A number of terrorist organizations with the support of the Turkish
army attacked Armenian-populated Syrian town of Kessab on March 21. A
great number of people left the town abandoning their houses and
property.

Analysts claim that the activities in Kessab again made us face the
Turkey’s policy. According to them the attack on the
Armenian-populated town shows that the attack is not in the context of
Turkish-Syrian relations but an accentuated anti-Armenian step.

Turkey is trying to clean the region from Armenians and solves two
issues ` strikes Assad and the local Armenian community.
Historian Suren Sargsyan said the events in Kessab are painful but
presenting them as genocidal episode means to devaluate the Genocide.
`My opinion is that what happens in Kessab is not genocide, to
consider it so, will mean to indirectly devaluate the memory of the
1.5 million innocent victims. Of course it is a tragedy to lose house,
property but one thing is material loss and the other is human loss,’
Sargsyan said.
Speaking about the visit of the group of Armenian MPs to Syria, the
historian noted that he did not get the purpose of the visit.

`Our MPs went there and stressed the support to Syria’s President
Bashar Al-Assad putting in danger not only the Syrian Armenians but
the whole Diaspora Armenians. In such cases Armenians should preserve
neutrality,’ he said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
