New political status quo. What does high participation suggest?

As of 14:00, participation in the National Assembly elections was 847,226 voters or 33.84 percent.

For comparison, let’s note that the final participation in the 2021 parliamentary elections was only 49.4 percent.

Today’s dynamics already prove that the citizens of Armenia are actively and consciously participating in shaping the country’s future.

If this dynamic of participation is maintained until the end of the voting, the final figure may reach 55-60 percent or more.

Such participation contains a clear political message.

First of all, high participation proves that there is a clear demand for changes and justice in the society. Citizens want to influence the ongoing processes with their voice and decide the future direction of the country’s development.

The second important circumstance is the relative weakening of the influence of the administrative resource. The higher the voter turnout, the more difficult it becomes to determine the outcome of the elections only with the administrative and repressive levers of the government. In these conditions, the free and conscious expression of the citizens becomes decisive, and the political competition acquires a more real and equal character.

Thirdly, it is already clear that the electoral struggle is mainly focused around several major political poles. Under existing electoral thresholds, high turnout usually favors the concentration of votes among major powers and limits the opportunities of smaller powers. Therefore, the scenario is realistic that a maximum of four influential political forces will be represented in the future National Assembly.

Armenia is facing extremely complex challenges today: security threats, foreign political anxieties, socio-economic problems and deep social polarization. Under these conditions, the country does not need another political monopoly, but a national agreement based on state thinking and responsible management.

This public activism obliges all opposition political forces to show responsibility to capitalize on political change

The country is on the verge of change or establishing a new political status quo. Society demands a new quality policy and responsible management.
