ARMENIA TO CONTINUE CONTRIBUTING TO INTERNATIONAL SECURITY IN AFGHANISTAN

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 23, ARMENPRESS: The activity term of the Armenian
peacemakers in Afghanistan expires on December 31 2014, though the
Armenian detachment will continue contributing to the international
security. The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia has ratified
the agreement, signed by the letter exchange on December 5 and 6
2014, on the regulation of the legal issues of the participation
of the Armed Forces detachment of the Republic of Armenia in the
“decisive support” mission of the NATO in Afghanistan.
Armenpress reports that on September 30 2014 an agreement was signed
between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the Islamic Republic
of Afghanistan, which will come into force from January 1 2015 and
will serve a legal base for the status of the Armenian servicemen
during their stay in Afghanistan.
The Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia have been participating
in the international peacekeeping missions since 2004. Now Armenian
peacekeepers carry out their mission in Lebanon and Kosovo as well.
