A commemorative event marking the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was held on April 24 at the Armenian Pantheon of Tbilisi, also known as Khojivank.
Armenian Ambassador to Georgia Ashot Smbatyan and embassy staff laid a wreath at the khachkar (cross-stone) memorial honoring the victims of the Armenian Genocide, the embassy reported.
Heads and members of diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia, as well as representatives of the Armenian community in Georgia, also paid their respects and laid flowers.
Aram Mikayelyan, a representative of the Armenian community in Georgia and an actor at the Petros Adamyan Tbilisi State Armenian Drama Theatre, stated in his speech that on April 24, in the Republic of Armenia and in nearly all countries around the world where Armenians live, the Armenian people commemorate the victims of the Armenian Genocide carried out in the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of the 20th century.
Duduk artists Harutyun Chkolyan and Karen Sirakanyan, who arrived from Armenia, performed musical pieces at the memorial event.
