.

At the June 25 meeting, the government approved the start of the design of a new ten thousand-seat stadium in Ijevan that meets UEFA standards.

After the approval by FIFA of Armenia and Georgia’s request to hold the World Cup jointly, Yerevan has activated the infrastructure development process. One of the main prerequisites for hosting the tournament is the presence of UEFA fourth-class stadiums.

As the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan stated at the government session, the land acquisition works in Ijevan have already been completed, and around one hundred and seventy-seven million drams from the state budget will be allocated for the development of design budget documents.

The design process will be entrusted to the international company “VenueEra Holding”, which has experience in the construction of large international stadiums in Budapest, Saudi Arabia and St. Petersburg. This same organization is already involved in the reconstruction project of the Vanadzor stadium. At present, negotiations are underway to jointly implement the actual construction phase.

Presenting the details of this large infrastructural project, the head of the department emphasized that the works started early, and the project of the Vanadzor stadium will be completely ready within the next month or two. Speaking about the new Alena of Ijevan, the minister noted.

“As a result of this decision, we will be able to urgently start and implement the construction project of a 10,000-seat UEFA-standard football stadium in Ijevan, guaranteeing its completion by January 2029.”
