POLITICAL EXPERT: WITH IRAKLIY ALASANIA’A RESIGNATION WE DOUBT ABOUT TBILISI’S ADHERENCE TO THE PROCESS OF THE EUROPEAN INTEGRATION

With Georgian Defense Minister Irakliy Alasania’a resignation we doubt
about Tbilisi’s adherence to the process of the European integration,
Georgian political expert, Giya Nodia, told Arminfo correspondent.
He said that the political leadership of the country have decided to
replace Irakliy Alasaniya as he is a rather influential politician
with high rating. The “Free Democrats” party has left the coalition
together with Alasaniya.
‘The formal reason of Alasaniya’s resignation is the arrest of several
officials in the Defense Ministry for corruption. But everybody
understand that a political motivation is behind that. They simply
wanted to get rid of him. One thing is clear that “Free Democrats”
and Alasaniya’s staying within the coalition guaranteed Georgia’s
remaining committed to the process of the European integration and
rapprochement with NATO. But with Irakliy Alasania’a resignation
we doubt about Tbilisi’s adherence to the process of the European
integration”, – Nodiya said. He also added that the ideas about the
Kremlin’s direct immixture in these process is hypothesis.
