Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who is currently on leave and serves as chairman of the board of the Civil Contract party, said during an election campaign event in the Tavush community of Berdavan that major developments are expected in the near future, including the launch of border delimitation.

He said that the delimitation process would restore the line that existed during the Soviet era.

“Peace is established on the basis that Armenia and Azerbaijan recognise each other’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and borders. This means that the border will be what it was in Soviet Armenia. Delimitation will begin in the north and continue all the way to the border with Iran. In the sections where we begin implementing the TRIPP project, we will carry out delimitation in short segments. For the remaining sections, we will have to sit down and work through them,” he said, adding that Berdavan does not face such an issue, whereas a similar issue exists in Artsvashen.

According to Pashinyan, he has his own understanding of the delimitation process and believes that Azerbaijan’s understanding is the same.

“My understanding is that we should resolve the issue now in such a way that 10 years, 20 years, 30 years, 50 years or even 100 years from now, a conflict does not reignite over a single tree or a single bush,” Pashinyan added.

The election campaign for Armenia’s parliamentary elections, scheduled for June 7, began on May 8 and will continue until June 5. A total of 19 political forces — including two alliances and 17 parties — have registered to participate in the elections.

The Civil Contract party is running under ballot number 16 with the slogan “Stand up for Peace”.

The party has submitted to the Central Electoral Commission an electoral list comprising 283 candidates, as well as a separate list of 10 candidates representing national minorities. The party’s candidate for prime minister is Nikol Pashinyan.
