ZHOGHOVURD: ARMENIA ECONOMY FACES NEW CRISIS

April 12, 2014

YEREVAN. – The collection ofArmenia’s state budget has become a serious
problem, and this means that the country’s economy faces a new crisis,
Zhoghovurd daily reported.

“According to the NSS [Armenian National Statistical Service] data, the
state budget revenues have increased by 2.3 percent in January-February
2014, as compared to the same period last year. But when we analyze the
sources of the state budget revenue, a disturbing picture comes about.

“The taxes and fees make up 96.2 percent of the Armenian state budget,
and the taxes and fees were collected 0.1 percent less, as compared
to the previous year.

“The point is that the 2014 state budget is 100 billion drams [approx.

$242,210,825] more, as compared to 2013, and this means that 9 percent
more money had to be collected within the two months of this year
than the year past. In the meantime, the collection of taxes and
duties has dropped.

“But that’s not all; the profit tax, excise tax, and customs duties
likewise were collected less this year,” Zhoghovurd wrote.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
