Armenia will host the “European Archaeology Days” event from June 12 to 14, the country’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports said.
According to the ministry, the three-day programme will take place at various archaeological sites, reserve-museums, museums and other cultural venues across the country.
A number of organisations engaged in archaeology in Armenia have joined the initiative, including the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, the Scientific Research Center for Historical and Cultural Heritage, the History Museum of Armenia, the local lore museums of Lori-Pambak, Dilijan and Yeghegnadzor, as well as the Yerevan History Museum. The events are intended for all age groups and for those interested in archaeology.
This will be the fourth consecutive year that Armenia has taken part in the “European Archaeology Days” initiative.
The programme offers the public an opportunity to explore the field of archaeology through visits to excavation sites and archaeological research centres. Meetings with archaeologists and restorers of archaeological finds will also be organised, alongside a range of educational activities, including excavations, exhibitions, workshops and hiking tours.
Since 2010, France’s Ministry of Culture has entrusted the coordination and promotion of the “European Archaeology Days” initiative to the National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (Inrap).
