YEREVAN, APRIL 21, ARMENPRESS: The President of the European Armenian
Federation for Justice and Democracy (EAFJD) Kaspar Karapetian
commented on the possible recognition of the Armenian Genocide by
the Federal Republic of Germany.

“We hope that on the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide,
Germany will recognize it. After the statement of the Pope Francis of
Rome and the adoption of the resolution at the European Parliament,
all the signs show that Germany will recognize the Armenian Genocide.

We expect that on April 23 the President of Germany Joachim Gauck
will do the right thing and the Government and Bundestag of Germany
will adopt a fair resolution on Genocide recognition on April 24. The
recognition by Germany may pave the way for the reconciliation of
Turkey with its past”, – said Kaspar Karapetian, Armenpress reports,
citing the website of the Armenian National Committee.

Reuters informed on April 20 that the Chancellor Angela Merkel’s
spokesman Steffen Seibert said the government would support a
resolution in parliament on April 24, declaring the 1915 events an
example of genocide.
