Some 1,500 university students will have their tuition fees paid by
government, minister

YEREVAN, August 25. / ARKA /. The government will pay the tuition fees
of some 1,500 university students with good academic performance from
unsecured families in the amount of 50-100% of the fee in 2014-2015
school year, minister of education and science Armen Ashotyan said
today.

He said this year the number of such students has nearly doubled from
800 in 2013.

“We even had to gradually lower the bar because of the shortage of
students with excellent performance. As a result even students with
satisfactory grades had their fees paid, “Ashotyan said at a press
conference on Monday.

He said this number is expected to reach 2400 next year. Currently
about 20 percent of state-owned universities enjoy various fee payment
privileges.

He also said the highest tuition fee ceiling will be announced in
November based on type of education and university. -0-

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
